Did you know that western boots are a particular style of cowboy boots? Cowboy boots originated from another eighteenth century riding boot, called the "Hessian boot," which was a style of boot worn in England. The original western boot is also thought of as the "classic cowboy boot" and is often recognized by its one inch heel and pointed toes.
Cowboy boots were initially designed to be practical and safe; narrow toes helped a cowboy mount his horse easier, and the heel prevented a cowboy's feet from sliding forward in the horse's stirrups. The tall height of a western boot prevented rattlesnake bites and made it easier to walk through mud or thorny brushes.
Roper boots have a newer design, and are characterized by their shorter boot style and rounded (roped) toes. Designed for the modern rodeo, roper boots were originally made to be more functional than stylish because cowboys had to not only ride their horse, but run around in the ring to rope their calf. Lacer boots, are roper boot styles that lace-up to help provide more ankle support.

These shoes are cute AND comfortable! I liked them so much I have them in both black and cognac. They rub just a little bit on my pinky toe, but I've never gotten a blister from it. I've gotten tons of compliments on these shoes. They are a bit on the heavy side, so it's nice to wear them and then take a day off. So cute and versatile - the perfect summer shoes.

The Obergon is not distressed leather. It appealed to me because of the beautiful combination of Earth tones and the over laid leather piece on the toe (vamp) .The over all leather has a soft texture .Very classy.

These boots are the best boot/shoe/sneaker/clog I have ever owned. They are soft and require no breaking in. They look just as well with black as they do with brown and are worth the price. I would recommend buying immediately because I got the last size 9 on the same day they were put on the site. Thank you Zappos for carrying such a unique style and quality. They run true to size. Your customer service is the best!

I wear a 10.5 running and dress shoe, a 10.0 or rarely a 9.5 desert combat boot (issue), and I ended up with size 9.0 Brando Engineers. Don't sweat ordering your correct size on the first try - Zappos customer service with exchanges is outstanding. As for the quality, I'm going to countersink the precarious nail heads on the heel, but otherwise, top-notch. Very impressed.

Very cool looking boots! I had to go up half a size from the Ariat Legend Phoenix and Ropers. The heels are around 1/8" higher than the Legend Phoenix boots so you may notice a difference when you first wear them. The insole is the 4LR, not the ATS but you can replace them since the ATS insoles are available separately. I haven't bothered yet.

Runs small & narrow.
I love the fact that these are vegan cowboy boots, yet they look like the real deal! They run small & narrow though. My husband is usually a size 9, and had to finally get a size 10 in order to get a good fit that was long enough and not too narrow. He's gotten many compliments on these boots... they are sharp-looking!

These are wonderful boots. I wear an 8.5; however, on the advice of a previous reviewer, I ordered a size 8. They fit beautifully! Goat skin leather much more supple than cowhide and gives an "already broken-in" feel on the first wearing. Deep red color is lovely. Love these boots.

These are the most comfortable right out of the box cowboy boots I’ve ever purchased. Great looking and everyone wants to know where I got those boots! One note on Old Gringo, go a half-size smaller than your usual shoe size. Absolutely love ‘em!

These boots are beautiful! I've worn them four or five times now and OUCH! I bought some inserts for them, but there are still places that rub. It feels like there is a staple or nail in the toe of the left boot that really hurts. Maybe with time they will break in.

LOVE these shoes. Slightly narrow at the toe for someone w/ a wide foot, but they’re worth it. I’ve gotten more praise for these shoes than I have for a pair of shoes in a long time. True to size on the length. Slightly tippy, and the wood is a bit soft so it can dent, but I still LOVE them!

Overall this was a great buy. Customer service is so helpful. I bought this boot in my normal size (6.5) and it fit like a glove. They should feel snug the first few times you wear them, and even mine are still a little snug with boot socks, but I'd personally rather have a more snug boot than one that's too loose and kicking up in heel too much. Don't concentrate on the heel. Just make sure your toes aren't squished in the toe-box, and concentrate on how the topside of the boot conforms to the top of your foot. That part should be comfortably snug, as that's what keeps the boot on your foot when you walk. NOT the heel. The heel will always kick up a little bit, especially in the beginning before the sole has had enough wear to bend and become more flexible. Mine has very little kick now. I recommend buying in your normal size (Lucchese is known for being very standard about sizing) and if you feel it's too snug order 1/2 a size up. Or be bold if you don't mind the temporary charge on the credit card and buy 2 pairs--one normal size, and one half a size up and you can't go wrong! Just return whichever feels less comfortable, and only walk on carpeted areas to ensure you get your money refunded. Hope this helps! You won't regret a Lucchese--you might with other brands, but you will never regret a Lucchese fit.

These shoes are very simple yet comfortable and true to size. They compare to Dansko which is what I originally tried but I did not like my heel coming out and the size felt too big. I am on my feet up to 12 hrs at work and these provide long lasting comfort. You can also use a shoe insert for extra cushion if needed.

These are really great looking and very fashion forward, a great look for a Frye shoe. I'm only 5 FT so I really love the height they give me. I got blisters the first day I wore them, so choose a day you don't have to walk all over town to break them in. The leather is fantastic quality; Frye will never let you down as far as the quality goes. These look great with leggings, jeans, shorts. They are definitely a very cool shoe, you'll be happy with the look. I've worn them several times since the first painful day, and since then they have been fine. :)

I purchased the American West Zip Top Fashion Tote. The picture doesn't do it justice. When it arrived I was so pleased and couldn't wait to see what all I could fit inside. Got the black version of this little shirt for an outdoor wedding at a Northern California ranch. Perfect fancy-casual. The shirt is very well made and the detail work really done well. It's form fitting in the western style. I usually wear a size 6 or 8 top and this size small fit well. Love the shirt. Perfect for the occasion and I'll wear it again often.

It is a relief to know that if I purchase something and it doesn't work out you will pay for the return shipping. My husband found a shoe here locally and they didn't have the size, and he was very disappointed because he was sure they would be perfect in the next size down.
