If you have a high arch or instep, these boots are not for you. I ordered a 7, my usual size, but I could not slide my foot into the shoe. They are great boots, but not for everyone!!

Wow. Great service from Zappos (again). I originally ordered the Frye Harness 8RW in a size 9.5M because I had a pair of Frye Engineer boots (also from Zappos) in that size. Well, the Harness must run big, so I called Zappos customer service and they rushed me a size 9M. Perfect. Comfy. Great look. The ONLY problem is that they pull my sweat sock into the boot as I walk. Nevertheless, it's the all-American boot. And I did my research: I wanted boots MADE IN THE U.S.A. Great job to everyone at Zappos!

My other boots to live in - I bought these in brown last year and love to wear them so much that I often found myself changing out of black clothing so that I could wear my Frye Harness boots. I have many pairs of cute but lower quality black boots, but none are as comfy and durable as my Fryes. I finally broke down and bought these in black so I can wear the other half of my wardrobe. These boots suit my "sexy refined tomboy" style perfectly and I can't wait until they are beaten up and broken in as beautifully as my brown ones. A little narrow for my wide feet at first but the black ones seem to soften and mold to my feet even faster than the brown ones did. This kind of quality is worth every penny.

I live in my Frye Belted Harness boots, but with the warm months coming I splurged on the lower version. They don't have the buckle and a more Western heel than my other pair, so they are different enough...and lighter in weight. Already I love them as much as the taller version. They're still at that stiff stage having arrived today and don't yet have the battered, broken-in character that my taller ones do, but I know that in a few days of wear they'll soften up and conform to my foot. As with my other Frye boots, I went a half-size down and added a pair of gel arch supports, so now I can stride into summer in comfort and classic, rugged style. As always, Zappos service was a delight. The boots arrived so quickly that one of these days I'm sure my order will arrive the second I click "Confirm."

Frye Harness Boots - These are very good looking boots, very comfortable and easy to break in. I wore them the first time and they were great, no blisters or sore spots, which is pretty great. The only reason I didn't give them five stars is they do fit a bit loose in the heel so you have to try different socks to remedy that. You should definitely order a 1/2 size down from your regular size.

Additional Brand Information

The Frye Company was founded in 1863 by John A. Frye, a shoemaker from England. Frye is the oldest continuously operating shoe company in the United States. Frye products have a long and illustrious history. Frye boots were worn by soldiers for both sides of America’s Civil War, soldiers in the Spanish-America war, and for Teddy Roosevelt and his Rough Riders. Many New England families during the mid and late 1800’s wore Frye boots as they pioneered across the country to the West.

Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.

In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.

The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

Great boots - Although other reviewers, and even the Frye web site said that the boot runs large, I found them to be exactly true to size. They were slightly stiff the first wearing, but each time I put them on, they feel more comfortable and are breaking in very nicely. I think I will be wearing these boots for a very long time. They look sharp, too. Tailored, not clunky.

No Substitutes! This is the boot that others imitate! The Frye Harness is the real thing, though. Excellent quality, feel and style. When pants cover the harness itself, it looks like a dress boot, but has the functionality that a dress boot doesn't. It is on the narrow side; I have a wide foot and still need to get it professionally stretched a bit (because I don't want to wait to wear them enough to stretch), but need the smaller size for the heel to not slip too much. It has to slip a bit to get on/off, yet shouldn't too much if you use them as motorcycle boots. I've wanted these since I was a little girl and saw the older boys wearing them - so cool! I'm going to get the tan boots next; they look like a well seasoned boot without being worn out.

A great birthday present! I love these boots! I found that I needed 1/2 size smaller than usual, but the width was great for my high instep and wide feet. They are extremely comfortable and cool looking! They are nice and sturdy with a good sole that even has some traction in light snow.

These boots are fantastic and as always Zappos was great! They do fit a little big so I would order a half size down. I'm usually an 8.5 and I ordered the 8.5 boot (they didn't have an 8 in stock). It's a little big, but with thick socks it's fine. It only took one day of wearing them to break them in. They are the most comfortable shoes I own! Love, love, love them.

Great Boot -- Great Buy! This is a truly sexy boot. Looks amazing and the fit is very comfy. Thank goodness for Zappos and all of your reviews as I normally wear a 9 in Frye boots and I got 8.5 in these (as many of you noted that they run a bit large). The fit is great. I have 2 other pairs of Frye Harness boots, both of them with a higher shaft and putting these side by side the 8.5 in this shorter version looks the same length as the 9 in the higher. Very odd but whatever, I'm in love. I got them super quick as usual with Zappos and I'm wearing them today with a long skirt – they rock. As does Zappos!!!

OUCH!!! These boots will take a lot of breaking into. I think once they are broken in they will be a great boot...until then my feet will be aching. I would order a 1/2 size smaller.

Frye Harness 8R - This is one of the best pairs of boots I have owned. They look nice new, but once they weather and get beat up a little, they look awesome. As with most leather boots, they take breaking in. Once you do, they are very comfortable and do not fatigue the feet. They are a tad loose at the heel, but it appears to be by design. They feel a tiny tiny bit larger than marked.

Beautiful boots - I love them. They are more comfy than I expected and did not need too much break in time. Heel is a little hard to get into boot but once in the fit is comfortable. A beautiful and substantial boot.

Wicked cool boots - Great comfy boot. My heel slips as that area is a bit roomy. Perhaps when they are more broken in it won't slip as much...or maybe I just need to wear heavier socks!

Frye Harness - Absolutely Beautiful! These boots are gorgeous! I have always wanted a "biker" boot... so cute with dresses and they look great with jeans, too! I wore them around the house to break them in. The toe box is a little tight, but after a couple of wears, they fit great. Lots of compliments! You do need to go down a half size. I normally wear a 7 and both my Frye boots are a size 6.5.

I love the look - I originally ordered the size 9 as I am more of an 8 1/2. The 9 was huge! I called customer service and was advised to order the 8. I did and they came the very next day. I sent back the 9 and I am all good. The 8 is still just a bit big, but I don't believe that a 7 1/2 would feel very good and I know they would be hard to pull on as the 8 is challenging enough but once they are on, they are comfy. There is a slight breaking in period as the leather needs to be softened and this can only come with wear. These have become my absolute favorite boot with jeans and slacks.

Cool boots!! These boots are classic cool! I tried a couple of different sizes because they have narrow fit across the front of the boot (the top of the ball of my foot & across) but the heel has a bit of room - I ended up keeping my true size. They are comfortable with thin socks and despite the room in the heel; there is no friction/blisters. They look great and are built for pounding the pavement in style.

Perfection - I love these in black in 8" height. How cool am I in these??? VERY! Some reviews say these were not true to size or had fit problems. I put them on (bought one size smaller) and they were perfect! I absolutely love them. The height is just right, they are awesome. Close fitting first time out but I know we will be 'as one' in about one week. No blisters.

These are great boots. I ordered them in the 12 inch style in brown first and then broke down and ordered them in the shorter style in black. They definitely run at least a half size larger than my regular shoe-size. I probably could have gone down a whole size...thicker socks have fixed that problem. I also noticed that the heel slippage does lessen with more wear. I would point out that this shaft height is more comfortable than the twelve-inch...these aren't quite as heavy for all day wear and they don't rub my shins and calves when worn with shorter socks as the taller boots do.

Love these boots - True to size. Frye’s are always a bit tough to get on if you do not have the right socks though, so beware. I have a pretty slim foot and I still really have to PULL them on.
