The cut and style of this boot is great. Just what I was looking for. But the distressed look is pretty cheesy with gunky white wax all over to make it look worn in. But they just look dirty and dull. Wished they'd let each person wear them in the ways they liked. The sizing is also way smaller and narrower than given. I take a size 10, but couldn't get into one. The width is also so narrow I had to go to an 11 to make it all fit. Be warned that the bottom is leather with no rubber, so they are dangerous in wet icy weather. In short they were built for a fashion model in a photo studio, rather than for real people using them outdoors in all-weather life. They look nice, but be careful...

These are great looking boots that can be worn with most non-business attire. This is my second pair within 2 weeks of each other. This pair in black fit a little tighter than the beige/sand ones. Be careful: the bottoms are very slippery on carpeted surfaces. Overall, a quality shoe with good construction. Not a value priced product but rather a long term investment.

After the initial breaking in these boots are awesome. They are super good quality and they stretch the gamut from cool and jeans to more sophisticated and work (but still cool).

This boot is one of the most comfortable boots I have ever worn. However, the pictures and description are a bit deceiving. The distress of the leather makes the upper more grey than black, and what looks like shine on the sole is actually splattered white coloring. I was extremely displeased with this when I first got them out of the box. But after a bit of black shoe polish and wearing them for a month, they look much better. Frye Boots have done nothing but impress me with their comfort and craftsmanship for years, and these boots have been no exception.

About Frye
Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.
In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.
The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

Boot needed little break-in time. Very soft, comfortable leather, which is why you pay more money than cheaper boots and shoes.I have slightly wide feet, but this boot was no problem.Soles are slippery, but the partial rubber heals adds some stability.

I have four pair of Frye boots and this is the first pair I can't recommend. They will not break in after repeated attempts of shoe cream and painful wearing to get the very stiff leather around the toe to soften. When I questioned Frye about the issue they had no answer other than to break them in. You think Frye?

Boots were very tight and felt too small out of the box. After about two days of suffering they are perfect, they just need to stretch and mold to feet. Great pair of boots, love the classic look.

I debated for a while whether to spend the money on these boots or spend less on another. I am very happy I finally ended up buying them! I love these boots, they fit well and look great with jeans or slacks. I was also worried about about which size to buy, but with Zappos free return shipping I was put at ease. I felt they were true to size.

Excellent boot. A very constructed boot, but not stiff like some. I normally wear a size 12 but ordered 11.5 perfect fit. I've owned Frye boots before and am pleased to say quality is still a Frye hallmark.

I went with the brown ones. Ordered a half size down (went with my Chuck Taylor size) and shoes fit fine except for being tight around where the tongue is sewn onto the rest of the shoe. I suspect this won't be a problem for others as I have very high arches. I must say though that with just two days of wear they are already starting to break in and are much more comfortable than when I received them. The only thing I have to say is that I wish the sole was a bit better. The heel on my pair is already showing signs of wear and they are very slick on carpet. Other than that they are good boots, just don't expect to be able to wear them in wet icy weather.

My feet are a little wide and these felt narrow for the first 15 minutes or so but they seemed to stretch very quickly, now I can even use them with a relatively thicker sock. I was looking for a classic dress boot and this definitely fits the bill, hip and casual enough for Brooklyn and classy enough for Manhattan, not the best for walking on black ice but should be fine for any and all other conditions.

Great looking boot. Comfortable straight out of the box. The sole is a smooth leather. So, it can be a bit slippery. This is my second pair of Frye boots. Quality is high. Will buy Frye again from Zappos.

These are great boots - the shape and styling is excellent. You can wear them casually or dress them up a bit as well. My only complaint is that the color was a bit lighter than I expected due to the faux pre-distressing. There was a lot of waxing that made certain parts of the boot lighter colored than I would have liked (I ordered the brown pair). I used some dark brown shoe polish on the shoes, and they now look absolutely perfect. So, if you aren't pleased with the color of the boots when you get them, you can definitely use polish with great results. Highly recommended.

I got the brown leather for this pair and it does not look brown, rather more like gray. But as it is worn, I applied the brown shoe polish and I am liking the look of it. I ordered three in black and one in brown just to check out the fit and returned those three black pairs. As always, Zappos' service is five stars.
