I bought these boots in grey and from the minute I took them out the box I LOVED THEM!!! Many compliments when I wear them with leggings and super comfy. No need to break in. Runs true to size; I wear long thin boot socks or tights with these. The leather is soft; color variations on them gives them the "I had these for a long time look". Zappos service is great!

These boots are great! I ordered a 1/2 size down and they fit perfectly! When you get them, take a few minutes to scuff the bottoms because they\'re very slippery at first. These boots are roomy enough for jeans but also fit comfortably with leggings or tights. They\'re perfect for any fall and winter outfit!

These boots are great! I waited a year before I found the perfect riding boot. I bought these boots in saddle and love the color. The leather is unbelievably soft and took no time to break in. Everywhere I go I get compliments on them. Zappos also upgraded my shipping (for free) to over-night so I had the boots the next day! I am extremely satisfied with my boots as well as the service I received from Zappos.

I tried these on at Macy's just today. I thought that in person and on Zappos they looked quite fitted, but when I put them on, they really screamed "work boot!" I'm someone whose wardrobe consists of skirts and dresses because this skinny jean trend just isn't working for me, so I needed boots to keep my legs warm during the winter. But these boots are just way too casual and clunky looking to pair with anything I wear; my legs looked like inverted triangles! Or a peg leg! Maybe stick to wearing them with skinny jeans? Oh, and they were a major pain to get on, even though it was definitely my correct size once I got them on. Whoever mentioned having to get their husband pull them off of her feet at the end of the day was right!

Additional Brand Information

The Frye Company was founded in 1863 by John A. Frye, a shoemaker from England. Frye is the oldest continuously operating shoe company in the United States. Frye products have a long and illustrious history. Frye boots were worn by soldiers for both sides of America’s Civil War, soldiers in the Spanish-America war, and for Teddy Roosevelt and his Rough Riders. Many New England families during the mid and late 1800’s wore Frye boots as they pioneered across the country to the West.

Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.

In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.

The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

Super pleased! First Zappos shipped these free overnight; what a great surprise! I've been looking for the perfect pair of tall flat boots and have been drooling over these online, I finally bit the bullet and splurged and have no regrets. I got the dark brown. I ordered a half size down and was glad I did. I worked up a sweat trying to get them on (have a high arch and it can be a challenge with no zipper), but once there, in love. I will wear these for years to come. My only disappointments are that Frye is no longer made in the U.S., and that this pair may have been worn as the soles were scraped up, but not enough to return them. I may order these in the gray if I can find them in my size.

I needed a pair of black boots for a 3 week trip to Europe. As I knew I would be walking miles everyday I was looking for comfort and style. And these boots are the best!!!!!! I could fit skinny jeans and pants in and outside the boots, and I could walk miles with them immediately. Also, going through security at the airport was a breeze.\r\nI did read the blogs though and found out that a half size bigger was a good fit, and they were right!

Okay, so this is my third review. I mentioned before that they got soaked and the water damage never went away. I took them to a cobbler to get the water damage out. He did, but the lower part of the boot was now faded looking and a lighter color. He also told me that waterproofing these might change the color where it's applied. Since I have the tan ones, that was out of the question. I was so upset, I contacted Frye again and this time somebody got back to me and told them I could send them back for an exchange. I'm currently looking for another Frye boot to replace these with. Definitely not getting the Paige but something with more solid leather. The leather on these is very fine and delicate and will never withstand any kind of adverse weather conditions. Once again, if you plan to get the tan color, and wear them out in the rain I strongly urge you to reconsider. At least get a dark color that you can waterproof. Of course these aren't "rain boots", duh, but I live in NYC where it rains all fall and winter, and i cant worry about a little bit of water every time I wear them. If I spend this much on boots, I want to wear them all the time! Overall, I would give these a 4 star because they are cute, and comfortable. But beware of water damage, and get at least a half size smaller than your normal size. After wearing mine 5-6 times they stretched, and the 9 was way too big and I wear a 9.5!

I purchased these boots in grey and couldn't be happier. I usually wear a shoe size 8 or 8.5 and these fit me in a size 8. It's helpful to measure the height and circumference of your shins/calves prior to ordering Frye boots; Zappos provides these measurements. Please invest $5 (five dollars) in a can of leather weatherproofing spray from your local shoe repair shop and protect this investment. Read the one star review from the woman who got rained on in Europe; five dollars can save your boots. Also, if the boots are too slippery for you, just take them back to the shoe repair shop and get a rubber skid placed on the front sole of the boot. These are minor changes that seem to fix the few problems people find with these boots. These are my first pair of Frye boots and it has been money well-spent!

