These shoes were an EXCELLENT purchases. My husband and I had a hiking/geocaching trip planned to Utah/Nevada/California so I needed a comfortable, waterproof hiking shoe. I tried several other pairs and they all felt very narrow with your average hiking sock. I don't typically buy wide width shoes but these felt the most comfortable with a thicker sock. Also, they didn't require much breaking in. Our trip was last week and I came home blister free, wearing these shoes 90% of the trip. We did some very strenuous hikes in Zion National Park which included the Subway which was a 9-mile round trip hike through/in/around a river bed. Our first hike was Angel's Landing which was a 4 mile (I think) hike that you hiked up a mountain (switchbacks) and back down. I had some "hot spots" at the end of the hike but nothing that prevented me from putting the shoes on the next day for more hiking. The other benefit of the wide width is I was able to fit a 3mm sock in the shoe for extra warmth when hiking in above-ankle deep snow melt water. Bonus- the shoes are nice looking for everyday wear... they don't scream big bulky hiking shoe. My experience with round laces is they never stay tied but I had no problem with these laces. I have been very happy with these shoes.

An unfortunate purchase I bought these shoes because they're available in wide. Perhaps they are, but not wide enough for a "D." I tried adjusting the laces to create more room around my toes but to no avail. Also, my feet kept slipping out of the heels. I could have dealt with that if the rest of the shoe had been comfortable. Too bad I wore them outside but that's the only way to find out if a shoe is wearable. Carpeted floors are nice to see if a shoe fits but concrete sidewalks are the real test.

I love these shoes. I wore them so much that after I wore down the sole I bought another pair. Although, the second pair didn't seem to have as much arch support as the first ones. They're great for traveling, day hiking, and general walking. They are waterproof - I've worn them in pouring rain many times and my feet never got wet. They were the best thing I brought with me when I went to Indonesia during the rainy season! Very lightweight.

I just wrote these for the first time, and they are literally the most comfortable shoes I have ever owned. I write then to the gym because I couldn't find my sneakers, and it was great! can't wait to take them hiking. The only negative is that I find them to be unattractive, but they are perfect for getting dirty in the woods I guess.

Great, waterproof shoe. Only "negative" is the tongue is very stiff, hope it will soften over time. Sizing is better than a year ago. Merrell must have listened.
I'd also recommend: New Balance, Keen
