While I purchase most of my shoes from Zappos, I bought these at the Freeboard store in Denver in August before they were available on Zappos. I can not say enough about these boots: super cute, very unique, comfortable, great heel height, beautiful color (I bought the cognac) and well made. I highly recommend! I usually wear a 7.5, but went with an 8 (since they only come in whole sizes); the 8 works fine.

I love the look of these boots and bought them online from a department store. I read the other customer review on here, but decided to purchase them despite the negative comments on the comfort. I wish I had listened. These boots are so uncomfortable! The ankle part of the boot is so tight and hard. I wear a size 6 and ordered this size, but found them difficult to get on because they were so stiff. I only walked around my living room with them, but can't imagine actually wearing them out and not regretting it. I got the boots on sale and thought the discomfort might okay given the discounted price. Unfortunately, I will be sending them back. They are just too uncomfortable to justify and it feels like it would take years for them to break in. I still love the appearance of the boots and wish they'd been more comfortable.

The style is cute but it is so stiff you can barely get it on much less zip it. It looks more brown than black. I'm returning this.

Absolutely fantastic pair of boots! I took my time looking as these are not cheap and am so glad I chose these! The color is a little darker than "cognac" - more a regular distressed brown which is actually more versatile. I'm a 7 1/2 and bought 8 to make sure of comfort and thick socks and the fit is great. Not too high a heel, very comfortable! Would definitely recommend!

Well here's the thing, they are absolutely stunning in person , the rust color is perfect and they are amazing quality BUT they are impossible to walk in! The shaft is really high (over my knee cap and I'm 6'0" tall)! There's no split in the back! I mean I have long legs and I don't think i can sit in them let alone drive or anything else! I know the leather will probably soften up and be more pliable back there but it's too risky because they are not cheap! I'm going to wear them around the house with jeans and leggings and make my final decision , but sadly I think these are going back... As for sizing I'm a 9.5 and I always size down in freebirds so the 9 was perfect. Also these run on the narrow side which works for me but if you have high instep or wider feet these will be a challenge

Love these boots! Comfy, stylish...well worth every penny. I've received tons of compliments every time I've worn them. So happy that I got them!

These are gorgeous boots...love the distress on them! Color is fantastic! Fit is very poor on me. I take an 8 in boots and the fit around my foot is unsatisfactory, loose in one area and too big in another. I can't fix it with thick socks. Back they go, so sad. I love Freebird Boots but have found I must be careful with the fit. I will always go Freebird before shopping other brands. Just sayin'.

These boots are beyond GORGEOUS! Ive been searching for a knee high boot with stacked heels that are a little rugged, stylish and sophisticated at the same time. These fit all my criteria and the leather is soft like butter! There is no need to break them in. They slipped on with ease and so comfortable! I normally wear a size 6 and felt they are true to size. With wear, hopefully the leather will expand a bit. I can't say enough great things about these boots! They will be my forever go to boots! wish I could get two pairs!

Gorgeous, cute boot but way too narrow. I could barely get my foot in and I've never known my feet to be wide. Sizing up wouldn't do anything to help, they seemed to fit fine length-wise, there was just no getting into this boot comfortably. Had to return. So sad because they are beautiful. Love the distressed look of the leather.

For the cost I was very disappointed! I have very narrow feet, small ankles and thin calfs and it was hard to get them on, so I can imagine it would be nearly impossible for someone who has wider feet/ankles/calfs. The color was very different than the picture - it was almost an orange color. The strings are what made me love the style but they are a pain in the neck. I tried to fix the leather string so I had more string to close the very top, but after 5 minutes I gave up. I already sent them back.

These boots are so special and amazing. I order a lot of boots and usually end up returning them but I've been looking at these for a few weeks now and despite the price tag I decided to pull the trigger. Best Decision Ever. I think these are the most amazing unique boots I've ever owned. I got the 'grey' color which is really more of a taupey brown but soft and muted to go with practically anything. AHHH best boots ever!

I have hesitated on several Freebird styles so far and they have sold out quickly, so I did not wait on the Coals even though they were on the pricier end. The cognac leather is very red, which is different from the photo in the Zappos listing, but this is what I was looking for so it was not a problem. They are a bit hard to get on because the back panel is suede, which tugs at your pants/socks, and as another reviewer said it's particularly hard to get your heel past the ankle point. The boots are pretty comfortable once they are on, considering that they are a bit on the dressy side, but the sole does slip on smooth surfaces so I may considering getting those reinforced. And you do need really skinny legs to lace them all the way up, but I got around this by unlacing the whole boot, unwrapping some excess from the ankle, and then relacing them. That worked like a charm! I have been wearing them constantly to loosen up the leather around the arch, but I am very happy with these and plan to wear them with skirts and jeans alike.

