Vasque Reviews
I've been happy with Vasque in the past as far as arch support - these are a big disappointment and being returned.
Nice shoe! I broke my leg last year and I am having some nerve issues. Purchased this shoe because of its comfort and support. The sole is not smooth (common in hiking shoes) and that is bothering my feet when I walk more than 15-20 minutes, other than that it is more comfortable than most I have tried. Still I would recommend this shoe to anyone without nerve trouble.
Love the shoe. I was looking for something with a bit of flair, but that was still comfortable and wearable with many of my clothes. This fits the bill, and fits my Vasque-shaped feet nicely.
A very comfortable boot with great forefoot adjustment. I had surgery on my foot (Hallux Rigidus) with a plate installed over my big toe joint, since then my foot does not flex the same. This boot is one of the many I tried that flexes well enough and has support. I've backpacked with it with a 40 lb. pack and had no issues.
I took them out for a desert hike and they held up like a charm. They fit great. The water proofing helped during the stream crossings. The rigid sole helps with traction and prevents sliding. The high ankle support worked out well. They are worth every penny and then some.
I am a huge Keen fan but really liked the look of these, what a great change. These shoes are the best hiking I have had yet. I still enjoy Keen and nothing wrong with them but these Vasque Juxt are highly comfortable. I have been running for 20 years, flat feet, 20+ years of extreme back packing, and these shoes make me like I have never done any of that. I am going to buy the other color in this version, great hiking/general purpose shoe and cheaper than most. Great bang for the buck!
I bought a pair of the Vasque Bitterroot boots about a month before a 20 mile backpacking trip. I walked several 5+ mile hikes to break them in with no problems. These boots were worth every penny on the hike - no blisters and my feet were completely dry after 5 hours of hiking in a constant rain. I can wear them all day in complete comfort.
I put 80 miles of training and a 509 mile through hike of the Colorado Trail on a single pair of these last year and they still have some miles left in them. Great durability, zero break in, and very comfortable for my hard to fit feet. I have no problem with the tongue stitching mentioned in a previous review and I thought that the sole grip was fantastic. Not a single slip in almost 600 miles.
Reasonably stout for a light hiker. Length is fine but a bit narrow in the toe. Adequate but not great grip on loose rocks. This is my second pair. It looks identical to the first but the fit is a little different. The old pair wore out on the soles before showing any wear at all on the uppers. Rubber toes nice in wet grass.
Unfortunately, user error here, I picked up a size too small for my overly large bread pan feet. The boot is handsome, nice curves, nice lines, nice colors. Love the steel lace eyelets up top, nice finish. Pricey for a Made in China boot though. I have not taken them out for the test run into the mountains here in Lake Placid yet. My feet are so wide and the E-wide is a must. My bad for picking up a Medium and only size (14) instead of size (15). Imbecile, me that is. :) Looks better made that my previous Keen's which suck.
Really a great shoe...just doesn't work for me. I have all sorts of foot problems. I need a lower heel than footbed, so for normal feet it would be a great shoe.
Amazing, comfortable, totally loved them. Wore this shoes for my trekking trip. AWESOME! Wore them everyday during my trip, not a single problem, easy to break in! Wore them for the first time while walking around the city! just the best shoes ever! I never write reviews, but this time seriously, this shoe deserved it!
I purchased my boots 2.5 yrs ago and found the fit and comfort to be what I expected from a premium priced boot. In the second season hiking Glacier NP the right sole began separating so I used a shoe glue to reattach the sole with reasonable success. This Spring hiking in the South West US I noticed that there are deep cracks on both boots below the ball of the foot. I might still purchase another pair as I liked the fit and comfort but after many years of hiking/backpacking, this is the first pair of boots with Vibrum soles that I feel have worn prematurely.
