Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.
In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.
The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

I've had this shoe now for some months and have to say I just love this shoe and wear it to death. I'm thrilled to see that the brown shades are back in stock. I don't ordinarily do this, but I bought the shoe in black owing to the fact that the browns that I liked were out and remained such for awhile. Though I took my second choice, I never had a moment's regret. The shoe is just so sassy/classy with a hearkening to a Texas boot with its chunky boot-like heel and slightly upturned toe box. I wear it with slacks, pair it with boot-legged jeans and casual jacket, and love it with opaque tights and a knee-length skirt. I confess, here in the South, the Oxford has not yet hit big and give 'em a season or two, however, when I travel back home to the Northeast, this shoes garners so many compliments and queries as to their make and origin of purchase. I wear my custom orthodics in them, no problem. This shoe fit me out of the box, even with my orthos.

This are my fifth pair of Fryes. I always wear 6½ with Fryes but often wear a 7 in other brands. For reference, my Veronica Slouches in 6½ were very snug initially (I almost exchanged them for a larger size), and I had to break them in for a couple of months, while my Melissa Buttons in 6½ fit great right out of the box. I ordered these in 6½ and yes, they seem about ½" too long in the toe, but the sizing is otherwise perfect. I think a smaller size would be too narrow from my experience, but Fryes do stretch nicely when they initially feel a tad snug. I have high arches and my feet are a tad on the narrow side. I got the cognac (the tan was sold out), and it is a beautiful rich brown color that goes well with just about any color! They are so much cuter on my feet than I even hoped for.

Have these in two colors now. They are so comfortable yet stylish. I like that they are more feminine than some of the others I tried on. I vary from a 7.5 or an 8. The 7.5 fitted me perfectly. I did get a blister first day I wore them but I was wearing thin socks and walked the dog 4 miles! They are nicely broken in now!

I cant believe how fast I received my exchange! I got my exchange n less than 24 hours! Great customer service! So here are the measurements on the 7 1/2. Please compare to measurements on the review I wrote for the size 7 in Smoke. Heel to toe - 10.5 inches widest part - 3.75 back heel - 2.5 inches. I measured across the top of the shoe that covers the top of the foot and got 7 inches. I wear a 7.5 in all Born shoes so I think these are true to size. So far I'm very happy with these shoes. I hope to be able to wear them without too much break in.
