These are great boots. They are very light. My husband loved them. But the color scheme was odd. Tongue/middle section was too bright, against the olive green. Looked a bit girly, not like a man's hiking boot. Returned and shopped elsewhere for a dark brown color with a less contrasting middle section.

I have been looking for nice hiking boots when I noticed the Danner Mountain Light Cascade. I loved that they are made in the USA. The price was hard to take on but I knew these would last 15-20 years. When they arrived, I was taken back by the quality and craftsmanship. Just beautiful! They fit true to size and I started the process of breaking them in. They are very stiff and need to be broken in a few hours a day. I wear them with thick wool socks for maybe 2 hours and this seems to be working. I will increase the amount of time each week until my hiking trip in April. I wear between a 8.5 to 9 and I went with the 8.5 and am glad I did. You will not be sorry to invested in these boots!

I like the shoes. To me they are pretty wimpy. not boots. shoes. shoes that are meant to look nicer than converses, but don't make you look like a corporate lawyer or something either. These are somewhere between fancy and rugged, they aren't even a particular color. (falcon?). So, here we are, just ambiguous guys with ambiguous shoes. thats why I like them. I feel like a spy because I can slip into any occasion and not turn heads. They are pretty comfortable. the sole feels sturdy and durable for the meager thickness, and they aren't loud when your heel touches the ground walking. I am comfortable walking long distances in them. longest Ive don't according to my phone was 8.5 miles with very little breaks. My feet don't need much arch support so I'm alright in these, but they are perfectly flat. In that way too the forefoot is really tight, like they tried to make these as much of a pancake as possible. Thats ok, but then why danner chose to put some mesh lining in the forefoot only, where its tightest is beyond me. And as another reviewer mentioned, the foam under the forefoot makes is really hard to put them on because your foot will not slide over it at all. with a thin pari of socks and when they are on my feet finally, I do like them a lot. That being said, sometimes when I'm tired and cranky I want to rip these off and slice them open and tear the foam and the lining out of the forefoot with a veloceraptor claw shouting DIE with all the volume and emotion I can possibly express in a word. Overall I am happy with my purchase, and I like Danner.

These are gorgeous boots! They have a rlatively easy break-in period, and waterproofing/support have held up on nasty, muddy, inclement trails.

I would go a half size up. I wear a 9 in all other shoes but because they're boots I went with the 9.5 and they fit perfect. Great boots, excellent quality and they came out of the box comfortable.

Looks great, but not comfortable as my ankle rubs badly on the inside. Doesn't seem to be the usual Danner quality either. Made in Vietnam even though Danner's whole brand is about being from Portland.

Order a half size or more larger. Shoe is smaller than a prior year. In wide. Prior year was orange laces kept feet dry. I'm out in water often. Wore them out after a year. But comfortable.

I have always been a Red Wing customer, that is until the last few years, something has changed. Red wing boots are not the same, the quality, durability, etc. After trying several different boot companies and not finding anything worth the kind of money work boots cost, a friend of mine had a pair of Danner Forrest boots and gave them to me to try. All I can say is WOW what a gigantic difference. These boots fit like they were made just for me! I could not have been more pleased. And, the kicker is a better made boot for less than I paid for Red Wings. Danner is the only name that you need to know!

Beautiful boots... too bad they are - as others indicated - far too narrow. I ordered the EE and could barely stand up in them. I can't imagine who could wear the regular width model. That said, they are great-looking boots (the reason I took a chance) and appear very well made. I might try a 1/2 size up if they become available.

Boots are great looking and after initial breaking period, very comfy. I have them now for a year, and with moderate use the sole is wearing out much quicker then expected. If not that those would be great boots.

I worked 5 years in trail building/maintenance and conservation work. I've worked with the USFS, NPS, BLM, Americorps conservation corps groups, and other similar agencies and organizations. This is my 5th pair of hiking boots in the last 6 years that cost a ton. I've owned 3 pairs of Asolo 520's, which are very nice boots and practically the industry standard for folks like myself who work in the woods. You'll see about 1 in 4 outdoor professionals sporting 520's in my experience. If you are just hiking, they may last years. Doing trail building and maintenance, they would last me about 5 months before soles start to peel, lining is tattered, water seeps in, and you need a new pair. I know how to condition leather and glue soles. It's not enough. My last Danner's lasted for 24 solid months of use and are still kicking. They have a few loose stitches and need new soles. I got these as a lighter-weight pair of boots and substitutes while I send my old ones back to the shop in Portland for a full recrafting (I replaced outsole, insole, lining, restitch, recondition, new laces). I've heard it said that Danner's are overpriced of just a status symbol. In my experience, they are neither. They are cheaper in the long run if you really use your boots. They are sturdy, reliable, beautiful, U.S. made, and fully re-craftable if you get the right pair. I'm sold for life. I am only a Danner customer. I have no personal or business relationship with any person associated with Danner.

