I originally bought these in an 8½ (which is what I typically wear in Frye) and I could not get my foot into them. So, I exchanged them for a size 9 and they were perfect! The first time I wore them, I had them on for hours and walked miles. They are extremely comfortable and it definitely does not feel like you are wearing heels. The redwood is absolutely gorgeous and literally go with everything. I wear a size 4/6, but I am very athletic and have had issues in the past finding boots with a wide enough circumference. The 9's width is about 15½" which is perfect for tucking in jeans. They look awesome with leggings, jeans, dresses, or anything else. I am in love.

So disappointed. I ordered my usual 8.5 for Frye and I could not even get my foot into these. Maybe because I have a high arch? They do look like they run smaller than other Frye styles. The redwood is beautiful. I exchanged these for a 9. Keeping my fingers crossed!

These are a gift from my husband. I have been wanting these boots for a long time. The boots are just beautiful; leather, stitching, heel, everything. Usually wearing a size 10, I got these in a 9.5 based on ratings. The 9.5 is snug in socks, a 10 may be better, but if I don't get a 10, the 9.5 will stay. These boots are worth the price and Zappos shipping is amazing! Bought at 8pm and received before 11am the next day. Wow!

I absolutely love Zappos! I ordered these on December 23rd and they arrived before noon on the 24th without a hitch. That being said I ordered both the redwood leather and the black leather that was in my normal half size smaller Frye's size of 8½ with the intention of only keeping one pair. I am walking around the house with one on each foot (tough to get into for my high arches but they are already stretching as I wear them) and I like the black a lot more than I thought I would (no distressing just sold black with wood heel), but I also love the redwood which reminds me of saddle leather. I have tried on a few outfits and they both go with all of them. So I definitely do not need to keep both, but I am going to sleep on it, they may both stay. I love the height, I am 5'10" and often boots are too short, but this pair comes to 3-4 inches below my knee. The heel height is fantastic at about 2 inches. This is a good investment for boots that will last forever.

I ordered Redwood, which I would consider a dark cognac (so lighter than the picture, and not quite as brown) - a very nice and versatile color that goes with just about everything. The shaft of the boot is quite a good width. I have size 10 feet, and the 10 fit perfectly, whereas some 10s seem a bit small at times. (Compared to other Frye 10 boots, I think this runs a little larger.) Anyway, the shaft fits nicely over jeans, and the ankle is still not too loose. After a few wears, the leather loosens in this area, and it does slouch a bit. But they still maintain a nice shape. The padded footbed makes all the difference in the world. These are leaps and bounds more comfortable than my other Fryes. Why didn't they add this feature sooner?! I can tell they will wear well; the construction looks even better than my previous Frye boots. The price is a bit steep, but I got mine on another site at a discount. I can see myself wearing them a lot and would definitely say that they are worth it if you want a boot that will last a while. My Steven Intyce boots from last year looked "vintage" (read: crappy) after only a month. So for half the price, you can expect half the quality of what you will get with the Frye Jane.

The Frye Company was founded in 1863 by John A. Frye, a shoemaker from England. Frye products have a long and illustrious history. Frye boots were worn by soldiers for both sides of America’s Civil War, soldiers in the Spanish-America war, and for Teddy Roosevelt and his Rough Riders. Many New England families during the mid and late 1800’s wore Frye boots as they pioneered across the country to the West.

Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.

In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.

The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

Love my Fryes. I've been eyeing a pair for years in fear my calves won't fit and just overall comfort is a huge factor. Well, I love my Janes and received the vintage brown. About me, 5'2" so here we go: The Fit: the boot hits about 2 inches below my knee without the top of the boot touching the back of my knee. When you're short, this can be an issue. My calf is average width and the shaft fits perfect. I'm surprised there are no reviews that state that these boots feel like pair of clogs. I'm a huge Dansko clog lover so for a pair of boots to fit like a clog is amazing. I wear either a 7 or 7.5 in most shoes and the 7 fits great. A tad loose in the heel and plenty of room for your toes with thicker socks. The color is gorgeous. The vintage brown has black, brown, and reddish tones that make it easy to mix and match with my wardrobe. Looks great with dresses, skirt, and my new "jeggings" (recommend the Levis - they are tight but comfy and wallet friendly) fit just right tucked in. I did go to a cobbler to get some rubber soles added as leather bottoms tend to get slippery in the rain. Overall, exceptional quality on the craftsmanship and a beautiful investment. These boots are definitely worth the money. Doing a little jig in my Fryes.

