Paul Sperry, founder of Sperry, was an inventor, a sailor, and an intrepid explorer with a passion for adventure. In 1935 he was faced with a real-life problem: how to maintain traction on a slippery boat deck. No solution existed at that time.
After numerous attempts to invent a nonslip boat shoe, Paul found his inspiration from his best friend—his dog, Prince. Noticing how he didn’t slip on ice, he turned Prince’s paw over to find hundreds of small cracks and lines going in all directions. These became the inspiration behind his inventive nonslip razor cut Wave-Siping™ outsole and the world’s first performance boat shoe. In that moment of inspiration, he not only created an icon, he launched a brand: the perfect union of an inventive idea, a man, his passion, and the allure of the sea.
Sperry's boat shoes became internationally known for their comfort and long-lasting wear. Styles like the men’s Authentic Original and Billfish, and the women’s Angelfish boat shoe are all water resistant and durable with a tru-moc construction, a comfortable 360° lacing system and, of course, the razor cut Wave-Siping™ non- slip technology. Whether you are sailing, working on the dock, or just enjoying a beach vacation, these boat shoes are sure to look and feel good.
Sperry’s standout Gold Cup Collection features premium Italian leather, 18k gold-plated eyelets, and soft lambskin lining. This luxurious combination makes these boat shoes ideal for everything from relaxed walks around town to a refined evening out with family and friends.
With a loyal consumer base, Sperry has moved beyond boat shoes, creating nautically inspired footwear like waterproof rain boots and leather booties that are ideal for both the city and sailing. Sperry’s duck-inspired rubber shell boots , sandals, espadrilles, sneakers, oxfords, and slippers all share not only the timeless style and comfort that Sperry is known for, but also the same non-slip technology that will always keep you safe on slippery surfaces.
What are shoes without socks? Sperry has answered that question by creating incredibly comfortable socks featuring fabric blends and eye-catching patterns that are sure to match your nautical tastes. Sperry makes sure they have a sock to suit your needs with styles ranging from boot socks to crew lengths to the no-see-um skimmers that fit perfectly with your boat shoes.
Sperry started as the original boat shoe manufacturer and has grown into one of the greatest, most authentic lifestyle brands; a rare brand that spans fashion and function without compromise.
Comfortable and cute! There is elastic under the tongue which annoyed me a tiny bit at first but now I can't feel it anymore. Fabric gets dirty easily on the white ones. Overall I love them and receive a lot of compliments!
These are very comfortable soft leather. Gold color is subtle, I love wearing them with my white jeans! What don't these go with?
These are easy to slip on and off for the summer. although comfortable, they needed extra support so I inserted arch supports under the Sperry supports and bought a half size up.
I purchased these shoes for my son for a birthday gift in January, he loved them, but by the end of February one shoe was coming apart. I took them to a shoe repair, they told my Zappos is great about replacing and to call first. It was a wonderful experience, they did not even make me send the damaged shoe back and sent a new pair within two days of my call. We were all very pleased and are hoping that this pair lasts a lot longer!
I love these shoes! I am normally a size 12 or 11.5 but bought an 11 and they fit perfect! Very comfortable and cute!
Love these shoes! I get compliments on them every time I wear them. It is always a pleasure doing business with Zappos!
These look great and are true to size. I was a little nervous that the buckle strap was too short as I needed to use the last hole and I could not imagine that my ankles could be fat as I am only 120 pounds and considered small boned. The straps were quite a worry at first but they loosened up during the first wearing.
Classic Sperry Authentic Originals, this color is very nice, quality leather feel, I also have the classic brown color as well from 2014 still looks great since I wear multiple Sperry all year round. Same quality feel for this pair nothing has changed, this is a lighter leather color and scratches will show but I'm sure they will wear nice, mine are still fairly new but holding up great, match with any outfit and look. I ordered the wide sizes for both to be comfortable (not that they're not comfortable) but to have extra room, although I don't have wide feet but I like to have the room and be comfy. Leather does stretch but I like the feel of the wide in this shoe.
I was really excited about these and took a chance despite some of the reviews. The left shoe looked like it had water damage drops on them. Maybe if both shoes had looked like that, then it would've looked intentional. But the right shoe was not splotchy at all. They also run a bit wide and so they gape when I walk. Sorry to have to return these because they could be so much fun!
Normally I always take a 7M in these Sperry Top-Sider sneakers. I have been buying the white one's with the plaid tongue for about 4 years now, but I can't get them anymore because they were discontinued. I decided on these because they looked pretty much like my old one's, with the exception of the leather tongue instead, and I loved the optional lace up feature as I do not wear the laces. When I got these, I immediately pulled the laces out and tried them on...and for some strange reason, they kept slipping of the backs of my ankles, which has never happened! At this point I was forced to put the laces in to keep the shoe from slipping of my feet, and I now found that w/the laces in, the tough leather tongue was now ramming into the front of my ankle/leg, so I can't wear these with laces comfortably either! I don't know what to do. I'm basically sitting here with a not inexpensive pair of shoes that hurt me.
