Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.
In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.
The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

This is my first pair of leather boots and I'm really pleased with the product. I was a bit surprised at how baggy they were around the ankle and the calf. I have rather small ankles and calves so maybe it's just me. But they are comfortable and pretty much any pair of pants will easily tuck into them. I would recommend buying the leather conditioner straight away as the leather on mine felt a bit dry to start with. Plus, you'll want to weatherproof them.

I found them. After two months of ordering, waiting, trying and returning I finally found the perfect boots. I have larger calves and thought I could only wear zippered boots and be able to tuck in my denim and leggings. After ordering the Frye Melissa Gore boot, I thought I had them but they ran large in the foot and the calf was still tight. Shirley was my last hope for a comfy, classic, flat riding boot to help me through the Chicago winter. I'm relieved and totally satisfied. Buy them!

I bought these boots on a Monday night and they arrived the following day which was amazing to begin with. The boots fit me well I ordered my true size and I have a wide foot and a thicker calf (15.5 in) they looked a little foreign right out of the box I had a hard time getting used to them on my feet for the first 6 hours that I wore them they were not uncomfortable just not mine yet. But, by the end of the second day that I wore them I felt like I had had them for years. They molded and conformed to my feet really quickly and they have a cushion right at the ball of your foot that is perfect. I am going to take them to the cobbler to have him put a plastic/rubber barrier sole on the bottom so the surface of NYC doesn't destroy these beautiful soles. I deliberated for a while before I bought them because of the price but now I don't regret it even a little bit. In fact I feel silly for waiting. I bought them in the black.

These shoes are definitely tight around the ankle so they need time to break in. Overall these are not bad boots. They are comfortable after being broken in and they are very stylish.
