Onitsuka Tiger by Asics Reviews
Continues to be a great shoe. Thin sole, flat, flexible. It is relatively narrow, so it gives mild wrap-around arch support through lacing up rather than from a physical arch. Gum rubber-like outsole has excellent traction on wood floors and other indoor surfaces. So, at base, this is an excellent, albeit somewhat narrow, all-around gym shoe. This can be a good all-around martial arts shoe...depending on your particular activity. The relative stickiness of the sole will be welcome by many, but probably not by those whose practice involves a lot of fast, weighted turns or spins. That said, I have worn this model (in white) for years. I do several hours of tai chi a day, almost all outside, and often wear the shoes as general use shoes throughout the day. I like the quasi-minimalist feel. For me, the shoe is not quite in the "barefoot" category because it is a bit stiffer than, say, my Merrell Trail Gloves 2, and its toe box is pretty standard width, not as ample as the Merrell's or similar barefoot shoes. Because I wear these for outdoor practice and general daily use, the gum sole could wear out quickly, especially at the heel. My solution has been to proactively use Shoe Goo across the rear of the sole, in the heel area, and to repeat as needed to prevent the heel area from wearing down. As you can see, I must like the feel of these shoes a lot to go through this degree of maintenance! I have generally rotated three pairs through mostly daily use. With the help of a Shoe Goo touch-up every month or two overnight, the shoes last several years. (Sorry for the length of this review, but I thought more detail might be useful to some!) Last comment or two: The leather uppers are soft and will conform to your foot and don't seem to wear out. However, they can get a bit warm in a warm climate. I find it helpful to air out the shoes after each use to minimize odor. In sum, this is a useful MA shoe or gym shoe. It is like a low cut version of a classic wrestling or boxing shoe. I have a fairly narrow foot, so the narrow last suits me fine; for others, perhaps not so. The sole is perhaps too sticky for a lot of indoor spinning turns. It also be a bit slippery on wet outdoor surfaces. Last, although I tend to dress in varying degrees of drab, I really like the color of these shoes -- and, for what it's worth, they are, with one difference, the shoes Uma Thurman wore in the Kill Bill in the Crazy 88 restaurant scene. I did notice that hers had a different outsole pattern and perhaps different rubber composition. Now, if I could only find that Hatori Hanzo sword.
Have only worn them around the house for an hour so far... comfortable, lots of padding at upper, sole has moderate padding - less than moderate arch support, but there is some. Will need better arch support or arch insert for pronators. I think these will conform well to the foot, since the uppers are textile. The gray is a true light gray, not whitefish, so you don't feel you are wearing white shoes. I seem to be between an 8 and an 8.5 for women in this shoe, but I will re-order an 8 -- I expect it to stretch out. Good for walking around town, but I would not use them for running -- the running shoe engineering has gone a long way since the 70s when these were the marketed for runners. But I wanted them for a casual shoe & for that, they are very handsome shoes! Similar styles would be Skechers & other "athletic-leisure" shoes, but these are much more comfortable in the upper for me.
This is my 16th pair of Ultimate 81's. They are the most comfortable shoe ever made. I have peripheral neuropathy which is a condition that basic makes your feet feel like they are on fire is they are exposed. I wear my Tigers 24/7. I even have a pair that I wear to bed on really bad nights. They are easy to clean, just toss them into the washing machine.
These shoes are great. Very stylish and look amazing with any jeans you have. Not the most comfortable, but what I expected from a shoe designed for looks.
I picked up a pair of these recently and am very pleased so far. They seem to be the perfect union of form and function. The styling is controlled yet has just enough pop to it so that the show isn't boring. For example, I love how the sides of the sole wrap up over the upper of the shoe. Functionality wise, they have great grip and are very comfortable on my feet even after wearing them all day. Quality wise the soles seem well built and are attached to the shoe very strongly. The felt toe is a nice design touch and seems to be rather durable. The leather is tough but seems a bit stiff. Hopefully it loosens up a bit so that the leather doesn't tear at the corners of the shoe. I ordered a 12½ and it feels just about a quarter size bigger than I expected. The width is good but again is just a hair too big, though not enough to warrant going down to 12. I chose these over another pair of Sambas, and I cannot adequately describe how excellent of a decision that was.
I chose these as I wasn't a fan of the woman's color options. I looked at other sites and they seem to be unisex so I ordered them. They are awesome! Light weight, the fabric is very light and soft and the bottoms are cushy. Not sure if I'm a fan of the option to tuck down and wear back less, I like them as slip ons. The back strips are interesting. Have been wearing for several weeks right out of the box no issues. Ordered equivalent to my size in my other Asics running shoes so I'd say true to size. Read a review under the white women's design which said they were a bit narrow. These are not, would say medium and same as my running shoes. I don't find them to be wide like a truly man's sneaker. Great for Summer! Oh, and best part for me anyway is the elastic in the tongue does not dig in on your foot, it's almost completely hidden by the fabric of the tongue. I had an old pair of lace less Chuck Taylor's that were awful with the elastic, but these are made much better!
This is my fourth pair of Mexico 66 Tigers. Super low-profile, form fitting and stylish shoes that stand up to a decent amount of abuse and age well.
Awesome shoes! Look closely at the magnified photos for a real look at the materials. Very comfortable rite out of the box and great to wear all day.
I have two other pairs of these each in different styles. These have been my favorite shoes that I've had in a long time. I use them for running/ freerunning and they hold up really well to hard training.

