Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.
In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.
The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

I loved these booties! I was so excited to see my Zappos box when the UPS guy showed up. I screamed like a little school girl. Tore open the box, literally threw the stuffing out of the booties, unzipped them, and put them on. They were a bit tight, which I was expecting from all the reviewers who were saying that you wanted them tight, that the quality Frye leather would stretch and after a few wears, fit like a glove. I tried them on with four different pairs of jeans, jeggings, a straight leg, a bootcut, and a skinny. They looked great with every pair. I tried them on with a little white knee length dress. Oh my god! It was adorable. I loved them so. I wanted to marry them. But alas. The heel. Gorgeous little kitten heel. Why did they place you so weirdly? I could feel the heel through the sole. It hurt. I could tell if I wore them for long periods of time that they would bruise my heel. I contemplated vanity over comfort. I wanted them to hang out in my closet so badly. To open the closet door in the mornings and look upon the glory of these beautiful boots would brighten any woman's day. But I just could not keep them. Darn you Frye! You ripped my heart out when you gave these gorgeous booties a very uncomfortable heel bed! So I sent them back. I shed a tear as I wrapped them back up, printed the shipping label and sealed the Zappos box. I called Zappos, and ordered the Veronica Shortie. I have full faith in Ronnie that she will fill the void in my heart that was left by these beautiful little booties that Frye calls the Steffi. Boo!

Design flaw? These are the cutest boots ever, super-soft leather, very stylish but the footbed where the heel attaches is just awful. It's like the top of the heel sticks into the bottom of shoe about 1/8" and they covered it with a leather patch. Maybe it's just the pair I got, but I couldn't walk to the end of the driveway in these boots. Anybody else have this problem?

My only concern -- beware of the heel. They covered the bottom with plastic and it can be slick. I take a long stride, which may factor in, and slipped once in my garage. I realized I needed to be more careful. However, the next fall occurred in a store and I can down hard on a tile floor. It prompted me to take them to the shoe repair. They are replacing the plastic with rubber. A $14 fix and cheaper than my doctor bill. However, I agree with the others -- the most comfortable boots I own. Pricey but worth every penny. The zipper makes it possible for me to get these on my feet. After the first wearing they had conformed to my foot and I can wear them all day -- unlike anything else I have with a heel.

I normally wear 6.5 in dress and athletic shoes and these were true to size. I do understand what people mean about the heel. It's not terribly uncomfortable but it does feel like you're heel sits on a little bump. The heel is a little wider than expected. My socks keep slipping off. I have medium width foot. The leather is beautiful and soft. It's definitely good quality leather. I wore it out in the rain and when it dried up, everything looked normal. This is my first pair of Frye so the quality remains to be seen. I do take very good care of my shoes. I have a pair of boots that I bought in Italy that are 12 years old and they still look pretty new since I don't wear it every day and I do get it polished and conditioned. I expect that these will last as long on me. I love the low heels and despite the heel situation, it's pretty comfortable to walk in. I tried an insole and this does seem to help with making the heel more comfortable. I would recommend these boots. They are very cute.

I'm a Frye-holic and was eyeing these up for a bit because I wanted booties. The reviews about the heel hurting were concerning but since Zappos is like having your own shoe store in your house, I just ordered them. First day I got them, I wore them for hours on my feet at a function and no pain/weirdness! Maybe because they're booties the leather is softer than my other Fryes, but they are gorgeous and buttery soft. Snatch them up before they're gone, they are delights.
