I love these boots! I wear a 10 & ordered a 10 and the fit is perfect; not too tight, not too loose, room for a pair of socks. I was worried that the room needed for a pointy toe would make my feet look huge, but not the case. Very comfortable. I got the distressed gray color and I love it. It's an update on a classic style and I have a feeling I will be enjoying these boots for years to come. They arrived the day after I ordered them - couldn't believe it - with regular shipping.

I love these boots! I wear a size 7.5 shoe typically, and ordered that size in the Billy Short. They fit well if I wear a thin trouser sock, but not with a thick athletic sock. I have a high instep anyway, and have a very hard time putting most boots on my feet. I need a slippery sock to just get them over my heel. So, I would say these boots run a teensy bit small. I bought them in the grey color, and they are so beautiful! They match practically anything, and look super stylish with jeans. I find them very comfortable, even if I have to walk a lot (and I wear sneakers 95% of the time). I would definitely buy another pair. Also, kudos to Zappos: I ordered these standard shipping on a Tuesday night, and got them Wednesday morning, maybe 15 hours later! That's incredible service.

Love them! I got the gray ones so I could wear them with either black or brown. They look great with boot cut jeans. I usually wear a size 8 and that’s what I got in these. I would definitely say they’re true-to-size. They’re so well-made and look so cute! They actually make me excited for colder weather!

About Frye
Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.
In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.
The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

Brown stain unappealing. I finally decided to go with the Frye boots this year in the shorter height. Got these boots in brown and the stain on them looked like it was wiped on by a child. Even the tint of the brown was nothing like I thought it would be. I will be returning them, much to my disappointment.

I had always wanted Frye Boots, and these are real nice. The short boots look great with my jeans and cords. They run full. The craftsmanship and quality are classic. I love my boots!

Zappos did a great job. I received these shoes very quickly. As far as the boot, they are so cute; however, my heel does move up and down some as noted by the other reviewers.

I just received my grey Billy Shorts and I love them! It was not love at first try-on though, because it took me 10+ minutes and a ton of sweat to get those babies on! But once I wiggled my foot in there, they fit beautifully. I've read they stretch, so I wore them all night and did my best to stretch them out. Getting them off the first time was something of a challenge, but I stretched them as I was taking them off, so hopefully next time they'll be a little more cooperative. I have bigger calves and the shaft height hits before the calf swells out, so that was a relief. Now I want them in another color.

The Billy Frye short boots are great! They fit true to size in length, maybe a bit wider than the norm. Very comfortable, no real break-in time needed. The look cute with jeans or dresses and tights/leggings. I have several other styles of Frye boots, and they never disappoint.

Wow! I am so impressed with my brown, Frye Billy Short boots. These boots are of excellent quality, excellent comfort, combined with a cool looking boot which I can dress up or down, depending on what I wear with them. These are great walking shoes and are comfy even after having them on all day. I typically wear a size 10 so I ordered a 10 and they are a perfect fit. I am now thinking of buying another pair of Frye Billy Short in a black.

These boots are awesome! The color and fit are exactly as I expected (true to size for me, 7.5=7.5). They are super comfortable and actually warm; I have taken them on many rainy bike rides and my feet have stayed warm and dry, and stylish! Great product. I look forward to my next Frye purchase with Zappos.

I'll second what most people said in their comments; the Frye Billy Short boots are true to size. I purchased the gray and the color goes with everything: brown, black, beige and colored jeans. I also own a pair of the Frye Carson Shorties in tan. I wanted to provide a comparison between the Billy Short and the Carson Shortie in case anyone is making a decision between the two styles. The Carson Shortie heel is a tad higher, about 1/4 inch (the description says the Carson Shortie heel is 1/2 inch higher than the Frye Billy Short, but holding my pairs together for comparison that is not the case). The Carson Shortie seems dressier to me while the Billy Short provides a more rugged western look. To me the most important comparison is the boot shaft. Though the difference in shaft height between the two styles is almost imperceptible when they are held together in comparison, the Frye Billy Short, because of the deeper "V" cut and the slightly stiffer leather, keeps its "round" and seems to work better with tighter jean bottoms when you want the jeans "over" the boots. The Frye Carson Shortie has a softer and more supple shaft and for me needs a full boot cut jean over them. I also like the way the shaft stands on the Frye Billy Short for bare legs or with a skirt. Since the Frye Carson Short leather is a bit more supple, the shaft has a little more play or "gaping" when walking. All that said, I love both styles and highly recommend both. I only wear Frye and Lucchese western boots; made in the USA and quality can't be beat!

