I’ve had a few pairs of steel toed boots before, and figured some discomfort was part of the deal. Not so! I also have some of the best made and most comfortable boots on the planet, costing 3-4 times what these run. These are close, for far less money, and oh yeah, they’ll keep your feet safe if you run a chainsaw into them.

I bought these for my husband to replace a very similar Chippewa boot from about 15 years ago. I wanted to post a photo of the old pair, but he had already thrown them out. They were still in very good shape except for the seam on the toe cap had started to split. These new ones don't have a seam there, so I expect he will get at least another 15 years out of these. The new ones have a lug sole while the old ones had a smooth sole, so that was a welcome improvement as well. Just the fact that they lasted so long, and fit so well, left us no choice but to buy the same boot again. They fit him perfectly with little break in time necessary. As long as they keep making them we will keep buying them. And hey, Made in USA is a real bonus!!!

Look and feel fantastic

Bulletproof and comfortable. Great boots. I’m picky, and get blisters easily, but these have been fantastic. I wear them for either working on trees or doing heavier work on my house (just resided one side of it and spent about three days on my garage roof) where I want lots of foot protection and grip. Nails would not go through soles, not that I tried to make them. And surprisingly comfortable and flexible/nimble. Easy to walk in and don’t feel like you’re wearing ski boots. Can drive my small manual transmission car without having to put on smaller shoes. I bought size 10 and usually wear a 10.5, and it was the right call. The leather on these eases up nicely.

I bought two pairs in medium width, one a half-size larger, with the thought of returning the one that did not fit. The smaller of the two was ok in length, but was still too wide for me at the heel, with the result being my heel sliding up and down in the boot, even with heavy socks. Not good. Had to return both pairs. A shame. They're nice boots, even though mine were Chinese-made (!).

I usually am a 'D' regular width in shoes and boots but these were rather on the tight side at the foot end and too loose in the heel, length seemed fine even with thick socks. But I am slender at 6' so was going to try the wide/E but assumed too much heel there too/maybe all cowboy boots are too.

Won’t be purchasing again, the soles came apart from the boots less than a year after purchasing them.

These were perfectly comfortable out of the box. I have been wearing them for 2 weeks straight with no issues. I wear an 11 and 10.5 fit perfectly.

I wanted to like this pair of boots, however the tongue is not designed to fit the contour of the anterior of my ankle, causing the stiff leather between ankle and shoelace knot to fold. Quite uncomfortable. This may sort itself out over time and I do like the rest of the fit and the build quality. However, there are so many other good shoes, at lower prices, from which to choose, that I guess I'll vote no on this pair.

Well made boots, very sturdy. Not much arch support, but not an issue for me, as I have orthotic insole I place in all my shoes. It has taken a couple days to get broke in, but overall very comfortable. I think these shoes are well worth the money.

i appreciate zappo's support as I wandered through, first sizing (these run big) and then color and leather quality. OUTSTANDING SERVICE!!

Aside from the price the only thing I hate about these boots is the break-in. These things kill your feet for the first week or so. Once they are broke-in, they are the best boots you can buy.

Normally wear 11. Ordered 10.5 per reviews and that was way too large. Exchanged for 10 and that fit well. However, the size 10 pair squeaked so I returned them. I really liked the look and feel but squeaky boots would drive me crazy

I'm a fan of these boots so far, but I've only been wearing them for about two weeks at this point. Like most other reviewers, I suggest getting a half size smaller (I'm normally a 12 and an 11.5 fits me perfectly). There is a breaking-in period and I had a little heel friction in the first couple days. Lacing tightly and up to the highest ring helped eliminate this. It's also important to note that the insole is not "cushiony" like typical shoes/boots, but I wouldn't describe it as uncomfortable. FWIW, I'm not sure there would be room to add a 3rd party insole. Other than that these are comfortable and I'm able to wear them more and more each day. I anticipate these shortly settling in as my everyday boot.

Excellent work boots. Worth every penny. Takes a little getting used to since they are heavy, but that’s to be expected since they are built like tanks.

Great looking boots. Toe box area has ample wiggle room for the toes. The only thing holding this pair of boots from getting a five star is the tanning color in the inside lining bleeds quite significantly and messed up a couple my socks. Other than that, very stylish and cool looking!

Looks great, solidly built. I’ve only had them for a week but they are already breaking in well. When people say they run big they mean it. I generally wear a size 12.5-13 but in these boots a size 12 is still a bit loose. Looking forward to looking my term ownership of these.

I read that these were considered narrower than normal so I got the wide and honestly I feel the narrow would have fit abosulutely perfect, still even with the wides I can throw on thicker socks and they fit comfortable and they will give room for foot inserts once I wear these out so its kind of win win :) I work traffic control and on my feet anywhere from 6-15 hours a day and I have to say I love these boots! And as always fast shipment with Zappos and great customer service!

Great boot. felt about 1/2 size large.Called zappos the day i got them and they sent the 1/2 size down. They arrived the next day before I could get to the post office with the returns.I was given a choice of return shippers,UPS or USPS. Got an Email asking if I was pleased and requested a review.I figured why not. Even though I have never done a review before. Clicked on whatever it said to do to review the boots and there are my new boots and the price was $15.05 cheaper than I paid-WOW.Called customer service and without any wrangling at all they refunded $16.00.Damn Sam! I'm a happy camper with some new Chippewa's

Chippewa Apache Lace Up I had been searching for a while for a plain all leather boot. I did not want fancy lining or insulation. I discovered the Chippewa Apache, researched it and noted that they were made in the USA which made the purchase even easier. Ordering from Zappos.com was easy. Shipping quick. Packaging was great. In total, a great online retail experience and I was updated regularly on the status and transit of my order. These boots are exactly as described. They are build very well and as comparable to some of my military combat boots. There all leather without any form of lining on the interior of the boot. The Vibram sole was my biggest concern as most work boots today have a cushioning sole. This Vibram sole of the Chippewa Apache Lace Up is fairly hard rubber with little give. I expected that I would become easily fatigued walking and standing on hard concrete all day. Really not the case. I think the quality of the shoe build and how well the arch support conforms to my feet help prevent premature fatigue. These really conform to my feet. I’ve been wearing these shoes for nearly 4 weeks daily now. They broke in incredibly easy for me. Sizing was a bit on the small side. I normally wear a 9. Since Zappos offers free returns I purchased and 9 and 8 ½ to try both. The 8 ½ fit best so I returned the 9 which was super easy. They are one of the most comfortable boots I have owned. Literally they’re a joy to don and lace every morning. I’m considering purchasing a second pair to keep as spare and to be able to rotate daily. The price of these shoes in my opinion were high for work boots but the comfort and build quality hopely will outlast any of competitors boot. Lastly, as I logged in to write this review I see the same boot which I paid $205 for priced at $189.95. I guess I should have waited a bit longer before purchase and save a couple of bucks.

I love these boots. I walk about 4-6 miles every day at work. 80% concrete and 20% grass and other surfaces. They’re breaking in perfectly and will definitely purchase Chippewa boots again. Also Zappos sent the wrong size on the initial order but their totally great customer service department took care of the issue instantly.

I've had them 5 months now and I've worn them almost every work day during that period. The first two weeks were really bad. Then they were "broken" in. For a normal day in the office they aren't that bad but if you're on your feet all day, they really hurt my feet. They'll probably last forever because they are so unforgiving.
