These boots are gorgeous and extremely comfortable. Clearly the best low-heeled black boots out there. The craftsmanship is outstanding and really shows in every small detail: the quality of the leather and the sole, the construction of the goring, and the seaming. Plus the fact that they are waterproof is amazing! I think the stitching and the shape of the toe and heel make the boot look very feminine, which I love. It's perfect for wearing with skirts or dresses, as well as under flared or boot-cut jeans (I don't think the boot would fit over skinny jeans for me). I agree with the prior poster who noted that the leather is somewhat pebbly, rather than completely smooth, but I think the boot still looks plenty dressy. And the "pebbly" look probably means that minor scuffs and scratches over time will be less noticeable -- which is important in a boot of this price! This does mean, however, that the boot does not look as "shiny" as some others -- so just be aware of that. My only caution about this boot is that the shaft is rather short and quite skinny. For me, that is a good thing. My calves are exactly 12.5 inches, and I was having trouble finding boots that fit well, rather than looking huge on my legs. So if you have skinny calves, this boot will be perfect for you. If you have larger calves, it might not work. The other caveat is that the shaft is a little short. I am 5'4", and I think the height looks okay -- but it is about 4 inches below my knee. On a taller person, these boots might be "mid-calf" rather than true knee boots. I wear either a size 8.5 or 9, and I ordered size 8.5. That gives me plenty of room to wear socks or tights, and the boots are not at all too tight. Definitely order down if you are torn between sizes. All in all, I cannot recommend these boots highly enough. The price is really the only downside, but you get what you pay for. I ordered a pair of La Canadienne brown, suede knee-high boots 5 years ago, and I have used them as my primary winter snow boots ever since. They are still in excellent shape -- well-insulated, waterproof, and stylish. I hope to get 5-10 years of use out of these boots as well!

This is a beautiful boot from a great company. Sadly, I must return this pair as they are far too tight around my calf. It is very challenging to zip them and it feels like my circulation is being cut off when I finally do! I've not had this problem with any other boot from La Canadienne.

This is beautiful and very comfortable, but the calf runs small, and there is no wide size.

Cute boot, but unfortunately doesn't quite work for me. The heel is cute, but seems a bit out of proportion with the rest of the boot. It's also not quite as comfortable as I had hoped, putting more pressure in the middle of the heel than I'd like. These are definitely for women with thin calves, too -- my calves measure 13.5" at the widest point, and I could just barely get these zipped. The shaft on size 6.5 is only 13.5" tall as well, about an inch shorter than I expected. Bottom line, these will work well for short, thin women, but if your calves are over 13" around, I wouldn't recommend them, sadly.
I'd also recommend: Pikolinos, Gabriella Rocha

I love these boots, and even bought a second pair (although I found them on another site on sale). I'm a flight attendant, and needed basic black boots that are comfortable. I can wear these for 12 hours and not want to chop off my feet. I don't even bring other shoes for my overnights. They aren't a sexy boot, but they are a classic style. These boots are the most expensive shoes I've purchased, but for the amount of hours I've worn them, so worth it. My first pair I've worn for 3 seasons, and bought the second pair last year which I've barely used. The first pair's lining on the heel is worn out, but other than that, are keeping up. They are not an over-the-jean boot like others mentioned.
