I do like the style of this shoe and they do look good with jeans. But I actually wish the heel was higher, especially since they made it with a platform. I have to put the gel liners in them to keep my foot from sliding around, which I do with a lot of shoes anyway.

Great '70s vibe! Beautiful expensive-looking leather and wood sandal. Note: WOOD! Other brands use rubber or something wrapped in leather or some other material. I normally wear a 9.5 and ordered a 9.5. Felt fine, but as I just bought the Frye 12 Engineer boots in 9, something told me to order the 9 for comparison. Well, I did (came the very next day! Thanks, Zappos!!!), and the 9 seemed to fit better. It was snugger (thought not tight) around my toes (and I knew this kind of sandal would loosen up over time, anyway) and felt less "heavy" on my feet, as they clung to my feet better when I walked, whereas the 9.5's had more of the "slap-back" thing going on. They seemed to "hang" on my feet as I walked. So I guess what I'm saying is that for me, anyway, these run a little large. But then again, I was one of the few people that said the boots I mentioned above ran large, whereas virtually everyone else said they fit true to size or small. Had someone given them to me in a 9.5 and I couldn't exchange them, or if this sandal were unavailable in 9, I would have kept and worn the 9.5's. Meaning to say they weren't SO large on me as to make the shoe unwearable. But I could see the front leather portion would be stretching out over time, so I'm glad I took the 9's. P.S. I'm checking both "felt a half size larger than marked" AND "Felt wider than marked," as I don't know which category led to the 9.5's feeling a tad loose on me.

Two months ago I purchased my first pair of Frye boots (Harness boot 12R in a beat up brown color). From the moment I put them on my feet, I was in love. Now that it’s getting warmer, I knew I had to put them on hold until fall. I have been searching for the perfect wedge that wasn’t too prissy, yet had a little height. I stumbled upon these after searching everywhere and when I received them, they were just what I was looking for. I love them because considering they are wood, they still feel comfortable and I love the sound wood soles make (strange I know). These shoes feel like a clog, yet are a bit more feminine. I’m really into the laid back bohemian look and these fit the bill. They look great with my distressed jeans or my flowy dresses. They are perfect because they have a little heel for a long lean look, yet they feel relaxed. Great purchase. I loved them so much that I want some more Frye boots or shoes. Now I’m dying for the Campus boot in either sunrise or turquoise. I’m hooked!

Additional Brand Information

The Frye Company was founded in 1863 by John A. Frye, a shoemaker from England. Frye is the oldest continuously operating shoe company in the United States. Frye products have a long and illustrious history. Frye boots were worn by soldiers for both sides of America’s Civil War, soldiers in the Spanish-America war, and for Teddy Roosevelt and his Rough Riders. Many New England families during the mid and late 1800’s wore Frye boots as they pioneered across the country to the West.

Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.

In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.

The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.
