Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.
In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.
The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

Love my Fryes. I've been eyeing a pair for years in fear my calves won't fit and just overall comfort is a huge factor. Well, I love my Janes and received the vintage brown. About me, 5'2" so here we go: The Fit: the boot hits about 2 inches below my knee without the top of the boot touching the back of my knee. When you're short, this can be an issue. My calf is average width and the shaft fits perfect. I'm surprised there are no reviews that state that these boots feel like pair of clogs. I'm a huge Dansko clog lover so for a pair of boots to fit like a clog is amazing. I wear either a 7 or 7.5 in most shoes and the 7 fits great. A tad loose in the heel and plenty of room for your toes with thicker socks. The color is gorgeous. The vintage brown has black, brown, and reddish tones that make it easy to mix and match with my wardrobe. Looks great with dresses, skirt, and my new "jeggings" (recommend the Levis - they are tight but comfy and wallet friendly) fit just right tucked in. I did go to a cobbler to get some rubber soles added as leather bottoms tend to get slippery in the rain. Overall, exceptional quality on the craftsmanship and a beautiful investment. These boots are definitely worth the money. Doing a little jig in my Fryes.

I returned these. I'm 5'2, wear a size 6, and am a runner. I by no means have large calves, just short legs. The top of the boot hit at the widest part of my calf and was very tight. While I could get my feet in and probably could have stretched them out, it wasn't worth it. The foot bed was too big anyway and no way could I have gone down in size with as tight as the top part was. They are cute boots but not right if you're short and have any muscle at all in your calves!

I originally bought these in an 8½ (which is what I typically wear in Frye) and I could not get my foot into them. So, I exchanged them for a size 9 and they were perfect! The first time I wore them, I had them on for hours and walked miles. They are extremely comfortable and it definitely does not feel like you are wearing heels. The redwood is absolutely gorgeous and literally go with everything. I wear a size 4/6, but I am very athletic and have had issues in the past finding boots with a wide enough circumference. The 9's width is about 15½" which is perfect for tucking in jeans. They look awesome with leggings, jeans, dresses, or anything else. I am in love.

So disappointed. I ordered my usual 8.5 for Frye and I could not even get my foot into these. Maybe because I have a high arch? They do look like they run smaller than other Frye styles. The redwood is beautiful. I exchanged these for a 9. Keeping my fingers crossed!

Finally found my dress up (or down) boots! Yea! Not my first choice (main love was the Carmen 14, but alas it had a weird lower calf). Also, questioned if the Jane Stitch would fit around my 15+" calves, but decided to give it a try. Glad I did. Heel height and fit through the feet is similar to the Carmen. Shaft height is perfect for my 5'9" height and calf area fits well. Leather is not as lovely as the Carmen, but still very nice. Thought a pull on would be a hassle and difficult, but boot slips on easily. No break-in time has been needed. Bit of heel slippage, but not a problem. Ordered two pairs to compare fit. One pair seemed too loose, but the other pair fits great. I got the black and would love to get the redwood too if finances allowed. I'm happy!
I'd also recommend: other Fryes and Dansko

In LOVE with these boots! I had originally received the Frye Melissa as a gift and love them, but wanted a little higher heel. The Janes are PERFECT! I normally wear a size 8.5 and have an VERY high arch. I ordered an 8.5 and at first they were a little challenging to get my foot all of the way in. With the help of the loops that are on the inside of the boot, I got them on and they fit great. I got the dark brown color and they are gorgeous. You can't go wrong with Frye boots. They are stylish and very durable. LOVE THEM!