I have been quite pleased with these shoes so far. I have used them for errands, wearing around the house or town and for walking and hiking. I have not done any backpacking with them yet, but I don't think that would be a problem and I will in the future. The fit is great and quality is excellent. Very sturdy with a good balance between a rigid and flexible sole. I was originally planning on buying the Vasque Juxt shoes but they were not as comfortable as these and probably wouldn't last as long. The only possible negative is they seem pretty warm to me, but it's not excessive given the style. I think they might be a bit hot here in the summer (but I guess almost anything would be). Regarding the sizing, it seems like the other reviewers here had no issues, but I found the Mantras to be significantly larger than my other shoes. I usually wear a 10 or 9.5 and rarely a 9, but I found the 8.5 to work best for these and I tried on 3 different sizes. Not sure why. I had a pair of Vasque Clarion boots a few years ago and they were at least a 9. I do have fairly low-volume feet, so maybe that is part of it. I would say to order down a half size, but since nobody else has said it, it might not be an issue for most people.
The boots look good in pictures. After wearing only a few minutes they were rubbing my little toe on both sides. I have a narrow foot, but these boots seemed very narrow. Could be that the toe was also somewhat elongated, almost clown shoe-ish. I did not care for the style when they arrived, I do not care for pointed toes on my boots. The laces were very adequate for me. The pull strap on the back was small, but usable for me. Due to the shortcomings I am returning the boots.
Had same/ similar boots years ago, not sure if they were Vasque. Now bought size 8M though I need a wide shoe/ boot due to arthritis & bunions. Wide was not available until the day after I bought the 8M! That size proved to be much too large in length & width. Now have the 7-1/2 Wide (8 being returned) , which is okay, I think a 7 Wide would be too short. Experimenting with various innersoles to accommodate different weights of socks, depending on weather. I put in an extra innersole with the ones which came with the boots & are removable; seems okay with medium weights socks. Put on a heavier pair of wool socks, these are fine with the original innersole. I think you'd be okay with your usual size/width boot and then experiment with innersoles. The heel is a bit loose but I don't think it is enough to give me a blister. These are heavy duty hikers, not lightweight and will most likely need a break-in period which was the case with my 30 year old ones. After breaking in those were very comfortable. Although the leather is heavy, they are not too stiff. The sole is definitely thick and heavy, most likely great for traction and rough surfaces like trails/ rocks. And these are waterproof with Gore-Tex. Not cheap but if these last as long as the originals I may never need another pair!
Bought this shoe to take to Europe on a walking holiday. It looked good and would be equally at home on the aircraft or out and about. Had issues with getting comfortable in these shoes but thought they would break in. Boy was I wrong. After changing insoles to see if I could get a better result it has only marginally helped. After walking for a month in Europe they are still giving no support and are making the last two hours of each day painful. They still look good though but that is it. I would never purchase another set and I will go back to Merells which are light years better.
The shoe is very solid and comfortable. I think it will actually take a good long time to break them in fully - they still feel stiff after 3 weeks (but comfortable). The area around the toe is very roomy making me think they were designed for thicker socks than I wear. Generally love them.
These were rated high on the backpacker magazine site, and I would love to keep them. The sole cushioning is fantastic, and they fit well (with hiking socks, after I went up a half size). Unfortunately, I have arthritis below my big toes and after walking around the house for an hour the tops of my feet were hurting. I'll have to look for something with a wider toe-box. Except for this one issue, I think I could have stayed on my feet all day, and rated them 5 stars.
I've been wearing these hiking shoes for over twenty years. They do require breaking in. I don't backpack anymore but I still use these boots for all day hikes. I recommend them for serious hikers.
I owed two pair of Clarion GTX. The first pair was recommended by a local orthotics specialist due to the width of my feet and planned use. These were the most comfortable hiking/backpacking boots I had ever owned. I wore them for years and finally the leather cracked and broker through and the inside of the soles disintegrated. I bought another pair. Same fit and comfort but within three years the insides of the soles disintegrated. I really like the boots but don't feel they are as durable as they should be.
