About Sperry

Paul Sperry, founder of Sperry, was an inventor, a sailor, and an intrepid explorer with a passion for adventure.  In 1935 he was faced with a real-life problem: how to maintain traction on a slippery boat deck. No solution existed at that time.

After numerous attempts to invent a nonslip boat shoe, Paul found his inspiration from his best friend—his dog, Prince. Noticing how he didn’t slip on ice, he turned Prince’s paw over to find hundreds of small cracks and lines going in all directions. These became the inspiration behind his inventive nonslip razor cut Wave-Siping™ outsole and the world’s first performance boat shoe.  In that moment of inspiration, he not only created an icon, he launched a brand: the perfect union of an inventive idea, a man, his passion, and the allure of the sea.

Sperry's boat shoes became internationally known for their comfort and long-lasting wear. Styles like the men’s Authentic Original and Billfish, and the women’s Angelfish boat shoe are all water resistant and durable with a tru-moc construction, a comfortable 360° lacing system and, of course, the razor cut Wave-Siping™ non- slip technology. Whether you are sailing, working on the dock, or just enjoying a beach vacation, these boat shoes are sure to look and feel good.

Sperry’s standout Gold Cup Collection features premium Italian leather, 18k gold-plated eyelets, and soft lambskin lining. This luxurious combination makes these boat shoes ideal for everything from relaxed walks around town to a refined evening out with family and friends.

With a loyal consumer base, Sperry has moved beyond boat shoes, creating nautically inspired footwear like waterproof rain boots and leather booties that are ideal for both the city and sailing. Sperry’s  duck-inspired rubber shell boots , sandals, espadrilles, sneakers, oxfords,  and slippers all share not only the timeless style and comfort that Sperry is known for, but also the same non-slip technology that will always keep you safe on slippery surfaces.

What are shoes without socks? Sperry has answered that question by creating incredibly comfortable socks featuring fabric blends and eye-catching patterns that are sure to match your nautical tastes. Sperry makes sure they have a sock to suit your needs with styles ranging from boot socks to crew lengths to the no-see-um skimmers that fit perfectly with your boat shoes.

Sperry has also evolved into clothing and now creates seasonal favorites like swimsuits, bikinis, boardshorts, and swim cover-ups to meet every water lovers’ needs!

Sperry started as the original boat shoe manufacturer and has grown into one of the greatest, most authentic lifestyle brands; a rare brand that spans fashion and function without compromise.

I had high hopes for this shoe, but it was considerably shorter than my usual size - although shown as my usual size - and there was absolutely no arch support. The toes were tight and the heels were loose. I had to send them back.

I like the look of the shoe and it's great for narrow feet because it doesn't fall off like some other sperry shoes. However, the back hurts my heel quite a bit. I'm hoping I'll break it in and it won't be an issue anymore, but so far I can't wear them for very long without pain.

These are super cute, great with shorts and dresses. The fabric has a slight metallic sheen to it that does not show in the picture, and the heel is just low enough that you can wear them for long stretches without cramping your toes. The footbed is soft and squishy - typical Sperry comfort! I wore these during a long day of travel, through airports and toting luggage on hot pavement. They were great until that evening, when they started rubbing (probably from the heat), and I got a couple of blisters. (Full disclosure: I have narrow feet and sensitive skin, so getting blisters from any shoe is not unusual.) I wore them again a week later on the return trip, and had no problems. I love them. I just ordered myself a second pair!

I just started a retail job and needed some closed toe shoes to wear. A definite problem since all my summer shoes are sandals. I wanted something I could wear without socks, was an athletic-shoe style (it's we are moving boxes around and such), gave me relatively good support, and was comfy to wear for a day of walking and standing. I immediately thought of Sperry and bought these in black thinking it would match great with my black capris and yep - it's perfect!! Only reason I'm not giving five stars is that I think it could have a bit more arch support, and while it is very comfy, it's not as comfy as my big, cushy, padded, supportive, leather sneakers (the gold standard).

Original Sperry Topsiders with pointed toe pinched a nerve in my foot. Very painful. Thrilled with the Angelfish shorter front rounded toe. So comfortable!

Looked so cool, Got them months ago, worn them sailing for the first time this week, after they got wet, on my feet; they shrank and rubbed blisters on both my heels. Unbelievable for sailing shoes. I must have owned 10 pairs of Sperry's over the years, this has never happened. They are going back.

Super cute. Very comfortable. Good light summer color. I like that I can usually count on Sperry to be consistent with sizing. I will probably buy a second color, too.

This is my husband's second pair of these. When he first gets them, he says they feel to small in the width. It takes a while for him to stretch them but afterwards, he will wear them until they have holes in them.

Sperry Mako Shoes GREAT - Zappos Service BAD. ZAPPOS service - not so great anymore. I have been a ZAPPOS VIP customer for 10+ yrs. This purchase was horrible. I purchased these shoes for my husbands birthday 7 days in advance. No problem - right? Wrong!!! They didn't arrive until the day after his birthday. I kept checking the website and it kept saying "we're on it" or something stupid like that / after 2 days, 3 days, 4 days. I called customer service on day 4 and day 6 and definitely not the old ZAPPOS. I know they went to some new mgmt style where there's no management, but they left their customer service behind also. They said they should be there any day now cause they were shipped last Thursday PRIORITY (last Thursday was, at that point 6 days ago). They couldn't even tell me where the shoes were. Wow - I need a new shoe store.

These are beautiful. The thought that went into the design is fantastic. Even the packaging it arrives in is spectacular. The did feel a little narrow, but since this is my first pair of Sperrys, im not sure if that is par for the course. Either way, a phenomenal product.
