Sturdy low boot - I actually have the Frye Engineer 12"R, which are an inch or two taller than these 8Rs. The fit, material, construction & general style are the same. These are sturdy boots made with thick leather, straight stitching, and overall, construction that feels solid and durable. I justified the price of purchase by the fact that my sister's Fryes have held up for 8 years and are going strong-- I expect mine to as well. Fit-wise, I'm wearing a 6 with thin socks. With most shoes, I wear a 7. They feel snug around the forefront of my widish feet, but they don't hurt, and I expect the leather to wear in/stretch a little bit. There is arch support, but it's a little farther back than you'll find in most shoes, so it may feel weird at first. THEY ARE A PAIN TO GET ON at first, but after a few ons and offs, I don't know if the leather gives just a bit or if you just figure out a trick that works for you or what, but it gets easier. Now I can slip them on and off as easily as I can get in and out of the Born ankle boots I've got, which have an elastic goring. They look great w/ jeans and skirts, are built to last, are made in the USA, and are a great all-round boot.

Cute, rugged, but a little too tough. I have always been a fan of boots, having ridden horses my whole life, so these really fit my lifestyle and need (run around town and can still go to the barn without ruining my good shoes). They look good, are high quality, but in the future, I will stay away from boots that are this short. The leather is sturdy and it hits me right in the shin above my ankle. If my socks don't stay pulled up, I get a sore spot where the top of the boot hits my leg. A good pair of thick socks will remedy this, however, thick socks make it difficult to get the boot on since it is snug around the ankle (not a fun task when you are 7 months pregnant). I see that many people comment about their heels slipping in Frye boots. That is actually a trait you want in boots… so I have always been told. And my heel does slip. Since they are a good fit, it does not cause any irritation. I'm not going to send them back, but I will try to find some good socks that work.

I finally gave in and bought these boots after eying them for months, I could not decide between these and the square toe version. I went with my normal size and they are a great fit. There is some extra room for thick socks for the winter. Have no trouble getting them on (with boots like this, just put the shoe on the floor and step into it… if that doesn't work, they are too small). I wish they offered different color choices, but love them and know they will last forever.

Awesome stompers - I have wide calves and needed a short boot...these are great and easy to wear with almost anything. Also, I have heel spurs and these boots do not bother my heels! I love them.

About Frye
Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.
In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.
The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

These boots are extremely cute and comfy! I am an uber fashionista, and these look great with skinny jeans!!! I usually wear a 7.5, ordered a 7.5, and these fit true to size. I highly recommend these to all, super comfy, super cute, high quality leather!

LOVE these boots. Comfortable from the moment I first put them on, gorgeous, and sturdy as heck. The only two small problems: first, I really wish there was a tab/loop at the top to help pull them on, as the leather is quite stiff (mine are still new, so I\'m hoping they\'ll wear in a bit and get easier). Second, at the top of the back of the leg, the stitches are a little rough and if my socks don\'t stay all the way up, it rubs and irritates. Easily fixed with a couple little patches of moleskin, though.

I saw these boots in a magazine and absolutely loved them. They are true to size and so comfortable! Even wearing thick socks the boots are a perfect fit. I have flat feet so I always need a lot of support in my shoes. These boots are perfect in every way.

These are my favorite boots in the world! I got them about a year ago, and have worn them every day (even in a huge snowstorm) and they have very little wear and tear. They are still just as cute as the first day I got them! one problem I did have was that it took a long time to break them in. Also, I am a ballerina and have extremely high arches so at first the boots were very painful, rubbing against the tops of my feet. I am so glad I did not give up! I know I will get many years of use out of these.

I bought the boots in brown and I love them. I have wide feet so they are a little narrow for me but after two wearings they are better. I usually wear a 7.5 so I got the 8 for the extra width. Very cool boots!

Edgy, yet feminine boots. The only problem is the instep is very tight. If you have a wide foot, a little in between, or a high arch, I definitely suggest you go up a full size. I'm an 8, the 8.5, was still a struggle to get on my right foot; 9 here I come! Fingers crossed.

Ordered these in Gaucho Wednesday afternoon and received Friday morning, yay! Zappos is the best! I normally wear a 7.5 or 8 and ordered a 7.5 based on reviews. Used a butter knife as a shoe horn to get them on the first time, no problems after that. Need a little breaking in around the ankles. So glad I ordered these. I am tiny and was afraid they would be too chunky, but they are perfect. Tried the Frye Veronica Shortie and they were too flat and not chunky enough. Love the Engineer 8R and want black ones, too!

I love these boots! I have wanted them for a long time! I finally broke down & bought a pair. I was not disappointed. They are quality boots, comfy since day one. The only thing I noticed was the backs took a few days of wear to break in. Love the arch support, the soles are great & they don't slip. They look great with bootcut, skinny jeans & tights. I couldn't be happier. I expect to be wearing these boots for years to come. I wrote this because other reviews encouraged me to purchase these. Go for it !

I got these this morning and refuse to take them off! First, of course, Zappos rocks the overnight shipping and I compared a bunch of boots to replace the ankle boots my mom gave me that were hers in college. So these boots had to be comfortable, sturdy, and look cute with tights and leggings, which is basically all I wear on set. Got them right away, and I was a little nervous. Could they be right? I put them on, they fit perfectly (I ordered a half size up) and I've been in them for almost 12 hours straight. Walked the dog, did errands, went to a meeting, walked to dinner, walked home. They are sturdy but soft and they look super cute as long as you go more girly on top. So A+ again for Frye, for Zappos and for getting what I wanted! Yay!

I've had these boots for 2 years now, still very difficult to get on - it wears me out! Thought that would be over by now! Otherwise, when they are on, they're great. Zappos is the best.

This boot took a long time to break in. However, now that it is, it's a wonderful comfy boot that I do believe will last 50 years or so. It's one 1/2 size smaller than I usually wear. And I've got high arches so I use orthotics in them, but I love these boots! My friends will surely be sick of seeing them soon enough.

I bought these boots because I wanted a low pair of leather boots that would last. I've bought less expensive boots from other brands and they only last one season. I received great reviews from friends about how well Frye boots last (one friend has had hers for over 10 years; she just had them re-soled and they look brand new!). When I received them I loved the styling. The straps & buckles are nice details and they have a really great color. If I have only one complaint it's that they're a little heavy, which I suppose is mostly due to the heel. I don't really mind this that much. They're still my favorite boots!

I have size 10 flat feet, but these boots fit perfectly! Comfy, no problems getting in to the boot, I didn't have to wear them in at all. I love the brown color; they are a little heavy, but really doesn't bother me. They are beautiful sturdy boots and the price is not unreasonable since if you care for them they will last a lifetime.
