The Frye Company was founded in 1863 by John A. Frye, a shoemaker from England. Frye products have a long and illustrious history. Frye boots were worn by soldiers for both sides of America’s Civil War, soldiers in the Spanish-America war, and for Teddy Roosevelt and his Rough Riders. Many New England families during the mid and late 1800’s wore Frye boots as they pioneered across the country to the West.

Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.

In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.

The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

I wanted to love these so badly - I've heard such good things about Frye boots that I decided to fork over the dollars for a good quality boot. The first thing I noticed when I opened the box - the boots smell like leather. Real leather. Like the smell of walking into a leather store. You can tell it's high quality. I first tried them on with bare legs (no pants) and the calf part is really wide. I feel I have pretty athletic calves, and there is lots of room to spare. However, when I tried them on with skinny jeans, they fit just perfect. The reasons why I have to return them is that they're too long (I'm 5'1" and they come up to my knees, which would make sitting uncomfortable and limit me to wearing them with short skirts). Second, just from walking around in them for a few minutes, I can tell these are not walking boots. Granted, I'm not planning on walking a marathon, but after a long day of walking around in the office/warehouse and maybe some errands during lunch, I can already tell from the hard inner soles that my toes would be sore from the pointy toes and my feet would be tired. I am definitely going to check out another pair and see if I can find a pair of Fryes to love.

This is my first pair of Frye boots. I had been in the market for a classic brown boot for a while and I think I've finally found it. This boot is elegant, high quality, and, most importantly, comfortable. I wore these the day after I received them for 5 hours- 4 of which I was on my feet- and had absolutely no problems. Clean, tight fit with no bagginess or slouch. Heel height is sexy without being "too much" for the office. I ordered a 10, which is my normal size in boots and it fit beautifully. Love it and hope it will last for years to come.

I love these boots! I got my normal size, which is always a gamble with boots. I have room to wear socks, so if you don't live in a place that gets cold enough for this, go down half a size.

The most comfortable boots ever! This is my third pair of Fryes, and they don't disappoint ever! They have considerable high heel, but due to the platform inside, they are super comfortable, I am able to wear them all they with no sign of fatigue usually associated to high heeled shoes!

I'd also recommend: Camper