I have been carefully contemplating a pair of boots for some time. I am very particular and sensitive. I finally chose these boots and love them. I got them in grey. I carefully read the reviews below before my purchase, and here is my take: I normally wear an 8 1/2 or 9, so I got the 8 1/2 as everyone said they run big, and it fits perfectly. I don't think they are a full shoe size bigger. I don't find myself slipping at all with the sole when I am walking on sidewalks or the street. I sprayed them with a water repellent specifically for leather shoes that I have used before on boots and it works really well. I haven't been in wet weather with these yet, though. I don't anticipate using them as rain boots, however. They are very narrow and I have narrow feet. They were initially quite snug to get on, it took some pulling. But, after only wearing them once, the leather perfectly accommodated my foot. They are easy to get on and off now. I have a thin calf, and they are still cute. I wear them with pants and skirts. They are very comfortable to wear all day. Love them!

Beautiful and comfortable boots! I\'d been looking for the perfect flat leather boots for several years and had returned several pairs in my quest. I didn\'t even think Fryes were right for me. These ended up being the right ones. They work equally well with skinny pants and skirts/dresses and can definitely be worn all day comfortably. I get compliments on them wherever I go in them. Highly recommended!

I spent a lot of time looking at the various Frye options, and ultimately chose these for a few reasons. First, the calf is big enough to easily fit leggings, and even skinny jeans, without looking oversize or bulky. Second, the quality of the leather feels excellent. Third, they break in pretty easily and are really comfy! I have pretty wide feet, and these are working fine so far. I ordered them in a few different sizes, and ultimately went with a half size down from my usual.

The boots I have been waiting for! I am 5' 11" and have been searching for years for a boot that was not only tall enough, but wide enough to fit my 16 calf. Finally I found this boot and after thinking of purchasing it for 4 months, I decided to go for it and I love it! Frye makes a great high quality boot, the leather is soft and the boot is beautiful! I had no problem wearing it and fitting my jeans inside. I bought mine in a size 10 (which I normally wear) and it fits fine, I wouldn't go a half size down for fear that it may not fit my leg. The leather sole is slippery, but before I ever wore them outside I made sure to go to my local cobbler and have them place a rubber pad on the bottom and plastic tap on the heel so that it won't wear down. If you are thinking about getting these, go for it! Just be sure to take care of them, it's a high quality leather boot, not meant for the rain!

I wrote a review on these boots previously, before I ever really wore them. My opinion has changed drastically. I took them with me to Europe and wore them 2-3 times. One of the days it rained. The boots got completely soaked inside and out. It wasn't even major rain and I tried my best to avoid puddles. The right boot especially, was soaked after an hour. The water damage is irreversible. There are dark water lines all over the boots, and I gave them 2-3 days to dry. Still there. Also, the soles are super slippery even in dry weather, so I was constantly slipping and almost falling. What a nightmare. I was under the impression that these are high quality "rugged" boots, and for the price you would expect that. Not so. They are just like another other cheap shoe, and in fact none of my other boots ever got this wet out in the rain. When I contacted customer service at Frye they basically told me they are a "fashion" boot and not meant to be worn out in in the rain. Ridiculous! Unless you live in a desert where it never rains, don't buy these. Waste of money. Also they run about a size bigger. I wear a 9.5, and the 9 is too big for me. Spend your hard earned money elsewhere; don't ever buy Frye. This was a splurge for me, and I regret it.

I ordered these boots in tan, and I love them! The saddle color seemed too yellow; then tan is just what I was looking for, neutral and sophisticated. So comfortable, quick to break in and the leather is gorgeous. Definitely more roomy in the calves than other boots I've tried, but they fit perfect on me (5'8" with average-size legs). Tough to get on, but very comfortable. I'm usually a 9.5, but sized down to a 9 for a better fit. As always, props to Zappos for easy ordering and quick shipping!

These are very comfortable, stylish, run half size larger, well made. The sole might be a bit slippery on a rainy day. It's not easy to take them off; I ask my husband to pull them. If you are 8.5 or more, this kind of style, with the border around the shoe, could make your feet look larger, but not these shoes. These are the best!

Wow...these are the boots I have been looking for! I have tried on many flat black boots and they all seemed to bunch up around the ankles and look more like rainboots...not these! They fit terrific! I have also had trouble with boots fitting around my calves with jeans tucked in but I had no problem with these. Additionally, I got the boots earlier than expected...on the second business day! Overall a great experience!

I love these boots. I've been looking for the perfect boot for ever and I finally found them! I get compliments on them everywhere I go, even from men (who rarely ever notice what shoes a woman wears!). I wear them with leggings, jeans, even dresses and they always look hot! I recently wore them for the first time expecting them to pinch or hurt or rub against the heel which is what I get with most new shoes. These didn't hurt a bit. So comfortable. Maybe slightly bigger than actual size. I usually wear a 9.5 and the 9 fits me even with a thick sock. The leather is super soft, fits easily over my calf and into jeans (and I have a pretty big calf). Love the color (I got the tan ones). I hope they do okay in the snow and rain, for this price I expect them to, but that remains to be seen.
