Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.
In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.
The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

I have owned these boots for ten years. I have worn them in the Colorado River and in the snow in Michigan. I have been in thick clay and climbed the mountains in them. have worn with shorts; skirts; and tights. Worn them in all seasons. Sexy as all hell. People come up to me in airports and ask about these boots. I got them in less than 24 hours from Zappos. I have never worn them with socks. I love these boots. I am 58 years old. I will treasure these all my life.

These look awesome and are definitely well made... but the fit was horrible... my five year old had to pull on them to help me get them off! Way too narrow. These didn't run big for me at all; they ran small, unfortunately. They will be going back. :(

These boots are fabulous! Order a 1/2 size down or you'll just be exchanging them later. The tan is even more beautiful in person. I'd recommend buying the Frye weatherproof spray and treating them before wearing. Also, some people said that they were concerned about the heel slipping. All cowboy boots should have some heel slippage, and if they don't, then they're too small. The slippage gives your foot room when you walk, and with time, the leather will soften and slippage will be less. So if your heel slips a little as you walk, it doesn't mean it's too big. It means it's just right.

I have been obsessed with these boots for years and finally took the plunge and purchased them. I absolutely love them but I think it's important to note that these boots are made to last a lifetime and as such, they are thick, heavy, and take a long time to break in. However, they are a fabulous addition to any wardrobe and I get a ton of compliments on them every time I wear them. And I plan on wearing them for years to come!

I love these boots and have them in my regular size in the tan. All my boots are classic Fryes and when Frye gets it right, they are fantastic, but I have found that I've had to kiss a lot of frogs to find my princes! Frye quality control is absolutely shameful. I have the 8R version of this boot, and had to order five pairs to see which fit best and which had the best leather. On some of the boots, the leather was just nasty, thin, wrinkled and sub standard. I've also had pairs of Fryes where there was a clear difference in the height of each boot! I once contacted the company about this, but sadly, it would seem that they don't stand by their products.

Love the boots! A real pain in the A$$ to get on and off. I'm hoping that gets easier as the boots get "worn in". Great once they are on.