I am head over heels for these boots. I do not want to ever take them off. Wore them for the 1st time yesterday, came home, changed into my jammie shorts and a tank top but kept the boots ON! It was a big splurge for me so I had high hopes and they've lived up to every one! I'm 6' and wear size 11 - I bought 11s and they fit perfect, so I'm glad I didn't go down to a ten. There's a bit of heel slippage, but I don't see it as a problem, I like to have a little room for my foot - they don't feel like they'll fall off or anything and don't chafe. Completely comfortable from the get go, no breaking in time. The dark brown will match everything, can wear it to work or just out and about. Haven't had a compliment in years and had a ton about how great these boots make my legs look in the just the last day and a half! LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE.

Thanks Zappos! I bought these boots on a Saturday and was upgraded to faster delivery courtesy of Zappos and received them on Monday night! I initially bought the Frye Melissa boots, but the shaft of the boot was too tall for me (as I am only 5’2). I returned those and bought these in redwood and looove them. I just turned 30 and wanted a "grown up, womanly" boot. These are it, I feel chic when wearing them. I am between a 6.5 and a 7 and bought the 6.5 and they are perfect. They look good tucked into skinny jeans and the height of the boot was just perfect. It hit about an inch below my knee. Despite the fact that they have a heel, they were comfortable upon first wear. I did get a scuff already on the toe of the boot and I wish Frye would make a coloured cream so that it could cover the scuff, but that’s my only complaint. As with my other Fryes, they will only get better with age and are an investment piece.

Great boot! The color is more a dark brownish/blackish with some reddish and if that makes sense? Very comfortable and is a great every day boot! I am a solid 8 but usually size down a half size with Frye.

I did a ton of research before I made this purchase. And the other reviews helped me so much; I felt I should leave my own comments too! I am 5'4", size 9 shoe and size 8 (29) jean. With very "athletic" calves I really struggle to find the perfect boot... and I was thinking I would need the extended calf version. (Jane 14L) The Verdict? I am extremely happy with these boots! The regular shaft fits snugly over skinny jeans, they come to about 2 inches below my knee, and the medium heel is very sturdy and provides a welcome little "boost". The leather is beautiful and they look like they will last forever. A perfect balance between an equestrian, cowboy and city boot! Love, love, love. Thanks for the great service Zappos... it took about 4 tries, but finally!

I just received my boots in the Redwood color yesterday and they are gorgeous. Having owned 4 other pairs of Frye's, I decided to order a 7.5 instead of my normal size 8. I think I could've used my normal size; however I'm pleased with the fit since I know it will stretch more. The shaft is comfortable and I'm 5'7" with average calves. The footbed is where the narrowness comes into play. I might have the width stretched by a cobbler, but the length is good. Wouldn't recommend for someone with very skinny legs.

Great boots, Western meets fashion. I think that they look great with anything. I have small calves, about 13 ½ inches, so they are very roomy but I will wear them with skirts. I have ordered a 7 1/2 my regular size and thought that they might me a little big, so I got a 7 instead. I was wrong, the 7s were too tight on my foot, the length was still okay. I am keeping the 7 1/2, the color is gorgeous.

Love these! They're comfortable without insoles, and I normally refuse to wear heels, but these feel great. The color (redwood) is gorgeous, goes with everything. Leather is thick and high quality. I can dress them up or down, and they don't look too cowboyish, as I was worried they would. I took them to my cobbler and added rubber soles, and had them stretched a couple places (I have larger calves, maybe 16" circumference). No blisters, no break-in time. I waterproof them with a spray rather than an oil, which would soften the leather. I think these will last for years!

This boot is absolutely beautiful and the Redwood color is perfect. I love how thick the leather upper is and the substantial leather sole. Unfortunately, the boot does not taper at the ankle and it looks too much like galoshes or wide boots. I am 5'5" and 118lbs, so they swallowed me. They would be great with jeans tucked in, but I wanted a casual tall boot that looked good with leggings also. Too wide for my skinny legs. The leather on the Frye Jane boot is incredible. If you are considering it, buy it and try it on at home. I wish it had worked for me.

These are my first Frye boots and I love them! I got them in the Slate leather and I can wear them with anything. People even stop me on the street to ask me about them. They can be worn with leggings, skinny jeans and with boot cut jeans too! They are so comfortable that I can dance all night in them. Favorite pair of shoes and I love shoes!

I love these boots! They were comfortable right out of the box. I've worn them with skinny jeans tucked in and have gotten compliments every time I wear them. I have had trouble finding boots that fit my calf (I don't have big legs, just not skinny calves), but these are great. I will get many years of wear I'm sure!

I love these boots. I have wanted them for a year and I finally took the plunge and ordered them. They are gorgeous. They are wide enough to tuck in skinny jeans or leggings, and narrow enough to wear with bare legs and a skirt or under boot cut jeans. I have received numerous compliments on these boots. They are just the right blend of cowboy and stylish. I wish I had bought them earlier. I can tell I will be wearing these boots for years. Very high quality. Simply stunning.
