This is the boot, man. I took the boots out for the first time on a day hike for about 3 miles and broke them in that fast. A must have for rocky areas. I'm 6'1 - 175 lbs and thought they could be too much boot for me. I was wrong! They feel and look awesome.

Had these now for two months. Great boots right out of the box. These are super comfortable. My previous boots were a very similar pair of REI Raichles (that I've put over 900 miles on). These are a great fit from day one. True to size and width. Good looking, solid boot with great finishes, tight seams, and attention to detail. Worth the extra money to get a boot that will last as long as this one will.

I love my Zamberlan Vioz boots. Right away I noticed the firm grip the boots had on my heels. No slippage whatsoever. Also the shoes support my heels since I\'ve had plantar fashiitis. On a backpack I was wearing Asolos with no shank. I had no idea why my feet felt bruised, throbbing, like a headache after two ten mile days. By the fifth day I could not stand or walk. I crawled on all fours in the backcountry. I was able to do a hike after two months with my feet up trying to heal stress fractures. I suffered no pain after about an hour\'s hike. I used the Zamberlans while in the house and outside too doing chores and just the usual walking. Now that I\'m back at work, I have to wear shoes with shanks and built up heels. These shoes have a rocker sole so the heels are supported. I\'m on my feet all day as a teacher so the boots are working out very well. They also are beautiful with the brown leather and matching laces and beautiful hardware hooks and eyelets. I really love my Zamberlans; I even ordered the care kit so my Vioz will be beautiful forever. And my husband laughs at me. I actually spent most of my two months with my feet up with the boots on. I wasn\'t supposed to put any pressure on them at all.

After 10 years of light use my Salomon boots fell apart. I tried on every pair of boots I could lay my hands on; Lowa, Merrell, Vasque, Marmot etc. Zamberlans were by far the most comfortable, best made and best looking, size 10.5 is dead-on! I bought two pairs, the Vioz GT and 310 Skill GT. They were both so excellent I couldn't choose between them. Zappos service (and patience with my many returns) was outstanding.

These boots were the most comfortable right out of the box than any other pair I tried on. I have an average sized foot. I wear a 9 in running shoes and an 8.5-9 in anything with an open toe. I have a taller arch and these provided great comfort and support. They are a fantastic traditional backpacking boot. That said, I returned them for the updated version, the Zamberlan Vioz GT. The tongue padding is thicker and comes up higher in the Vioz GT, which I liked. I also like that the style of the Vioz was a little more updated than the Skill. Both fit the same and both were equally comfortable right away. I took these first on an Alaskan trek and they performed great in the rain; my feet were dry and warm. I highly recommend this boot, the Vioz, and the Zamberlan brand. The boots are very well made.

These are well worth the investment; the most functional and well fitting hiking shoe that I have ever owned. I have taken them out on two long hot and rocky hikes and I especially appreciate the little ledge on the heel (see side view), which has kept me from tumbling on three occasions already. If you do one of those front slide actions on loose rock or gravel, the heel catches you. Also my feet stayed dry and cozy with river rock hopping. They rubbed a little around the ankle bones on the first time out but this disappeared with wear. As always Zappos delights me; they upgraded my shipping to overnight and my ruby slippers were on the front porch the next day.

I'm not so optimistic about these shoes because of their weak soles. One shoe began creaking after a month of wearing. Soles on both of the shoes were worn out after three months of wearing. It happened in a city. I'm absolutely not sure that these shoes can bear outdoor walk.

These boots were unusually comfortable from day one. Cannot yet judge long-term performance. I have put about 45 miles on them so far in fairly rocky Northern New England terrain, including Mt. Washington, King Ravine, Baxter Peak, and Mt. Moriah. They have excellent grip and good support. (I can't comment on the insoles. I use Superfeet orange inserts. I do not bother to try the stock insoles first any more.) I noticed that they scuffed up very quickly, but I have previously worn nubuck-type boots, which don't show rock abrasion so readily. I had a hard time choosing among these boots, the Asolo TPS 520, and the Scarpa Kailash GTX. All 3 had a very nice fit, although the Scarpa seemed especially snug without being tight. I eventually chose the Zamberlan Skill GT on the basis of (1) likely durability (far fewer sewn seams than the Scarpa, and even the Asolo has a 2-piece tongue) and (2) what seemed like better cushioning in the sole, less bottom-of-the-foot fatigue.

