I bought these for my boyfriend for Xmas. He loves them. He says they are the perfect boot. Comfortable the first time he put them on. And they are a great cross between rugged and stylish. The good news is they seem to be able to hold up to all the wear and tear they will get with everyday wear.

I like the waxed finish and the outside quality was good. I wish the inside leather was finished better and had a cushioned sole.

Good boot. The inside could have been finished a little better. It takes a bit more work to get in/out of them. I would say relatively true to size. I wear a 11 in regular shoes and got these in a 10.5 and they fit perfect. I ordered the tan color and it is a bit more of a neutral brown (unlike the bright tan pictured). Totally pleased though it looks like the boot will last forever. I gave the overall 3 stars just because of the getting in and out of them.

I have been wearing these boots for nearly six months straight now, and I am completely in love. Never before have I so appreciated something as basic as footwear. I actually came back to the product here on Zappos to order a spare pair just in case they ever die and I cannot find a replacement, only to find they were out of stock, and realized they deserved a review. The style is, well, perfect. A simple, classic looking design without garish accents or stitching. The black leather has so much subtle character out of the box that wears well and always looks great. The texture is soft yet firm, a pleasure to handle. They live up to every day wear quite well, taking the dings and scratches of my active nigh life in stride. I was worried about the side zip, as I have had boots fail there before, but these seem to be traveling just fine and have not jammed yet. They never seem to hold a negative odor, in fact they still have the sweet smell of premium leather. Every time I don these boots, which is nearly every day, I feel like a rock star, and receive compliments on them about every other week. A couple things to consider with this boot: I suggest a good hiking sock (I use the light, summer variety here in Texas). They have never seemed too hot. Although the zipper is holding up well, it is still a good idea to treat it with a little care. Hold the top of the boot up firm before moving the zipper to give a straight path. I have had the sensation of almost slipping nearly a dozen times in this boot, yet for some reason I always catch my self on my heels. I believe this is because of the rubber pad at the back of the heel. Whatever the issue is I have yet to fall in them, even on a wet dance floor. These are my first Frye shoes, and they have impressed me so much that I am gong to start picking up some of their other classic styles. The price tag scared me off at first, but I now believe they are worth every penny. So much in fact that I am going to stockpile a pair or two.

Great boot. This is my second pair of Frye boots, they last forever and always look great after a polish. If it scares you to buy a leather soled boot due to weather (I live in WI), take them to a cobbler and have a real thin Vibram rubber sole put on them. Works out great.

It took me two pairs to get perfect boots but Zappos is amazing with their returns and their fast shipping! My first pair had stitching problems, but I am a perfectionist. I found a couple places where the stitching didn't come in contact with the leather, on the outside and on a small strip on the inside of the zipper. I also saw some brown thread coming through on the outer leather when it should have been all black. It sounds like Frye is a great company with a lot of tradition so I'm sure this was just a fluke. I called Zappos and they sent me out a replacement that morning and it arrived the same day! No joke! They boots arrived that night! I also got upgraded to VIP status so all my future orders will be 1 day shipping. The boots are made from really quality material and I love the leather soles. It's hard to find leather soles nowadays. I've only worn them one day but I already love them. I've had two compliments in the first night I went out. They just look cool and have a nice waxy grayish black leather. It's more charcoal gray than it is black. The photos make them look more black. I think they will just look better and better as they break in. They have a nice leather smell right out of the box. The heels are not as high as cowboy boots, which is nice in my opinion and easier to walk in. Look great with jeans and probably would look great with khaki pants. I would buy these again, but hopefully no one else experiences any stitching problems. The only reason I'm giving these four stars is due to the stitching on the first pair. If you do have any problems, rest assured that Zappos will take care of you! I really do feel like a VIP with this company!

I know Frye boots have a great reputation, and this pair has not disappointed. With the exception of being a little stiff and rubbing around my ankle the first couple of times, they broke in quickly shortly thereafter. I'm also a drummer, and the soles of this particular style are perfect for working the kick-pedals.

Got the boots and really like the shape and feel of the boot. They seem like they'll be amazing when they're broken in. But these are not black! They have a distress-wash on them that gives them a whitish finish. It's also on the edges of the sole. My shoe guy says he can oil them to get rid of it, so I'm going to keep them. That's the reason for 3 stars. This should have been mentioned in the description and the photo should show the real finish. One other thing -- based on the reviews, I went a half size up but they're too big. Should have stuck with my size.

This is my second pair of Frye's. I also have the James Wingtip. My Wingtips are awesome, very comfortable and have held up well with frequent use. I ordered these boots in the same size and have been wearing them regularly for about 2 weeks. They still feel quite snug, and after a full day I'm relieved to get them off my feet. I did order a half-size larger at the same time, but those slipped a lot in the heel when I walked and Frye recommends if you're not sure to go with a half-size down, so I did. I'm still hoping that after a more extensive break-in that these will be as wonderfully comfortable as my Wingtips are, but only time will tell. Quality is what you would expect from Frye, although there are a couple small spots on one boot where the stitching is loose (inside the top edge and at the tip of the sole).

On arrival the left boot has a scuffed sole and a minor flaw in the leather. The right boot was okay, but very tight, and still is. After wearing them numerous times they are stretching, but I still use moleskin to protect my feet. Now the zipper on the left boot is detaching from the leather.
