Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.
In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.
The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

These are gorgeous! I spent forever researching riding boots, even ordered the Melissas and sent them back. I wanted a boot to hit right below the knee (check), look sleek and fit tightly up my calf (check), and look classic with amazing quality construction (check). I recommend these if that's what you're going for. Simply perfect and they are extremely comfortable. Perhaps a little long in the footbed in my normal size, but I love how they fit. It's always nice when boots have a little room. These can also be dressed up or down easily. The price is definitely scary but they're exactly what I wanted so I'm dealing with it!

These boots are simply fabulous! I ordered the espresso color and they are rich, made of quality leather and a classic design. Believe the reviews about the sizing. I normally wear an 8 and ordered a 7½ and they were perfect! The best part is that the shaft is super slim! It has been hard to find nice boots that do not swim on my skinny legs. This is the one! You will have to work a little to pull them off at first but that and the price are definitely worth it. I highly recommend these boots for all the ladies with thin legs!
I'd also recommend: Charles David, Ferragamo

Love these boots! I have been looking forever for a really nice boot that is flat (and not a cowboy boot) -- and I'm so happy I finally found it! These boots make my chunky calves look skinny thanks to the vertical panels. Super comfortable, reasonably priced, great quality, made in USA -- Thank you, Frye!

These gorgeous boots are a keeper. Like many others who've reviewed it recently, I have been in a search for a good quality riding boot that fits well, stylish yet still sporty, and in a rich dark brown. Found 'em! Only reminder is order them a half size down. They are too "roomy" otherwise. I'm 5'4" and boot height is perfect and right below bottom of my knee cap. Cheers to Frye for still making high quality footwear.

I generally have a hard time finding boots that fit over my calves so I was intrigued by the stretch panels and decided to give them a try. So glad I did, they slipped over beautifully and have a fantastic look. Nice upright shaft with stitched soles and very high quality leather. They do tend to run a bit large but I like to put insoles in my boots so that has turned out to be a good thing. I wear them over jeans and with skirts and dresses and every time I wear them I get lots of compliments.
