These boots are amazing! Here are my stats: I'm 5'6 , wear size 8, and my calf has a 15.5" circumference. It's usually so frustrating to find boots that fit, as I have to go up a size and then it's too big in the foot. Hunter boots? Forget about it. So I was so excited when I found these. They're perfect. I can wear them with skinny jeans and they don't bulk up. They can be stiff at first, but get very comfortable quickly. Hope this helps!

Very nice boot. Slim looking, beautiful leather, and a comfortable heel height. A little taller than the equally lovely Melissa Button (which created a boot muffin top on me). Paige was muffin top-free.

The most beautiful boots ever. AT FIRST they will be close to impossible to get on and off... but this goes away after a few wears. Very comfortable. You might have a few blisters, too, for the first few wears, but it gets better. So worth it.

I finally decided to buy these boots and I am so happy that I did. I was worried because I am short (5'3), but they come up just below my knee cap. They are the perfect height! I decided to ignore the comments about ordering down a half size. I am a size 8 and ordered a size 8 and they are perfect. I found that putting on thicker socks when I wear tights takes care of any heel slippage. I have thicker calves so I was worried they would be tight, but they are perfect. I have plenty of room for skinny jeans. I also had no problem getting them on and off. These are definitely my favorite boots and I have been wearing them constantly. I can't wait to order some other colors!

I bought these January 2010 and had a love-hate-love relationship with them. I'm 5' tall, 120 lbs, with a 14.5" calf at the largest point. I usually wear a size 4 or 6 in clothes and a 6.5 or 7 shoe. I bought them in a 6.5 in black and they were beautiful from the start. The leather is like butter, there was absolutely no breaking in period and I loved them. But after a while I felt like they were too tall for my frame, they came right under my knees, and then the extra pieces of leather started to flare out making my legs look wider than they actually are. I took them to my shoe guy and he sewed the outer flaps down on the sides which definitely helped, but it didn't solve the problem of the shaft being too tall for me. Plus, I found I couldn't wear them with skinny jeans; I could only wear them over leggings or with tights & a skirt. Being so petite, I could only wear them with a relatively short skirt or else the proportions were all wrong. For the price I really wanted something I could use all the time. So began the hate part (sigh). Now it's November 2010 and I'm back to loving them. The leather has softened even more so they slouch just enough to bring the shaft down about an inch or 2 which is perfect for me. Plus, I can wear them for 13 hours straight without a problem. People have reported the soles are thin and they are, compared to my Campus 14G lug sole boots, but they've held up really well. Overall, I'm happy I kept them.

    About Frye

    of New Styles!

Notify me when new styles of Frye are added to the website

Add This Brand to My Favorites
The Frye Company was founded in 1863 by John A. Frye, a shoemaker from England. Frye products have a long and illustrious history. Frye boots were worn by soldiers for both sides of America’s Civil War, soldiers in the Spanish-America war, and for Teddy Roosevelt and his Rough Riders. Many New England families during the mid and late 1800’s wore Frye boots as they pioneered across the country to the West.

Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.

In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.

The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

I ordered this boot in grey. Let me just say, this color is perfect. It's the gray/taupe color I never knew I was missing until I saw it! I can't imagine anyone not falling in love with the color at first sight! In Frye boots, I usually wear an 8; however, after reading reviews from lots of sites, I decided to order them in my normal 8.5. One of my friends ordered the boot in the saddle color in an 8. I tried to put hers on, but my right foot was a little too snug, so I'm glad I ordered the 8.5! Now for the (slight) cons. The gray boots had an overwhelming wax-like smell. I tried to air them out in the guest bedroom, but it just made that room smell like wax. (The saddle color smells perfectly of leather.) The other con is that it's not the most flattering boot. My calves are 14.25" at their widest, but the way the top of the boots fit, they looked huge. I ended up sending them back because of these two reasons, but am still tempted to order them again because the style and color are so perfect and unique and will be in style for decades to come!

I absolutely love these boots. I've had so much trouble finding boots that fit me because I have really wide athletic calves (17 inches around the widest part). I'd basically given up on finding tall boots that fit, but fell in love with these ones and figured I'd give them a shot (I heart Zappos shipping policy). I could actually get them on! They are a little big snug with my skinny jeans, but I'm assuming that the leather will stretch a tad as I wear them in. And with leggings or tights they feel just great. I'm normally a size 10, and my feet slip around a little, particularly in the heel area. I'm not sure it's a full half-size larger (I think the 9.5 might be too small for me), but it's definitely roomier than other Frye boots I've tried on. I bought them in Tan, although I was also really tempted by the Grey color. The tan is beautiful; it's sort of rustic looking and very unique. The color is lighter than most boots I've seen, though not quite as light as it looks in the photo. Fantastic boots, I'd definitely recommend them. If you have more slender calves (lucky!) though, you might be swimming in them a little.

