Well, I have to say, I am not happy. One of the boots is a little too small. I even went a to a retail store afterwards and tried on another pair similar style that is hard to find which is why I mail ordered and found indeed the boot is possibly made wrong. I have been waiting to see if it will stretch and break in but concerned as to comfortable fit. If I had gone retail I would have noticed this right away. Now the trouble of contacting company, returning, traveling a lot currently and have no way of getting this accomplished easily. Maybe customer service can contact me as to possible way to easily replace the boot as I do love them if they fit. THey are heavy and well made, will take a while to break in but will last a long time.

I'd been eying these boots for a while when I finally decided to get them. There was an issue with pricing that my customer service rep, Rene, did a wonderful job clearing up. The were shipped to me in no time flat and I was wearing them a couple of days after I ordered them. These boots are very comfortable and the quality is great. They have the harness style that is in right now, but Frye has made these boots for decades. The only warning I would have is to make sure you get a good pair of socks that doesn't fall down and a nice big shoe horn to help getting them on.

I was a little concerned by the reviews stating the boots fit wide feet well as my feet are narrow. I ordered my normal size and the boots fit fine. They are not snug across the top / sides of my foot but I am not swimming in them either. I like to wear boots with thick socks, so if you like your boots to fit snug or like thin socks you might want to go down a half size. They are beautiful boots and very well made. I really like the sort of distressed appearance and classic styling.

Additional Brand Information

The Frye Company was founded in 1863 by John A. Frye, a shoemaker from England. Frye is the oldest continuously operating shoe company in the United States. Frye products have a long and illustrious history. Frye boots were worn by soldiers for both sides of America’s Civil War, soldiers in the Spanish-America war, and for Teddy Roosevelt and his Rough Riders. Many New England families during the mid and late 1800’s wore Frye boots as they pioneered across the country to the West.

Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.

In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.

The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

Gorgeous boots! Very sturdy, very stylish. I love the square toe and the harness ring. These look great with my favorite jeans and with dresses and skirts as well. I have very large calves and these fit great. They are not too narrow and I usually need wide widths. I am very pleased with these boots.

I've wanted to buy these boots for three years. I have not been disappointed. Very classic clean cut, looking very good with my favorite jeans. They are a little hard in the beginning, so you definitely need a good pair of socks, but they look like they are going to last forever. Thank you. Your fan and future customer!

What fun. I grew up with Frye Boots, now my daughter loves them. Last forever. Even though some other styles of Frye boots run big, I ordered this style my daughter's true size and they fit perfect. She wears them with everything from jeans to her kilt she wears for school! Order them; you will love the look!

I love these boots. Very well made and durable, just like Frye has always been. I ordered a half size smaller (8 and 1/2 instead of my usual size 9) and they fit perfect. I have narrow feet so there was no problem at all with the fit. I love these boots!

This is the most money I have ever spent on a pair of shoes, but the second I put them on my feet, all worry and regret flew out the window! they were comfortable from the start, and become softer and more perfect with every wear. the craftsmanship is impeccable, and I know I'll be wearing these for so many years. they look great, even though I have sort of wide-ish calves. I normally wear a true size nine, and thats what size I ordered these in, since most reviewers say they tend to run a little big and i wanted to wear thick socks in our new england winters. I actually find that the nine fits really well as it is, with regular thickness socks. In boots like these, your heel is supposed to slip up and down, it does not mean they are too big! These boots are so rugged, without looking dumpy or masculine. I'm in love! Oh, and per usual, shipping from Zappos was lightning fast!

As a long-time admirer of Frye boots, these were my first pair and I love them! They are true to a western boot fit - meaning that I ended up having to get a half size down than my normal shoe size. I have wider feet, but after some initial tightness, the boot broke in within a week of wearing. The two pairs I ordered (wrong size first time) were pretty different in color due to the nature of suede, but otherwise they were as the photo presents them. They look great with pants tucked in, worn out, and with skirts - stylish enough for urban wear, too.

You can't go wrong with Frye - I've had these boots for a year now and overall, they're great! Based on other reviews, I bought them in my true size. I have a narrow foot, so the boots are a bit roomy, but I feel that 1/2-size smaller would have been too small. I purchased a leather insole to take up the extra room. Having the insoles also work out well because they keep my feet from getting sweaty. Even with my narrow foot, they're like the devil to put on and take off. One other comment is that I feel the rubber heel wears too fast, even though I wear them only a few times a month. Regardless of any short-comings, these are very good boots, which I wholly recommend.

Yes, yes, yes - I am not usually a person that gushes over material objects, but these boots have changed my life... OK well, I love them, anyway. They do sort of change how you walk though 'cause they are heavy and force your heel down first. Plus, they fit me perfectly, so I don't understand how they can fit others well as I have a low volume foot.

These are cute but not as cute as they looked online. A bit bulky in the toe area. The size was a little short so maybe order a half size larger. The heel was too stiff and rubbed me raw just trying them on but I have a narrow heel and a regular foot so it’s not uncommon for me. The calf size was great and they are easy to put on/take off. Seemed warm.

One Great Boot!! I really love this boot. It was comfortable on Day One and gets better every day. I have a narrow to normal width foot, it fits perfectly everywhere. If you are normally between half-sizes, go with the smaller size.

Beautiful boot - The toe is a little too tight and the heel is a little too loose, but I love this boot. It's gorgeous and with thin wool socks I can put up with slight fit problems.

Love my new boots! The fit is a little different than what I am accustomed; however, they are comfortable. I wear them with a heavier sock to add comfort. I ordered a 1/2 size smaller than my regular shoes and they fit great. They rock!

This is a very well made shoe. I would not recommend it if you wear a lot of boot cut jeans. I am very picky and do not like to see the boot line on the outside of my jeans. I refuse to tuck my jeans into the boots. My socks slip off in these as well. They are comfortable but not for a long period of time. This is an extremely sturdy boot, but if I could have designed these myself I would have made the opening of the boot smaller(tighter to the leg). I would have returned them but I have worn them several times.

I love these boots! I am 54 and my 27-yr old daughter has these also. Comfortable and stylish for any age. Have gotten many compliments when wearing them (from people of all ages). My daughter and I both had to exchange the first pair received for a half-size smaller; therefore, I would recommend ordering a smaller size than you normally wear.

Great looking boot, but small toe box - These boots are really great looking and well made, but the fit is problematical. The leather is very hard and the toe box unusually narrow. I am always a standard B width and these definitely run narrow. I have had them stretched, but they are going to take a while to break in. Also be prepared for heel slippage. Although the toe is narrow, the heel is wide. Also wish the sole/heel were wood instead of rubber.
