The Frye Company was founded in 1863 by John A. Frye, a shoemaker from England. Frye products have a long and illustrious history. Frye boots were worn by soldiers for both sides of America’s Civil War, soldiers in the Spanish-America war, and for Teddy Roosevelt and his Rough Riders. Many New England families during the mid and late 1800’s wore Frye boots as they pioneered across the country to the West.

Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.

In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.

The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

Gorgeous boot: lovely leather, great color, beautiful design. The boot was quite comfortable, its construction appeared to be solid, and the fit on my foot seemed perfect. Unfortunately, I had to send them back because the shaft was far too wide for my midsized legs, which looked sloppy and would probably only look sloppier with time when the slouch began to kick in. I am 5'2" and the rear part of the top hit right at the bend of my knee, which I imagine would be uncomfortable and irritating if I were to try to cross my legs in them, so this boot is probably best suited for taller or longer-legged women! Additionally, despite what the stitching on the synthetic/rubber forepart of the outsole suggests in the photos, close inspection of the way the sole is attached to the upper indicates that the boot probably cannot be resoled, which may be of importance for those seeking long-term return on this investment. I was REALLY hoping these boots would work, but for the price, an excessively loose fit around most of my leg and an outsole that can't be replaced just won't do!

These are beautiful boots. I would like them in a neutral suede next. They are more casual than I thought they would be, but that is ok.

Quality, beautiful, comfortably, stylish boot. Got the whiskey and the darker brown, thought I'd like the darker better but no...Frye boots are well made and super comfortable. This is another example. They fit perfectly and love how you can wear them up or folded over. Nice thickness on the leather - but not too much. Not my first Frye boots and won't be my last. The shaft is not snug but since there is no zipper it is just the right size to allow jeans down in, I don't have an issue with it falling down.

These boots are worth every penny. The leather is gorgeous, they look very sexy on and the heel is low enough to wear all day. They're my new go to boot. I expect to get years - if not decades of wear from them.

These are the first boots that I have owned and I have many, that I can honestly say they feel like house slippers. Will be ordering the brown next.

I'd also recommend: Daniel Pliner