I have read almost every review on this boot because I just could not decide what my new Frye boot was going to be for this season. I just got my Zappos box with these and they are GORGEOUS! I ordered the cognac color and it the most beautiful leather... BUT, sigh... sadness, they will be going back. The reviews about the top fanning out are true. I haven't ever given much thought to my ankles but I guess they might be skinnier than I thought because there really is a lot of room at the top of these boots for me. I keep trying them on in hopes that my calves have gotten a wee bit bigger for them to fit, but I just think it's like extra leather. The size for me was good. Although, after wearing them in my house, the heel does seem to have a bit more room and the leather isn't tight against my front calf, like maybe the Frye Chelsea riding boot, my next choice! I also read plenty reviews about the soles being thin, and they are definitely thinner than other Frye's I own. So sad to have to send them back as they are gorgeous but as you know if you're reading this, it has to be just right if your going to invest in a new Frye boot! Love Zappos for their great service and easy returns... onto the next boot!

I have larger calves, so I was worried when I was looking through boots trying to decide which to order. I love these boots! They fit perfectly and look amazing! I am a photographer and wore them for 13 hours the very first time I wore them and I was on my feet all day. They were comfy and felt great all day. Zero complaints. I wear between a 9-10 and I ordered a 9 and they are great!

Really good quality boot. Calf isn't as wide as some have reported, and ankle is kind of bunchy, but it's a good fit overall. I've gotten multiple compliments.

I love these boots! They are beautiful and incredibly comfortable. I have been looking for knee-high black boots for about two years and could never find any locally that weren't made out of plastic, worth the money, or were big enough to fit comfortably around my apparently "large" or "athletic" calves (these are the terms that I have learned over my search). Who knew that my legs were that big? Anyways, these boots fit incredibly comfortably, are knee high, and are gorgeous. I own another pair of Frye boots and can't say enough about how wonderful they are. I could not find these boots locally, so a huge thanks to Zappos for being awesome and helping end my search! If you have been looking for a beautiful pair of black boots, these are the boots for you!

These boots are awesome! So beautiful and definitely worth it. Since I'm on the short side (5'3"), I was a bit concerned they'd be too tall, but they hit in just the right spot below my knee. I decided to order half a size down from my normal size based off of other reviews and they ended up fitting perfectly. If you re waffling about whether or not to get them, go for it. You won t regret it!

I love these boots. I figured I could either buy a pair of $75 boots every year, or spend the money on these that will last forever. They are so well made; the leather is beautiful. At first try-on I thought they were a bit too motorcycle boot-ish but they have loosened up to a softer shape with only 2 or 3 wears. Highly recommend.

I'll have to say that I was really excited when I ordered this shoe, but ultimately disappointed when they arrived. Based on soles and overall condition, it was obvious that these were already worn by someone else who decided they did not want them. The soles were worn and the leather had scuff marks from wear and tear. Great quality, but did not feel they were worth the price. I'm definitely returning these.

I got these for my sister for Xmas, and she loves them! It's the perfect color for those who are stuck between black and brown and these are right in between! She absolutely loves them! Fit her true to size, and calf area was also perfect even for stuffing jeans...it's a probably she tends to have with tall boots.

I love these boots. However, you definitely need to order a 1/2 size down. I always wear an 8 and when I got the 8 they were to big. I returned and got the 7 1/2. The 7 1/2 fit perfectly... and with zapppo's free shipping and returns, it was so easy. Deff recommend these boots to all. Worth the $ and will last forever.

These boots are amazing. I ordered the saddle color and it is absolutely gorgeous and feels like butter. I have a larger calf and these fit perfectly, even over jeans (with room to spare!). They are tough to get on at first and you need help getting them off, but with each wear it gets easier. These are absolutely beautiful riding boots and I hope they will last me a long, long time! I would highly recommend them, especially to those looking for a classic, vintage looking riding boot. Even though they are pricey, nothing really compares to a Frye!

These are absolutely amazing shoes! They are a little snug at first, but like all Frye boots they take a bit to work in. They go with everything and are super comfortable. They did not have my usual size, so I went with an 8½ which worked great!
