Love, love, love these Freebird Sandals. This is my second pair of Freebirds, and the quality is amazing. I usually wear a 9.5, but these 9's fit great! Comfy too. I teacher kindergarten, and I can wear them all day!!

I love the look and style of these shoes so I am extremely disappointed that I have to return them. The bottom strap is too tight and the metal grommet cuts into the ankle bone. There is the option to adjust it looser, though there are no holes for the metal piece to fit through so the strap hangs down and ruins the line of the shoe. I was going to take it in to have a shoe repairman punch in an extra hole, but in wearing the shoes the metal grommet piece fell off already. Apparently not as well made as the price suggests.

I loved these from the first time I saw them. I live in boots and tennis shoes, and, they can be too warm in hot summer weather. These are perfect! They have the look of a boot, but the openwork of a sandal. The buckles adjust to give a custom fit, which makes them feel like "old friends" right out of the box, and, they are really great looking. They are very comfortable, and, the style couldn't be any better! I am thrilled with these sandals, and am so glad I took a chance on them.

I was a bit hesitant in purchasing these given the fact that it's a Steve Madden brand. I haven't come to expect quality from them but thought I'd give it a shot since I loved the simple and classic look of the boot. My gamble totally paid off! These are some of the nicest boots I've owned, incredibly comfortable, no pinching or chafing anywhere. It's a taller heel but it seems like most of my weight settles in the heels so no sore toes so far. The leather is really beautiful (any minor tightness over the arch was worked out after a day or so) and the construction is great. They are handmade so there are a few "imperfections" that lend character to the look. I'm still breaking in the leather sole so they're pretty slippery but a few days running around outside should solve that. Highly recommend!

Love these boots! Comfortable, great unique style. Get compliments whenever I wear them. Can be worn with socks or not. The only issue is the colors on the web site are not accurate, so color I got was not what I thought, and that color was not available. Kept them anyway, and glad I did. Tempted to get another pair in another color as well.

Love these shoes! I usually wear a size 7.5 but based on previous reviews I ordered a size 8. They were very stiff when I received and the leather is thick. I put on a thicker pair of sock I and wore them in the house for about two hours to loosen them. They didn't bother anywhere except on the fourth toe on both sides. The next day I wore them all day walking on a boardwalk and then on the beach. My feet didn't hurt and I didn't have blisters. But they were definitely a little sore. But after I broke them in they were pretty comfortable. I like to wear them with short shorts (boyfriend shorts, festival shorts, rompers and they go with everything)! I get lot of compliments on them and feel like they are definitely worth the investment. The beauty of these boots is that they are distressed looking so you can wear them in rough terrain, gravel and sand and not feel like u are messing them up. They are stiff at first but that's because these are meant to last years and years. The color I got was grayish brown with a dark olive green buckle.

Have been waiting for these to be available in my size and brown multi for quite some time. I was so excited to receive them today; it turned in to a sad day. They are cute and just what I was wanting, but the fit is way off. The toe box is weird - my 4th toe gets smashed and my pinky sticks out the side in opening behind where your toes are supposed to be. Granted, my pinky toe is a pinky toe...but these would just sit in my closet. Not at all what I was hoping for. I also had to unbuckle them to get them on - would be a hassle to do each time. Yes, I have another pair of Freebirds that I love.

Normally wear an 8.5, but based off reviews I ordered the 8. it fit perfectly in the foot, but it would not zip up all the way up. the top opening is only 8".

I absolutely love these boots. I've been looking for something like them for years. The way the leather flares out at the ankle, along with the height , makes them perfect for so many uses. They look great with dresses, wide flares, like Free People's Super Flares and super straight leg jeans. The colors are great too...I got the tan and love the color. I also got the grayish cement ones but in a bigger size, so at this price I can only get one for now. One problem is getting them on. This is tricky to get a decent fit. I usually wear an 8 1/2 and kept the 8's. The 9's would work too with socks...but I don't wear them a lot. So getting the zipper down in the back is hard because the cute strap doesn't dis-attach. Ultimately I stretched the strap a little to get the zipper down enough to to slip them on. Then I wore them around the house for a while and the leather stretched a bit more. Now the strap is easier to pull up and down...and out of the way enough to use the zipper. So the 8's fit me really well...and I usually wear an 8 1/2.

It is always hard if you do not know to size up or down. I would say size down. I have a really high arch and will not be able to fit into this shoe correctly but the 9 fit much better than the 10 and I am a 9.5.

I like how these look, and I am hoping they will break in over time. But they are hellishly uncomfortable on day 1 of wear. There are four different places where the leather cuts into my skin, and there will be blisters, I know it. Not a shoe designed for comfort.

Ok let me say I love these shoes. they are beautiful-the color is exactly as it appears. I wore them a few times a day to see how they would feel (inside of course) and they are more comfortable than not - I'm not sure a day at the zoo would be a good idea but otherwise very nice. The other reviewers are correct the size is at least one size smaller. I normally wear a 8.5 and I bought a 7 and it is perfect. My foot bed is a bit wide but not wide enough to wear a wide shoe so it is a little snug but is stretching out so far. the only weird thing is when I walk it feels like heal of the shoe is loose - its hard to describe but it goes away. very well made. I highly recommend them if you like this style. I purchased the light color - blake?

