The Frye Company was founded in 1863 by John A. Frye, a shoemaker from England. Frye products have a long and illustrious history. Frye boots were worn by soldiers for both sides of America’s Civil War, soldiers in the Spanish-America war, and for Teddy Roosevelt and his Rough Riders. Many New England families during the mid and late 1800’s wore Frye boots as they pioneered across the country to the West.

Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.

In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.

The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

My commute includes a lot of walking, and I'm always struggling to find shoes that are comfortable enough for the hike but with a high enough heel that my dress pants don't drag. Think I've found a winner in these. They crack me up. From the front they're city-slicker wingtips, but from the back they're all cowboy. I got the bordeaux, but I'd describe the color as auburn, a medium reddish brown, no purple. They look narrow, but I ended up with a 7.5, despite my wide-ish foot. They did need a little breaking-in time. My first pair of Frye's, probably won't be my last.

I ordered these in the slate color and they fit entirely differently than my other Maggie Perfs (in dusty rose and mustard vachetta). They are much stiffer, too narrow in the footbed, and not at all comfortable. Maybe I just received an off pair. In any case, these are going back. Thanks, Zappos, for your great return policy!

Gorgeous shoes, I usually wear a size 9 but ordered down to 8.5 which was a perfect fit. If you don't own a pair of Maggie wingtip, you should order one. You won't regret it, it's very comfortable.

I usually wear a 7.5 N and the 7.5 was too large. I got a 7M and it fits great. Love the shoe! It's not too wide and I can wear it with either thin or thick socks. If you have a really wide foot you might find them too narrow.

These are the ultimate oxfords. I have this style in three colors and I cannot get enough of wearing them. Enough said.

I'd also recommend: Lucky Brand, OTBT, Born

I feel very lucky to have found the only size eleven in the turquoise! Wow, the color is a tad lighter in person. But beautiful nonetheless. This shoe is so like a boot, because of the stable heel and construction. After looking and comparing it to the Carson boot I have. We determined that this shoe is very similar in the foot area. The fit is about the same also. More definitely for the narrow foot, as most Frye styles.

I'd also recommend: Frye
