Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.
In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.
The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

Angel choir. Beautiful boots that fit perfectly right out of the box. You extended calf ladies know what I'm talking about. The size 10 is just right for me; I have a medium width foot and low instep and will occasionally wear a 9.5 in flats and sandals. My calf circumference is about 17.5 and the boots fit, no problem (bear in mind that as the size goes up, the circumference on a boot goes up as well -- you generally gain about a quarter of an inch per size). As some others have noted, it would be nice if they were a bit taller. I think the ideal wearer for this cut is probably shorter than my 5'8", but this is a minor quibble for boots I hope to have forever.

First purchase at Zappos and I was very disappointed. I wish I can attach pictures. The left shaft did not match the right. The leather on the left looks like tumbled full grain while the right looks like dark brown calf shine. Very, very poor dye job. This was the last pair but did not expect this to look like 2 different boots. I am sure this was purchased and returned many times before with the same reason but why would Zappos return to inventory defective items for other people to buy and return. Waste of shipping $$$. Zappos is supposed to inspect all returns, don't they read and listen to the reasons for returns? Even if they pass this on to 6pm.com, I think people would still return these even if purchased at a discount. I am 5'0" and have 16 1/4 inches calves. I normally wear a size 6 and bought the 6. These fit with room to spare for leggings. The boot shaft ends 2 inches below my knees. The foot bed is padded. The toe box is a little tight and there is heel slippage but I'm sure these will loosen up and get better once broken in. I purchased this style because of the extended calf version but I really prefer the Vera slouch style...if only they had them in extended calf version. I wish Frye will produce the extended calf version in several colors (not just black and dark brown). I am returning these and I hope Zappos does not put this pair back for sale and if they do, this is not even worth the price off.

I love these boots. Very well made and good quality leather. The dark brown is a nice deep brown that goes with everything. I purchased both the regular and wide calf to compare, and although I was able to pull the regular boots on, they were a bit snug while the wide boots were perfect. I'm a size 6.5 and they are true to size with minimal break in needed. The soles are extremely comfortable. I'm 5'1 with 14.25-14.5 inch calves. The wide boots are only about a 1/2 inch wider than the regulars. They fit me well and I'm able to wear them with skinny jeans. I'm not sure if this is just with this boot, but the wide boots were slightly taller (about a 1/2 to 3/4 inch) than the regular boots, on me they hit about 2 inches below my knee which is perfect.

These are beautiful boots, unfortunately "wide calf" is a bit of a overstatement, especially if you have a small foot in combination with a wide calf. I am sure for women in the 9-11 shoe size the circumference is fine due to the fact that it increases ¼" with every size, but for a 7½with a wide calf the extra ½" they give you with the "wide calf" version of these boots opposed to the regular version is just not enough. I could barely get my skinny jeans in with them. Getting my foot in the bottom portion was difficult, they also look much higher in the picture and ended up hitting me mid calf. Had the boots not been so expensive I may have kept them and dealt with the dissapointments, but for the price, that is not the case. They are going back and the search continues. My suggestion to Frye is make boots that are actually wide calf in every size not just the bigger ones, and in more varieties than two styles of boots.

Okay, this is my 5th pair of Frye boots and about the 100th I have tried. I have wide calves and don't like to feel like my legs are being suffocated. I ordered these with the hope of them feeling comfy and slouching like they should, not like I stuffed them in there. Well, they are everything I hoped for! They fit me perfect, look great and finally, a pair of Frye boots that actually have a wide calf, as claimed! Bravo Frye!

Love these boots! They are the first boot I have ever found to fit my calves! My calves are 17", but then I am also short so my calves start lower than an average person, so finding boots to fit my legs has been an endless search. Well, I no longer have to keep looking! I usually wear between a 7 and 7.5 so I went with the 7.5 and they fit great. Normal socks will work, but I think really thick socks will be too much. So in love!