OK these have to be the most comfortable boots I have ever worn. They were comfortable from the first second I tried them on! I have the worst feet EVER and it is so amazing to find shoes that don't hurt by the end of the day. I even wore them on a recent trip to California where I had to walk all day in them and my feet felt great! I ordered a 1/2 size bigger than normal because I have special orthotic inserts (remember the bad feet) and they work great in these boots. I ordered the Fryes and another brand for comparison but I went with the Fryes because of the comfort factor and the fact that they didn't make my feet look so big. The Ariats are cute and comfortable but the toe box was about 2 inches longer than the Fryes. Well, at a 9.5 shoe size, I certainly don't need my feet to look any bigger than they already do. Therefore I went with the Fryes -- well worth the extra money! I also got the grey pair and they go with everything!!! BUY THESE BOOTS! p.s. if they are hard to get on the first time or so, don't panic, your socks are just too thick! Once your feet go in, you'll want to wear them all day long! Cheers to Frye for happy feet!

These boots look great...but they are not the most comfortable boots to be had. It is REALLY hard to get my foot down in there. I couldn't have used a smaller size because once my foot is in there, it slips really bad in the back and rubs blisters. I went and bought some "real boot socks" and now I like them a lot better. They are still hard to put on...but now that I've got them broken in they are more comfortable. I normally wear a 7 1/2 or 8 shoe. I ordered these boots in 7 1/2. Don't give up on getting your foot down in there because if you get a bigger size...they will be too big. They look good though. Really cute & stylish boots.

Frye Billy Shorts are great! Lighter than some of the weighty Frye boots and true to size. They do run slightly wide, but still the foot does not slosh around in these. The heels do take some time to break in, a little hard to slide on at first. I have found this true of all Frye brand boots, but with a shoe horn to begin with, they soon wear well. Very comfortable and WELL constructed. I ordered the grey and the color and style work with all my wardrobe! Really hip boots and I love the shorter rise, doesn’t make your pants puff out like some of the taller boots! Extremely pleased with this purchase and Zappos as ALWAYS!!! Thinking of ordering the Deborah shorts as well.
Brands I'd also recommend: Old Gringo and Donald J Pliner

I love this boot. I bought the Gray because of the pics and the many reviews that discuss how it goes with EVERYTHING. But it doesn't look at all like the photo. The gray looks exactly like the photos of the Taupe boot. So much so that I ordered another pair because I thought they had put the wrong boot in the box labeled Gray. The boot is darker than pictured. The leather color and the stitching are the same, whereas in the pic the stitching stands out being darker than the leather. All this said, the color does go with everything so I've kept it. I was looking for a boot that would look good with tan, brown, black, gray and both dark and light denim. These are it! I have the Frye Harness and it is quite a heavy boot with a boxier toe. I wear 8.5 in the Harness style with plenty of toe room. Billy Short is nice and light compared to harness. I had to go up half a size to 9, though, because of the narrowness of the toe. And I have narrow feet! The 8.5 was entirely too small, but the instep was a little loose for me. With the 9, the instep is a little looser than it probably should be but with a thin gel insole and/or a thicker sock, fits really nicely and the insole adds comfort. I use one in the Harness boot, too. This boot is perfect for travel because it's an easy on/off at the airport and doesn't take much space in luggage when you're not wearing it. The shaft is narrow enough that I can even wear a fairly narrow (straight) leg jean over it without it pulling awkwardly. And they look fabulous with bootleg cuts, of course. I don't know if I'll wear it with skirts. If I had more muscular legs, I definitely would. But the shaft diameter is a little big for me to feel comfortable with bare legs and a skirt. Leggings for sure, though, make it work.

I got the Billy Short in the distressed grey, and they are really, really cute. I got them to wear with jeans when I don't feel like wearing heels or heeled boots, which is what I normally wear with jeans. They are comfortable, although the tag at the top rubbed part of my shin raw the first time I wore them. Nothing socks or removal of the tag won't solve. I love the slightly upturned pointed toe, especially because it isn't so obvious. The grey color is very neutral and would go with anything. There are more brown tones and striations in the grey than there are blue, which sometimes happens with the color grey, and that would make them too cool-colored. Not the case here. Totally neutral. The sole and the heel, too, are vintage looking but look like they are made to last forever. The stitching is subtle and gives the whole boot a vintage-y Sundance sort of feeling. Kind of girl from a ranch-moves-to-NYC kind of look, in my opinion. I wouldn't be able to rock the shortie boot with skirt look, I don't think, so I believe I'll stick to wearing these with jeans. They will be great in the spring and summer especially, when tall boots are just too hot to wear down south. The arch support is decent (I have high arches), and the sizing is perfect. I normally go between an 8.5 and a 9, and I got the 8.5, thinking they would stretch a bit and because I didn't want to have to wear socks if I didn't want to. They fit perfectly. I have several other Frye boots, and these are my favorites right now. Comfortable, unique, stylish, vintage-modern. My favorite style combination.
