About Sperry

Paul Sperry, founder of Sperry, was an inventor, a sailor, and an intrepid explorer with a passion for adventure.  In 1935 he was faced with a real-life problem: how to maintain traction on a slippery boat deck. No solution existed at that time.

After numerous attempts to invent a nonslip boat shoe, Paul found his inspiration from his best friend—his dog, Prince. Noticing how he didn’t slip on ice, he turned Prince’s paw over to find hundreds of small cracks and lines going in all directions. These became the inspiration behind his inventive nonslip razor cut Wave-Siping™ outsole and the world’s first performance boat shoe.  In that moment of inspiration, he not only created an icon, he launched a brand: the perfect union of an inventive idea, a man, his passion, and the allure of the sea.

Sperry's boat shoes became internationally known for their comfort and long-lasting wear. Styles like the men’s Authentic Original and Billfish, and the women’s Angelfish boat shoe are all water resistant and durable with a tru-moc construction, a comfortable 360° lacing system and, of course, the razor cut Wave-Siping™ non- slip technology. Whether you are sailing, working on the dock, or just enjoying a beach vacation, these boat shoes are sure to look and feel good.

Sperry’s standout Gold Cup Collection features premium Italian leather, 18k gold-plated eyelets, and soft lambskin lining. This luxurious combination makes these boat shoes ideal for everything from relaxed walks around town to a refined evening out with family and friends.

With a loyal consumer base, Sperry has moved beyond boat shoes, creating nautically inspired footwear like waterproof rain boots and leather booties that are ideal for both the city and sailing. Sperry’s  duck-inspired rubber shell boots , sandals, espadrilles, sneakers, oxfords,  and slippers all share not only the timeless style and comfort that Sperry is known for, but also the same non-slip technology that will always keep you safe on slippery surfaces.

What are shoes without socks? Sperry has answered that question by creating incredibly comfortable socks featuring fabric blends and eye-catching patterns that are sure to match your nautical tastes. Sperry makes sure they have a sock to suit your needs with styles ranging from boot socks to crew lengths to the no-see-um skimmers that fit perfectly with your boat shoes.

Sperry has also evolved into clothing and now creates seasonal favorites like swimsuits, bikinis, boardshorts, and swim cover-ups to meet every water lovers’ needs!

Sperry started as the original boat shoe manufacturer and has grown into one of the greatest, most authentic lifestyle brands; a rare brand that spans fashion and function without compromise.

One year later, the shoe is still going strong. Do go one half size smaller, however, if you want to wear it without socks.

I purchased these after owning some Billfish Ultralite 3-Eye for a few years. I am still quite happy with the Ultralights but won't buy these Gamefish again. I think these look better and I believe the look will last, since the "color stripe" on the outsole from the Ultralights is no longer there. That stripe gets scraped off over time. My biggest gripe with these is that they are much less comfortable than the Ultralights. In particular the tongue is not padded like the Ultralights and as a result, the tops of my feet hurt by the end of the day. I've tried tieing them more loosely than I prefer to compensate, but then I end up re-tieing through the day, which is annoying. I also don't like the foam footbed on these because when I am putting them on my sock (or occasionally bare foot) sticks on the way in. The Ultralights have a nice leather cover on the footbed that makes them easier to put on. If the Ultralights are still available when you're considering these, be sure to look at them instead. I've had these for a few months and would exchange them if I could...

I ordered this shoe but I returned it after I wore it for a day. Way to small from the same shoe I owned in the past. Larger size was not available at the time.

I wore these fresh out of the box and they were super comfy!! I have athletic calves and my ankles aren't super feminine and I was worried these would look bulky but they sit lower on the ankle than other Sperry styles. They are very feminine and I love them. I ordered a 7.5 which is my normal size and they fit perfectly. I really love these shoes.

These shoes are exactly what boat shoes should be. They feel comfortable and relaxed, and can be worn with khakis, shorts, or jeans. They can be worn sockles, with no-shows or with dress socks, and look great with all. Lots of belts complement them, although I haven't found a completely matching belt. The color is perfect. These shoes are excellent.