These are absolutely awesome! Yes, these are expensive, but they are really high quality. I could immediately tell that they would last forever. They have some heel to them, but they are still comfortable as well.

Beautiful boot, smells and looks great. Unfortunately for me it was a half size to big, to narrow, and made me knee bulge over the top lol. Would be perfect for someone with narrow feet. I am very sad it did not work out.

I just got these boots and put them right on with thin socks. They are very true to size, I am a 6 and they fit like a 6. They are hard soles, but I am very used to wearing wood clogs so this didn't bother me. Another plus is I live in Seattle and they are very weather proof. I walked my dogs in them in the rain and my feet stayed dry and warm. I agree they are slippery and I did slip in them a couple of times. I like the rugged combat look. No pointy toe at all. I like the heel better than Docs, a nice little bit of a lift. Thumbs up.

These boots are so cute! My first pair of over the knee boots, and not my last. They are well made quality leather, and super sexy. I will say they are a little stiff, and the footbed not as comfortable as Fryes. I rubbed them down with a little leather conditioning cream and that seemed to soften them up a bit. They need to be broken in. As the previous reviewer said, don't let the color scare you. They are beautiful.

Stunning boots! Beautiful leather! Not very distressed (like most of my other Freebirds), but just enough color variety for a clean, vintage look (I bought the black). Takes about 5 minutes to get them on because of the laces and unlined leather on upper shaft of boot. But it's well worth the effort. I am a very consistent 7-1/2. Ordered both 7 and 8. The 7 was extremely small and the 8 fit perfectly (like a 7-1/2 normally would on me). Due to the laces, the calf width can vary. But if you want the laces to reach at or near the top holes, skinny calves are a must (less than 12-1/2"), otherwise laces will fall short and could make the boots less desirable and a little sloppy.

This boot is unreal! Love it so much. Unfortunately, I normally wear a size 11 and they don't have this in an 11 so I tried the 10. Was tight on my foot not in length but width. What a bummer because these boots are so wonderful!

I first spotted these boots in a department store and tried on the black color. I fell in love with the style but I was looking for brown boots and the pair in the store were stiff especially around the ankles. So I decided to buy the Cognac boots online hoping it was just that particular pair. I received them today and they're gorgeous. The straps around the ankle enhance their appearance, the color is exactly like pictured in the photo, and the heel is high enough that they're sexy yet walkable. However, they're so very uncomfortable! The leather is rigid, the toe box is narrow (and I don't have particularly wide feet), and it was a struggle to pull the zipper open out of the box. Getting the boots on and off was a struggle - the zipper catches the entire length of the boot! I don't have wide calves and the boot was tight all over. If you purchase these boots, know you'll need a breaking-in period. I bought a pair of Frye boots along with these and the difference is like night and day. I've been looking for another brand of boots to fall in love with and was hoping Freebird would win me over. This pair didn't do it for me so I'll have to return them. I just couldn't imagine making them my "go-to" boots that I'd wear every day. In summary, they're beautiful boots but you'll be sacrificing comfort for style.

Obviously, I ordered these boots so I didn't have a chance to try them on first. I got my usual size 7 in the black suede. I am between a 7 and 7.5 usually. When I first got them out of the box I noticed on one shoe some of the suede looked as if it had been worn/rubbed off. I'm guessing this was maybe from a previous return? I don't know but it wasn't bad enough to send back. They get that way eventually anyhow and I like distressed looks. Secondly the zipper on one boot would not unzip. I had the same trouble with a pair I tried on in the actual Steve Madden store so I think it's typical of this bootie. Fortunately, it didn't really need to be unzipped. My foot slid in easy enough which then worried me that it would slide out. It does move around a bit but not much and I find them comfy enough to walk around in, so they are keepers. Since then I've attended parties and walked around the outdoor mall and they give me no problems although to be fair they don't have much arch support. Just know that even if you have trouble with the zipper you can still probably get them on unless the idea of it drives you nuts. For me I loved them enough to overlook this flaw.
