The leather trim is very stiff, and it really hurt my ankle bone during the break-in. You may be fine if you have thick feet so that your bone (lateral malleolus?) is a lot higher than that trim. The sole also feels very thin. You'll have sore feet if you walk more than 3 miles a day like me.

Another disappointment by Varvatos on the shoes. The style is there, but the craftsmanship, comfort, quality just isn't. It may have to do with where they are made.

Horrible shoe. Yes, it looks great, but it is cheaply made, and you can feel it. Definitely, not worth the cost or even less for that matter. Tried another JV dress shoe and same problem. Will stay away from this brand.

Needed a classic darker brown pair of Oxfords and couldn't be happier with the choice. Not only do these look great, they are surprisingly very comfortable, too. Very versatile as well.

John Varvatos shoes are my go-to. I have 3 different colors in the Chukka now. This shoe feels so broken in right out of the box that it's my top choice for a work shoe. I can't find a better product out there. Can't wait for summer, going to try a low top from JV...I'm sure this will be a great shoe as well.

Very soft and comfortable. This is my 2nd JV shoe. Someone said sole is thin and not great for walking all day - that could be true, but I'm fine walking in these shoes in NYC for at least 4-5 hours.

Looks like dream shows! Pretty good fit as well. Of course not as comfortable as tennis shoes but freaking awesome overall. It breaks my heart to see the creases develop on the front, and the darkening of color, but this is probably inevitable, isn't it?

Excellent looking boot. I get compliments all the time including from a podiatrists who sees 100s of shoes! My complaint is the leather is very tough and unforgiving so if you have a high bridge or sensitive foot it can be slightly uncomfortable and have to keep the laces very loose.

I originally ordered size 11 (my size), but the shoe looked and felt entirely too long. Having said that, that is the style in some shoes. I re-ordered size 10.5 and the shoe felt much better. Yet it maintains that slender (somewhat) long foot, without being clownish looking.

My son has flat feet and uses stilts to correct that with these boots because they are so flat. Overall, great boots, albeit pricy.

The best shoes I have ever bought! I'm usually not a shoes fanatic, and takes a lot to impress me, but when I saw this shoes on the website, I needed it. I was overjoyed when I received it and found out it's true to the size. It fits perfectly, very comfortable and light, and the color combination is just brilliant. This is the only shoes that I loved so much. This definitely is the money's worth.

Buyer beware! If you are between sizes, make sure to round up to the next larger size. I am a size 12- Ecco dress shoes, Timberland boots, New Balance tennis shoes- size 12, period, but these JUST fit on my feet. I will be wearing my thinnest socks with these. Aside from that, IMO these are the hippest (pardon the expression) shoes on the market. I got them in lead and black calfskin, and I couldn't be happier with the look and build quality. Great with jeans.

Not worth the money. After purchasing these for my spouse to wear less than four months ago, the back heel is peeling off. Not cool; considering the amount of money that they cost. They should be much better quality. Plus, they were hard to break in. I'm hoping that we can get them repaired rather than getting a replacement pair. I did read the reviews prior to purchasing and I kind of knew they would be a pain to break in, but they were the perfect "look" for him. They hurt in the heel area during the break in period. Mind you, he does not walk long distances in them, just errands and in the office. They are getting 3 stars based on look alone.

I normally wear 8½, but I had to exchange them to buy a 7½ to get my size right. They very stylish, a bit less glossy than what you see in the photo, especially the heel. The leather feels very flexible, I am hoping it would be strong over the long run. They hug the foot on either side, so a bit narrow, which is how I wanted them. I am expecting the leather to ease up a bit after a few times I wear them, such that it gets to be perfect. Hopefully the construction is strong enough to hold up while it eases up. Runs quite long (a ton of room in front of the toes), so pick the size accordingly.

My buddy and I both bought a pair of these shoes for the trendy look. We love the Varvatos style. In the store, these shoes felt like slippers. Great feel. But after a couple of days on the street, we both developed blisters. Conclusion: These babies are merely for looks. I do not recommend them other than going out once a week, for a short dinner date or movie. They are not really constructed or designed with the human foot in mind. The shoes that I still swear by are Pradas. I have a number of pairs that have lasted over 7 years of daily wear.

AMAZING DRESS SHOE! These shoe are not only super, super comfortable, but they look great with everything from a suit, to a tux, to wearing them out with some dressier jeans. Really great shoe.

Great looking Chukka boot with both jeans and chinos. These Chukka boots were more comfortable that I expected. You have to loosen the laces quite a bit to get them on initially, but it gets easier the more you wear them. Overall, I am very happy with these.

Incredible pair of shoes at a very reasonable price. Dress 'em up, dress 'em down. Also very comfortable. I'm sure I'll be rocking these shoes for many years to come.

I love these boots. I first saw them in Bloomingdales, but couldn't bring myself to spend the money on them. After looking at knockoffs for several weeks, I decided to bite the bullet since my heart was set on them. Unfortunately, they are just a little bit too big, but otherwise they are all around stellar. They are really comfortable, and they look awesome. While they are clearly marked as made in China, they still appear to be really well made and exude quality.

Shoe style and comfort were adequate. However, after wearing for about 6 months (about 3 times per week), the top layer of leather began to peal back. Note that this isn't scuffing, it seems to be a top layer of leather veneer that is coming off from both shoes. At first it was just a small nick, but now it's expanded considerably. I brought the shoes into a shoe repair shop who told me that the leather used for the shoes is very cheaply constructed and there was basically no way to fix it. I am astonished that my pair of designer shoes are cheaply constructed, used low quality leather and are unable to be repaired...I was planning on keeping these shoes for years and having them re-soled. Now, I won't be able to do that.

Zero arch support. Very thin soles with no cushion. The shoe looks good, but lacks substance. Fairly comfortable, but I wouldn't want to spend the day walking around in these shoes. And, they are very hard to get on without a shoe horn. In my opinion, they aren't worth the money. Overall, I am disappointed. I will probably never by John Varvatos, again.
