Maui Jim Reviews
Love the look of these, but boy they can break easily. I've broken 2 pair now from them falling off my head. Also, if you wear moisturizer or suntan lotion around your eyebrows, the lenses can get dirty quick.
Somebody left a pair of these at a summer party my parents had in the '90s. We could never figure out whose they were, so in the end I got to keep them (both my parents wear prescription sunglasses). At the time I was a kid and thought they were kind of ugly "old people" sunglasses. Now that I'm an adult I've rediscovered them and couldn't be more pleased. Considering how old they are, they are in great shape. Solid construction, study frames, good quality screws, the lenses have no scratches after 15 years or life. Even the rubber nose pads are still in good shape, though I should probably have them replaced. The style is great too - not something I would have appreciated when I was a kid, but a classic aviator style with a more elegant shape than the standard, square aviator. If they're still built like they used to be, these sunglasses should last you a long, long time.
Well...there's nothing like Maui Jims for making the world look a little better. It's really nice that they've upped the style quotient with these, too. The metal side bars are bamboo shoots, and the little sprigs at the corners of the frames are bamboo leaves. Very cool. The frames are thick, rounded and really comfortable. I was a little concerned when I a read a review by an Asian customer who said they fit her wide nose bridge, but I'm a tall, blonde anglo chick with a relatively slim nose bridge, and they are really comfortable on me, too. I can endorse the statement that they tend to be a little snug on the sides, but not uncomfortably so. I'm very happy with these...as usual, Mauis are worth every penny.
Amazing glasses. I was a die hard Ray Ban fan until I tried these. You barely know you are wearing them and the optics are spectacular. Maui Jim also has great customer service. I broke the bridge on these after a year when they were stepped on. Sent them back to Maui and they were repaired for a processing fee.
I love the lenses and the style and the soft rubbery nose piece. I can slide these up in my hair and they won't get caught or pull my hair. The only con is they are just a little big for my head/face. I will keep them anyway.
I took a chance in spite of other reviewers warning that the glasses tend to break. So far no problem (two months), although I've been extra cautious. They look good, provide excellent coverage, and stay put over my eyes or on the top of my head.
I bought these 1.5 years ago to add to my collection of swanky sunglasses. These shades are by far the best I have ever come across: they are so light I hardly feel their weight - hence no pressure points over the bridge of my nose, they provide great coverage even on the sides, there is no glare and the lenses are so adaptable to different light conditions that going from sun to shade does not bother me. And they are very suitable for sports as they do not slip or move around at all - you put them on and they stay. I only wish I bought them through Zappos as the price was much higher in the store and Zappos has the best customer service and shipping in the universe.
Got a pair of stingrays for Fathers Day 2011. Nice look and great fit. Too weighty for me with the glass lenses and the bottom of the rims rub against my cheekbones if I smile or squint my eyes. The spring loaded temples are nice for putting them on my face, but their flexibility keeps them from staying on my head or hat when not in use. This caused them to fall from my head to the floor (about 5') and nicked both lenses right in my direct line of sight! The weight made them fall harder and scratch/ding easier than even medium quality/priced plastic lenses. What a disappointment especially after only two months of having them. Sunglasses usually last me at least a year without scratching. I sent them in for repair and Maui Jim replaced the lenses quickly although there was a charge $40.00.
I bought these for my husband and he LOVES them. So lightweight and the "reader" function is not obvious. I wish there were more style options with the magnification; I'd buy a pair for myself.
I LOVED my Kula except for the fact they've broken in the middle twice now. I think they're too heavy without proper support in the middle of the lenses. I still love Maui Jim sunglasses but I wish they'd repair these without cost since this is the SECOND time being repaired for the same problem.
I really like these shades and my wife loves them on me. The style is right for my face shape. With that said, I like sunglasses that cover enough of the eye that light can't blind you from the side or below. These get about a B+ on that measure. Pros: Trendy color (brown)and cool shape ala Micheal Weston on Burn Notice. Maui Jim equals primo lenses/polarized, etc. Not too dark and perfect for lower light situations. Comes with protective case and cleaner/bag (not always the case, i.e., Oakley). Cons: The temples are slightly too short for my face. Not sports/active sturdy (more fragile). Not really an every day set you can wear, i.e., active, bright light.
This is my first pair of non-prescription sunglasses after eye surgery and I could not be happier. I get a lot of compliments on the looks of the glasses. The quality of both the frames and lens also seem first class. I would recommend these to anyone with a smallish face. The readers are small, but that seems appropriate for sunglasses.
So far so good! I got these before reading any reviews, and I have to say that I love them. They are very lightweight, flexible, and so far, my hair hasn't gotten caught in them. It's true that you may need to use both hands to slide them on as the arms are very flexible and get a little wonky if your hair gets in the way... but for the style and comfort, I think I can live with that.
Nice glasses. They don't fit as nicely as some others I have owned. I rather wish I had purchased them through an optician who could fit them for me.
The best sunglasses! I live in Florida, and I am a fisherman that spends a lot of time on the Atlantic Ocean. I can't go out without my Mauis! Incredible glasses! They're crystal clear, and you don't have to squint at all.
I've had these glasses for about a year and a half and have worn them every work day since I bought them and they are awesome. Super light and pretty durable, I've probably dropped them 15-20 times and they are still holding strong. There are a few scratches on the lenses, but it's to be expected due to the abuse. I wear them at work because they are ANSI certified for shatter resistance and safety glasses are mandatory all the time.
Love them. Lenses are very clear and they don't slide on your face.
Maui Jim glasses are amazing! Zappos did a great job with description and visuals because these fit perfect.
These glasses are so light weight you forget you are wearing them. The style should look well on everyone.
Mui Jims are hands down my favorite sun glasses ever. Between their sport models and the more fashiony pairs, they do an excellent job at crafting comfortable and great looking performance eye wear. After being a devout Ray Ban aviator wearer, I gave the Wiki wikis a try. The Mui Jim polarized lenses are far more true to color and effectively remove glare. These are well sized for ladies and those who are skewed on the more petite end of the spectrum. I love them and they are highly recommend!
These glasses are a bit wide so if you have a smaller head be warned. That said they are great sunglasses.
