About Sperry

Paul Sperry, founder of Sperry, was an inventor, a sailor, and an intrepid explorer with a passion for adventure.  In 1935 he was faced with a real-life problem: how to maintain traction on a slippery boat deck. No solution existed at that time.

After numerous attempts to invent a nonslip boat shoe, Paul found his inspiration from his best friend—his dog, Prince. Noticing how he didn’t slip on ice, he turned Prince’s paw over to find hundreds of small cracks and lines going in all directions. These became the inspiration behind his inventive nonslip razor cut Wave-Siping™ outsole and the world’s first performance boat shoe.  In that moment of inspiration, he not only created an icon, he launched a brand: the perfect union of an inventive idea, a man, his passion, and the allure of the sea.

Sperry's boat shoes became internationally known for their comfort and long-lasting wear. Styles like the men’s Authentic Original and Billfish, and the women’s Angelfish boat shoe are all water resistant and durable with a tru-moc construction, a comfortable 360° lacing system and, of course, the razor cut Wave-Siping™ non- slip technology. Whether you are sailing, working on the dock, or just enjoying a beach vacation, these boat shoes are sure to look and feel good.

Sperry’s standout Gold Cup Collection features premium Italian leather, 18k gold-plated eyelets, and soft lambskin lining. This luxurious combination makes these boat shoes ideal for everything from relaxed walks around town to a refined evening out with family and friends.

With a loyal consumer base, Sperry has moved beyond boat shoes, creating nautically inspired footwear like waterproof rain boots and leather booties that are ideal for both the city and sailing. Sperry’s  duck-inspired rubber shell boots , sandals, espadrilles, sneakers, oxfords,  and slippers all share not only the timeless style and comfort that Sperry is known for, but also the same non-slip technology that will always keep you safe on slippery surfaces.

What are shoes without socks? Sperry has answered that question by creating incredibly comfortable socks featuring fabric blends and eye-catching patterns that are sure to match your nautical tastes. Sperry makes sure they have a sock to suit your needs with styles ranging from boot socks to crew lengths to the no-see-um skimmers that fit perfectly with your boat shoes.

Sperry has also evolved into clothing and now creates seasonal favorites like swimsuits, bikinis, boardshorts, and swim cover-ups to meet every water lovers’ needs!

Sperry started as the original boat shoe manufacturer and has grown into one of the greatest, most authentic lifestyle brands; a rare brand that spans fashion and function without compromise.

Best shoe ever! I love shoes, booties, boots and have too many (if there is such a thing) but I have never ever slipped into a pair that felt like this. Comfort at first sight (wear). It's like butter meets cloud meets heaven. I bought these for a trip to Europe were there will be lots walking, standing, sitting and styling. Do yourself a favor and get a pair.

Toe box is too pinced and narrow for comfort. The leather is more rigid than the suede ones my husband wears in fall. Bought this for him for summer wear. Going back.

These felt great right out of the box! If they feel a little tight, give them a chance, they will stretch.

These are nice shoes. I bought the wide width, but I must have extra wide feet because these were still tight around my toe bones. If you have wide feet, I'd buy the men's version. They were stiff, but are now breaking in and becoming bearable to wear. If you have slim feet, these will fit you well.

I just purchased my first pair of Sperrys in metallic silver and I must say I am disappointed. The shoes are very comfortable. They do feel a little bigger than the actual size ordered, but when I tightened the laces, they felt a bit more snug. The width still feels a little wider than marked even when I tightened the laces. These were minor issues that I could overlook and even work with. However, I'm having a hard time accepting the silver finish of the shoes. There are huge spots all over the shoes that seem to have missed the shiny, silver finishing process. The spots are a dull, worn out finish. I don't know if I received a damaged pair or if this "aged" look is intentional. I thought the entire shoe would be a shiny, metallic silver. I don't want my leather shoes to look aged and worn in before I've even worn them! I still have them in the box and am on the fence as to whether or not to return them because they are so pretty and comfortable. I just can't get past the dull spots on the shoes...

These were comfortable from the first time I put them on. I would have liked the color a shade darker. The shoes were well made in the Dominican Republic.

These are my all time favorite Top-Siders. I recently ordered my second pair because I had really worn out the sole on the originals and it was less expensive than having them re-soled. The original leather is in great condition and I may have them re-soled anyway because they are so comfortable. They are comfortable, stylish, and very well constructed. Highly recommended.

Nice casual shoe. Moderate arch support but still quite comfortable. I bought a man's shoe for me because the women's Sperry are too narrow. It has worked out very well.

VERY comfy for a day of work....either at the office or doing retail. They go with everything, and my favorite Sperry attribute - NO SOCKS NEEDED!! Minimal arch support, so my feet will protest if I wear them too many days in a row, but that's easy enough to avoid. The only reasons I'm not giving five stars is the lack of arch support, the sole area could be softer (LOVE the memory foam in the newer styles!!), and the bottom of the exterior soles don't have a lot of texture to prevent slipping.