Great summer boot! Wore it for the whole day the first time in absolute comfort. Runs about 1/2 size big. I have to say, Zappos has the best customer support ever. I would like to be able to buy everything I need from them. Life would be easy!! Keep up the great work, Zappos.

Okay, so first off, these boots are gorgeous. I'm incredibly happy with the purchase. I wish they were at a different price point, however, it is what it is. The laces make them unique, so even if you own a lot of knee high leather boots they are truly one of a kind. The only negative that I have is that they are kind of hard to pull on, even when the side of the boot is unzipped. The calf is very narrow. They pair well with dresses and skirts. Due to the tightness in the shaft, I don't know how well they will work with skinny jeans. Overall, I am over the moon about the purchase.

They sound clunky when I walk but are so comfortable! I'm pregnant and short and wanted the height without my feet hurting. They may be too wide if you have narrow feet.

This, is a fabulous shoe. I normally wear a 7 1/2 to 8, usually an 8 since I've gotten older and had foot surgery (too many years in retail). I first ordered the 8. They felt fine, but after a few hours wear (carpet and my kitchen floor), due to how it is constructed, I felt it stretched too much. It was also a tiny bit too long, looking at my toes. Shoes with this type of strappy style, esp real leather, can do that. I then ordered the 7 - no half sizes. I was worried it would not work out, but, it's perfect! At first it was difficult to get on (I have a narrow foot and high instep). Once it was on, though, I could tell the fit was just right. My toes don't hang over the edge, nor is there too much space at the end. It definitely looks better on my foot than the size 8. I would advise ordering the 2 sizes if you are in doubt, and if your budget allows. Don't worry if you have to work at getting it on your foot at first - the nature of the construction are typical of a style like this. It looks absolutely fantastic, and I have gotten compliments from some tough audiences already, since I've worn them. They are distressed, so if you are looking for perfect, this isn't the shoe for you. I will probably wear the crap out of these shoes. Perfect for summer. Worth every penny. Would skimp on groceries to have these! I also ordered the 'Stairway', but in a size 8, since it is a close-toed shoe. Also perfect. But that's another review! Buy them!

Love them! True to size, nice leather, no complaints. I have worn them with and without socks, and like the look of both. Zipper was a little tough in the beginning but I followed someone else suggestions and used a pencil on it, they are fine now.

These Freebird "Salt" boots are beautifully made with quality leather and materials. The color of the leathers is great. I ordered two more pair in black and grey suede after first receiving a pair in cognac. I ordered several other pairs of Freebird boots in other styles that include those colors; I am keeping all of them and ordered an extra pair in different colors in a couple of styles. I don't buy boots that often, and experience with Freebird boots has shown me that these new boots will be the only ones I will need for the next ten+ years. I love Freebird's boots: I have a pair that I've worn and worn and worn for 10+ years, including every day of every winter on the East Coast in brutal snow and ice and rainy conditions. I also wore them when I lived in the Caribbean for a year, a couple of years ago. I simply have them polished a couple of times a year, and have replaced the sole maybe once; they still look amazing. I call them my urban warfare/combat readiness boots because running around in New York City, the Freebird boots I've had for the past decade ground me and I could even run in them if I had to, though the heels are almost two inches high. It's awesome to have a brand of boots and shoes that is old-school quality construction and materials; that would be Freebird. These "Salt" boots -- plus the "Austin" boots are a bit more narrow than say, Frye boots (actually, they are a lot more narrow than Frye,) but this is a good thing, for me, since I don't like to have my foot swimming in a boot and slipping around, including having my heel slip up in Frye's boots, which is why I've never purchased a pair of Frye's that I didn't end up returning. Freebird is my go-to brand. I also ordered, with this Zappos shipment, a pair of the Freebird "Stairway" shoes; they are super cute, well constructed, and perfect for a hip, edgy summer shoe that is, nevertheless, substantial on the foot. Keep these great styles coming, Freebird and Zappos.

Gorgeous boot but too small. I have super skinny calves and for once a pair of tall boots that actually fit them snugly - but alas, I also have big feet. Size 11 US usually, but always a size 42. Depending on the brand that varies...these definitely fit like a 41. Boot was also tighter on my right foot than my left - not sure if that's a fault of the boot or my big feet - hah! If I thought it were possible to break them in, I would. Going back.

I bought these boots last Summer and love them! Fits perfectly and can wear for a whole day walking around NYC. Style is great, can wear it with jeans, leggings or shorts/skirt/mini-dress, I just wear with ankle socks for shorts/dress. Socks need to be a color that matches the leather (I have the lighter shade of boot, so I just wear white ankle socks). I have no issue with the width of the ankle area at all and I have pretty slender legs/ankles. I am 5'6", and wear size 6 pants. I get a zillion complements on these boots. I also have small bunions, and these shoes are wide enough to accommodate!