Love the Civettas. Very solid, very comfortable. Took them out of the box and on a 13-mile trip and they were terrific - one little heel blister, but I don\'t think that was their fault. I like the quality and expect to be wearing them for many years to come.

Best Hiking boots. Right out of the box. These shoes are great in all conditions. I use them to hike through RMNP and al the various terrain. These are good enough to take the dog on a walk right out of the box. The traction and stability on these are great and it's almost like they are pushing you along. Extremely comfortable, versatile and durable boot. These boots breathe quality and you can tell as soon as you put them on. Best boots I own.

Very Pleased!I just bought my second pair. My first are about to turn nine years old. I wear these boots a lot. Three months ago I wore them down and up the Grand Canyon in one day. Yes, the leather is separating from the rubber but after nine years something has to give. The vibram soles still have life in them. I wore them for hiking and doing construction work. The large toe box makes this an excellent fitting boot.

These are great shoes, but beware that they run one-half US size small. I normally wear an 11.5 D and I need a 12 in this shoe. Zappos was really good to me and took back the too-small pair in exchange for the next size up. I wrote the manufacturer and they confirmed this to be the case due to several factors. Otherwise, I love these boots.

I strongly prefer the Zamberlan Vioz GT model over this one. The tongue padding is thicker and comes up higher in the Vioz GT. Although the Vioz GT is higher on the ankle than the Skill GT, it is much more comfortable around the ankle. I love the Vioz.

Great Old School Look - Finding a good completely black leather boot is getting difficult. This is my first pair of Zamberlan's. Good look and fit, but a bit pricey.

Great comfort and support right out of the box. I don't usually like hikers this tall, but the ankle area is well padded and very comfortable. For those of you who want to continue to be able to hike, but have bad feet (stress fractures, arthritis, tendonitis, etc,), please try these. The cushioning and support are excellent, and the rocker sole helps avoid any forefoot or midfoot flexion, as does the shank. If you have bad feet, don't try any light hikers or tennis shoes for your hikes, keep your feet healthy and happy with these.

These boots ROCK! They are one of the best pairs of boots I've ever owned. I've owned Reichel's in the past and thought I could never find better. These changed my mind. They are true to size and break in quickly. I highly recommend them!

Great Old School Boot - I've got a wide foot and problems with my big toe, making it very difficult to find quality hiking boots that fit. These boots are expensive, but they are hand crafted in Italy and you can feel the quality the minute you put them on. I tried Vasque and Asolo, but they hurt my feet and cut into my ankles. These boots feel great. Make no mistake, however, these boots are old school. You will have to break them in. I've had them about two months and I've broken them in, starting with short hikes and gradually working up to longer ones. The traditional Norwegian welt construction of the soles is high quality. I've had these out in the rain and the snow, and they kept my feet dry. They are holding up very well, and I expect to get years of wear out of them. I like the old school look, too. This is a top quality boot. They are not cheap, but you get what you pay for.

These are the boots...They were for me anyway... After all everyone's foot is different. I'd worn Vasque Sundowners for many years and I would consider these Zamberlans to be a step up from there. These boots are fantastic from the time you put them on. You have my word.

Tough!Overall this seemed like a very well built boot. The stitching and materials felt very solid. My only gripe is with the insole and it probably has more to do with my flat feet than the boot itself. The right boot hurt the outside of my foot - so much so that I could not wear these boots for more than 30 minutes. Again, I am not sure if the boot is truly at fault for this or not. The boot did feel pretty narrow, so that may have had something to do with the pain. Zappos was awesome with the return (as usual) and I went with the Asolo Fugitive.

About Zamberlan

Zamberlan
Made in Italy since 1929

Guiseppe Zamberlan (also known as “Bepi” for short), is the mastermind behind Zamberlan footwear. He began his career repairing shoes, which in turn developed into a career of making finely crafted boots. His passion for the trekking and the outdoors, led him to search for better materials and more efficient construction methods of boot making to satisfy his need for ‘safer and easier’ movement throughout the mountains.

Zamberlan boots are quality tested for durability and performance. The Zamberlan company, which is situated at the foot of the Piccole Dolomiti, is an ideal testing ground for new products and ideas. It is within these mountains that new ideas for top quality boots are created and cultivated.

So after nearly 80 years of boot manufacturing, the Zamberlan Company is still a family run business, with the third generation actively taking part in all stages of design and production. At Zamberlan, they remain dedicated to their hand made boots and believe they will carry you well throughout your journey.