I've had these a little less than a month, and the leather has held up well to drizzle and some moisture, but haven't taken them in a big downpour or anything, yet. They were easy enough to wipe mild dirt smudges from. While they're still a little stiffer than boots I'm used to, they weren't painful out of the box or anything. The seam where the laces meet the toe box is a little close to the tops of my big toes, and the seam causes the boot to tend to bend right there, which can sometimes rub. I've been stretching it manually and spreading the toe box in order to loose than up and make it bend where the foot should bend naturally. Seems to work. The footbed is a little longer than I expected, but the last is comfortably wide. Order half a size down, as recommended. The soles are holding up OK, but the rubber seems a little softer than maybe one would want for intense trail climbing. Likewise, I'd say these are "everyday" or "light hike" boots because the leather isn't a smooth finish it's "waterbuck" leather (nubuck), and like suede is difficult to clean deeply and keep waterproof, but looks snazzy. Danner and Nikwax make sprays for nubuck but they require frequent, ie- bimonthly, applications to maintain the water resistance. I put on a coat when I got the boots, per Danner's recommendation, just to be careful, but they do come factory waterproofed. The canvas side panels are prewaxed, but Danner said that either the waterproofer spray used on the rest of the boot or something like Otter Wax would work to re-treat the side panels. Obviously, don't get the wax on the leather unless you want to darken it and change the finish. Overall a good boot, but if I had one complaint, it would be to move the seam/toe box meeting point so it wasn't so far forward. Makes for weird geometry.

I usually wear Red Wings and decided to try something new. These are good quality boots but I like the Red Wings better.

Wow, all I can say. I am so stoked on these boots. The craftmanship is next level, these are my first pair of quality boots. I am breaking them in but they are ok so far comfort wise, a bit stiff which is to be expected with a leather shoe but I can see it softening with time. The grey tone is more accurate on Danner.com's website than Zappos and thats exactly what I was after. I almost second guess myself when I saw them on Zappos as they are much darker on this site. We don't wear boots much on the island and I bought them as a long term smart shoe investment, lol.

Nice boots, but the lower price I believe comes from overseas manufacture. This is different than Danner's standard assembly in Portland, Oregon. The leather quality suffered. On the very first day of wear, an entire panel on one of the boots cracked completely. Here's a photo: http://imgur.com/Q9Rle7J

Felt like favorite old boots within two days- and perfect fit. Would have not liked them as much if I had gone down a size like some suggest. Would rather have space for thick sock without cramping.

Looks wise these are the boots of my dreams, been looking for them for a long time. I bought these boots a 1/2 size smaller as stated by other buyers who say they stretch out over time. My advice is buy your normal shoe size, I am often in between a 10 & 9.5. Still unsure as they need more breaking in if that was the right choice. They keep my feet dry and are supper comfortable aside from the way they rub on my achilles after awhile of wearing, hoping this goes away with time and wear. The down side... Not sure if anyone else has had this issue, but the tongue on my left boot likes to go sideways which is super annoying and I feel as though it makes the back rub on my achilles even more. Debating sending them into Danner to see if they can do anything about that. The right boot is on point and tongue stays in place. Think before you buy this boot, go somewhere to try them on, they are a major purchase. And don't forget to condition these boots, the clear conditioner by Danner is great.

Best pair of shoes or boots I have ever purchased. I wear them every day. My only minor complaint with them is they are loud when walking down the tiled hallways at work- they make a thumping sound with each step. No big deal, these are work boots and I do but on another pair of shoes that I keep at work. I wear these when I ride my motorcycle too.

Good-looking water-resistant hiking boot but heavy and stiff. It definitely needs considerable break-in. The ankle padding felt rough and uncomfortable compared to other boots I own (it probably needs heavier socks than I wear). I normally fit well into a D width but I found these rather narrow for my foot. For my purposes--mostly city walking when streets are icy or slushy--they're stylish but too heavy and expensive. There are other brands for almost half the price that are better on all counts.

Very happy with these out of the box. As others have said the width is inaccurate and much narrower than marked. They seems like they'll last a good while.
