Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.
In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.
The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

Super cute boots to go with spring dresses + more! At first I had my mind set on Carson boots, as they came in so many colors, but I was won over by these Veronica Shorties once I tried them on. For me (I'm 5'4"), Carson boots stopped at the biggest part of my calves and made me look dumpy, whereas these boots stopped just below that spot, giving me shape & made my legs look thinner. Since I planned to wear these with spring dresses for that sweet + tough look, these would be perfect! Even my husband likes them, which is a rare feat.

Finally ordered my dream Fryes... but these do not work with dresses. Even my teenagers agree. Will try a different one. I ordered a size up as suggested and they felt fine.

Love these boots! Having a med-wide foot, I highly suggest going up 1/2 size. The cognac color is awesome -- somewhat of a whiskey/orange color at the top and beat up brown from the ankle down. It took a couple of pairs to get proper fit but Z's always awesome on returns. If you have fuller calves, definitely go for the shortie! Awesome boots, wish I could get every color. Beware - the distressed boots definitely have the look. If you want dressy, do not get distressed or burnished.

Bought these in the butter. They are made of garment leather, so it's really nice and pliable, not stiff and hard like my Harness boots. Wanted the taller version, but they were gone, so I ordered these. They fit is right on, a little more true to size than some of the other Frye boots I have. Probably narrow for most people, but thank heaven I have narrow feet and it's nice to find shoes and boots that actually fit, and I'm not swimming around in width.

I was actually afraid to try these boots because I have wider feet and a high instep and Fryes were always too narrow or pinched at my instep. The leather in Fryes is usually thick and heavy and bogs my feet down, but not these! They fit my feet like a glove and I can tell that they will feel even better with time. The leather is soft and the top circumference of the boot nice and wide too. Support inside the boot is good. The fit runs a little snug, especially for anyone with a high instep or wider feet, go up half a size at least. Although length is about right. There is a nice low heel, that is very comfortable for Fryes. I will have these for years!

I just got these boots in the black and love them. I am normally a 8.5-9 (I have the Campus boot in an 8.5) and went with the 9 on this one based on other reviews. It fits perfect. I can wiggle my toe, plenty of room to wear with socks in the winter. I can also wear them in the summer barefoot or with a thin sock and they fit fine. I can't wait to break these in (although they are comfortable from the first time I put them on). They look great with shorts, leggings, skinny jeans and dresses! You can also wear them year round. Perfect to go out in but also to just run errands in. I am 5'5" with medium athletic calves and the top of the boot comes perfectly to my mid calf with plenty of room to spare around the calf (about 1.5 inches room at the top). Very classy with a bit of edge. I wish I could afford to get them in every color! I just love Fryes, they are timeless classics that will never go out of style. Couldn't purchase off Zappos because they didn't have the plain black color, but I love Zappos! Who can beat free shipping and returns?
