New Balance began as a Boston-based arch support company in the early 1900s, developed into a specialized manufacturer of shoes in the 1970s, and has grown to become a leading global athletic products company. Today New Balance is a family of brands including New Balance, Dunham, PF Flyers, Aravon, Warrior and Brine.

Since the days of selling arch supports to police officers and waiters, New Balance has been a brand concerned with meeting the needs of the everyday athlete. In pursuing this goal, they developed an "Endorsed By No One" philosophy, which holds that a superior product will sell itself better than any superstar athlete ever could. Part of producing New Balance shoes and athletic clothing is manufacturing it to fit all widths and sizes, because a better fit produces better performance.

To ensure the best fitting, best performing shoes and clothes, New Balance focuses on improving their technology and production methods. A big part of that is maintaining five manufacturing facilities here in the United States where they continue to produce New Balance shoes and apparel that meet the standards they've employed for 100 years. They have also remained committed to a core set of values that include integrity, teamwork and total customer satisfaction.

Very comfortable. They support my orthotic arch supports very well. I was excited because they are bright colors. I have had to wear a lot of white athletic shoes in my day.

These are very comfortable. I have fibromyalgia so I wanted good well made sneakers. I tried on all the top brands but these came out on top. The support is great. You can feel the difference in the ankle. I am using these for walking. These also have great toe room. They are not narrow.

I love these shoes! They are so colorful and comfortable. I get more comments on the wild colors. Not bad for a 61 year old Grandma.

These sneakers are amazing! I bought these, along with some inserts, for a trip to New York City with girlfriends. For four days, we walked an average of 10½ miles a day and my feet were saved because I wore these daily. I will absolutely buy shoes like these again! The only funny thing is that I normally wear a 9 but got a 10 because I had been in a New Balance store and the sales guy measured my feet and said a bigger size would work better - and he was right, it did!

I use these only for running, not for cross-training, so I can only speak to how they work for runs. I run on the road and on a treadmill and I really like these shoes. I have never had irregular wear on my shoes (not an under / over pronator) and these provide exactly the right support for running between 15 and 25 miles per week. As per all running shoes, I order a half size larger than I wear in all other shoes. I purchased two additional pair of Nike running shoes (Air Pegasus and Lunarglide) at the same time I purchased these New Balance, but these cradled my heel with no slipping, have a very comfortable toe box, and are easily adjusted for thicker or thinner running socks. If you don't like bright colors, plan on replacing the neon green laces. I dislike neon, so that's the reason for the "4" rating in the style category. Other than that, these bad boys are a solid "5" for me!

I'd also recommend: Brooks, Saucony
