The Boulder X is a great balance between hiker and climber, which allows it to be a very versatile approach shoe. The shoe offers a very rigid shank that provides great stability in the heel and the ball of the foot. Though rigid, the shoe flexes with ease in every step. The insole is very conforming to the shape of your foot. The heel is wide enough to allow for a larger foot; however, the lacing system allows a narrow foot to be secure (as I have a very narrow foot). The wiggle box is very tight as most La Sportiva climbing shoes are. So if you have very wide toes the fit may be pretty snug. The box is very narrow at the tip, which I have found takes some breaking in, but the leather uppers do provide a little stretch after a few days. Most of the pressure on my feet came from the uppers above the toes, quite tight... The shoes have broken in after a few days and I have found the toe is narrow enough that it is perfect for toe jamming in cracks. The ankle of this shoe is very comfortable and provides an incredible amount of cushioning on the medial and lateral sides. I appreciate the extra padding as these shoes allow for the very comfortable ride during abrasive approaches. The leather and padding on the shoes are incredibly thick so they wear like a terribly light trekking boot. The sole of the boot has a very aggressive tread via Vibram. The tread gains amazing traction on all surfaces I have tested so far. The soles stick to rock like glue. I am really impressed with this feature, as La Sportiva has not used Vibram in many of their products of the past. I find the Boulder X to be a good fit for me. I sized up a 1/2 size larger than I would, but I usually do in La Sportiva products. I was unsure about the fit at first, but after a few days the shoes felt great.

The quality of La Sportiva is amazing. The construction is solid and made from top components and materials. I tried quite a few different brands prior to Boulder X from the same category, but nothing really compares. This is a stable, well balanced shoe with a sticky sole technology that just can't compare to anything out there at this moment. Unfortunately, it runs pretty narrow.

An improvement over the Cirque Pro, same fit and Mythos lacing but a better tread pattern and sturdier toe rand, great friction on wet moss and lichen, perfect for scrambling and anything steeper up to around 5.8.

Bought these on a recommendation from a friend. They are awesome. Bought them mainly for a trip to climb Grand Teton. Performed beyond expectations. From hiking with a pack up to camp, to climbing the 5.7 Lower Exum and scrambling on the Upper Exum, these shoes provided the sure footing I needed. The rubber rand was great for foot jams, too. Buy them, you won't be disappointed.

These feel more expensive then they are. They are really comfortable. Toebox is solidly protected. Great tread that is one solid piece. Considering for parkour training presently, but shock absorption is lower than a running shoe. (cheaper running shoes absorb more and wear out quick...this is the opposite). Shock absorption is more than the Five Tens though.

These are really nice shoes, they fit well and provide good support (I use my own arch supports); however, the sole on these shoes is problematic. The sole seems to be of a really soft rubber compound and it will leave scuff marks everywhere (and I mean everywhere). So you would think with a soft compound rubber that the shoe would grip on snow and ice. Well, it doesn't and is terrible on ice (I think the rubber gets hard when cold). I really like this shoe and it is a great spring/summer/fall hiker but don't wear it during icy conditions and don't wear these on hardwood, linoleum, or tile floors (unless you like cleaning up scuff marks).

These shoes are fantabulous. I purchased a pair as my everyday shoes, hoping to find something that would be comfortable and would last a very long time. I'm pretty sure I've found a shoe that fits both of those qualities in the Boulder X. The shoes have a fairly narrow toe box, which I understand is typical in La Sportiva shoes. I ended up with shoes a size-and-a-half larger than my normal size. No heel slippage, but good room for the toes!

Fantastic shoes - fit is brilliant, though you must order one to two sizes larger than usual. Super comfortable but stiff enough to use for approach and climbing. It is soft rubber on the outside for climbing, so it will scuff. And as it is soft rubber, it is not good on ice. If Jesus could make shoes, they would be something like these.

Excellent materials and details. Well made and great looking. Super comfortable and supportive after a brief break in period. Unique lacing system is very effective. Grippy, stable, and confidence inspiring performance on wet rocks, muddy, root covered slopes, and forest trails. La Sportiva nailed it with this shoe. Love it.

I bought these from Zappos because they had the full range of sizes. I normally wear a 46 in European shoes, these are a 48 and are perfect. Great shoes, comfortable right out of the box. Very grippy and good for boulder hopping, rock scrambling, and rock climbing. I also like the look of these!

Just took these with me on a trip through Patagonia, and I was more than impressed with them. Great for all kinds of terrain, even as everyday walking shoes. One of the best pairs of shoes I have ever owned. Was my first La Sportivas and I am sure this won't be the last! And the VIP Zappos next day service was great!

Nice quality shoe, and very comfortable. The shoe is short and narrow for its size, and fits somewhat like a rock climbing shoe. You may want to consider ordering one size up for hiking use.