I bought these for my husband and he loves them. His exact words were that "they feel like stepping into a cloud". They come with 2 sets of laces, the gray pictured and yellow (if I recall correctly). I like the pops of color that are fun, but not overwhelming. Happy with the purchase.
Love these! I had another pair in the brand and liked them so much that i got them in another color.
The sizing is accurate. They only look narrow, but they are not, my feet are on the wide side. The colors are deep black and green. They are extremely comfortable, light, and neat. Not a complicated design which I think the main contributor to how they feel. They are great to drive with. Grippy too. I bought two pairs (the other was blue/ red stripe).

I enjoy the design and color of the shoe, but it felt a bit narrow; I suppose that was my error since I didn't order it a size wider. Also from what it looks like here I thought it was more of a running shoe, I was wrong, it's more of a casual shoe for hanging out. All in all, although it was a mistake I'm still fairly happy about this shoe.
The shoe looks great, but felt flimsy and had no arch support. I returned it and bought the Saucony Jazz Low Pro. The Saucony feels like a much more substantial shoe that you would actually want to walk a lot in.

I bought these to replace my worn out Sanuk shoes and LOVE these! They fit so well, have better cushioning than other similar shoes, and look amazing. The pictures make the shoes look a little big/boxy and I was afraid they might be, but they're not at all.
Bought these in white/brown for myself so I had a good pair of walking shoes for my trip to Europe that didn't look too American touristy. These shoes are comfortable, I walked around in them all day without any problems. Moderate arch support. What I like most about these is their sporty, minimalist style.
I was slightly disappointed by how flimsy these Asics felt, especially compared to their other styles. It was also not apparent from the pictures that the black flap in the back that says "Tiger" is not sewn down. That caused it to flop around and was uncomfortable on my heel; ultimately why I returned this product.

Been sporting my new Onitsuka Tiger Serranos for about a month and I absolutely love them. They're ultra light and super comfortable... perfect for summer. The low profile doesn't offer much in terms of arch support, but rather allows your foot do what nature intended.
These shoes are my introduction to the Asics family and I must say, chapeau, well done - I'm impressed! They are like little pillows on my feet and the low stance and the styling of the shoe is truly a thing of beauty. Why the Tokuten's lack the rating, the popularity of its brethren is beyond me. Take a walk, take a chance and give these shoes a try. You won't be disappointed!
