The sizing on this shoe is far from correct. I usually wear a 10.5 4e and an 11 4e is extremely tight.

I really wanted to like this shoe. My size is 10.5 4E. This shoe was no 4E, despite what the label said. So I tried an 11 4E. Still not any wider and so back they go. Bummer they can't make the size right. It's a lovely shoe to look at. Good luck people!

I took note of previous reviews of this shoe and bought half size larger and one size wider and got the perfect fit. For New Balance this is an anomaly as their products, as a rule, are true to size. This alone is the only reason I did not give the shoe an overall five. Otherwise after three to four days of full wear they have conformed to my feet very well, give good arch support, and help stabilize one ankle that suffers from chronic tendonitis. They are stylish, great in moderate weather, and do not seem to get slippery when wet. If you want a comfortable shoe that you can wear during the winter months this would be my recommendation. Another great New Balance product. Of course it goes without saying that Zappos is the only place you need to go when shopping for foot gear.

Very nice looking shoe and a well fitting shoe. Ran about 1/2 size smaller than sized. Had to return it and got a new pair that were keepers.

New Balance is a rare company that makes wide hiking shoe, so kudos for that. The shoe is reasonably comfortable, but starts to feel cramped after a few hours. It would be nice to have a properly comfortable wide hiking shoe, but this is the best you get for now.

Good solid boot for everyday or hiking. I always wear a 10B and want to let you know that this size runs slightly tight in length when I wear a heavy sock.

You need wide! These 4E babies are wide and comfortable. Water proof tested in my bath tub. The leather tops conform nicely to my massive bunion.

I purchased MW978 to replace my favorite pair of NB shoes that are well worn from many years of use. They are similar in style and function to the ones I have. I noticed immediately that one of the shoes felt to be a size smaller in the toe box. Visual inspection confirmed what I was feeling. One of the shoes was stitched narrow and long at the toe. The other shoe felt similar to the ones I have enjoyed all these years. Two stars overall due to lack of quality control.

My feet are difficult to fit (15 4E), so Zappos was perfectly suited for my needs - just specify my size and see availability. I was embarassed that I had to try several pairs to find one that fit correctly, but Zappos kindly paid for the shipping (which was a couple of days) and provided return shipment tags to make it all so easy. So far I am very pleased with these shoes, which I use mainly for walking and hiking.

After buying the discontinued MW977GT (3 pairs) this new model is not even close to being as good.They have narrowed the sole and exaggerated the tread which doesn't give very good stabilization. It seems I do not have the balance or comfort with this new sole. I also don't like the black accents on the toe. I really can't understand why shoe companies change models for the worse.

Too Small! I've worn size 12 NB 900 Series shoes for 10 years. I had to return the size 12 978's besause they were at least 1/2 size too small, and they do not offer half sizes.

After reading the other reviews I ordered the shoes one half size larger than my usual size. They fit great, broke in easy and I wore them on a strenuous tour of Europe.

I'm actually writing this for my husband. He has extremely wide feet (4E). He works outdoors & is on his feet a lot! These are his only shoes, he will not wear anything else. We have tried many brands, & these are his favorite by far. He wears them every day & is extremely hard on them. One pair will last him about 5 months. That is good, because the previous brands we tried were worn out after about 2 months.
