I just purchased a pair of these, and of the Columbia Mineola in the same size. I don't know how the same company that makes the Mineola, which is probably the most comfortable boot I've ever put on my foot, could also make this boot, which is about the most uncomfortable thing I've put on my foot in my life. The whole boot is stiff and boxy-feeling; the tongue is very stiff also and both edges dig into my foot a lot. I understand the concept of "breaking in time", but I cannot imagine how this boot could ever be comfortable. I am sending it back.

I was wearing my new boots when I received the email asking if I wanted to review them. I am always a little leery with new shoes and especially boots that I will get a blister while I am breaking them in. No need to worry - they were comfortable right from the start and had a lot of support. We have had a lot of snow and ice in Indiana this winter and I felt a lot more secure on the slippery walkways with my new Columbia boots!

Great hiking boot that I would highly recommend. I bought these right before traveling to Iceland and they hardly needed any breaking in. They were a lifesaver on the at times rough terrain of the Icelandic countryside! Great ankle support, good arch support (I have flat feet). And they were a great price as well.

Great fitting, very comfortable boot and a great value. This is my second pair of these boots and I love them. I use them everyday at my job and they hold up extremely well against water. I would definitely recommend them for the frequent hiker and outdoor enthusiast!

I walk a LOT and wanted boots that would be practical, comfortable and water-tight against slushy NYC winters. These were comfy straight out of the box. I also love the classic design--no stripes or fluorescent colors. I still need to test them against puddles and slush. If they hold up, I'll probably order a backup pair.

Zappos and the shoes are both great! Fast shipping from Zappos. Shoe tested in rain and snow, remained warm and dry.

I bought a pair of Newton Ridge 2 for my wife and we were disappointed to find out the ankle support wouldn't close all the way around. There are two 1/2" openings left on either side of the tongue which take everything away from an otherwise great looking pair of boots. I have always trusted Columbia to make high quality products and I truly hope they pay more attention to this kind of detail in future hiking boot designs.

I was hiking in Utah slot canyons in the water in tennis shoes. Got horrible sores on my Achilles from waterlogged shoes. I had still another week of hiking to do, and was unable to wear the waterlogged shoes. Also, rain and cooler weather was expected for the next week. Found these in a local store. They fit like slippers and did not irritate my bruised Achilles. I hiked on wet slickrock in Zion National Park for the next week without a single hot spot. They had good grip on slick surfaces. They were completely waterproof, though they were new. The boots seem plasticky, not sure if they are real leather, but they kept my feet dry and not sweaty. The sole isn't super rigid like true backpacking boots, but feel more slipper-like and comfortable. Great out of the box. Perfect for day hiking. They'll be my go to day hikers for all conditions.

These shoes are lightweight, true to size, and no breaking in required. I wore them all day the first time I put them on and didn't have any discomfort.

These are very sturdy boots. The hooks that hold the laces are hard plastic so they do not bend repeatedly like flimsy metal ones. They are very stain resistant. I have been wearing them at my warehouse job for about a month and they still look brand new. They provide a good grip as well.

I love these boots. The style is clean and the color goes well with anything, Whether you're hiking or walking in the city in cold weather (I used them on a vacation to NYC) they're durable and a really great pair of waterproof shoes to have. My feet stayed dry and warm in 40 degree weather, and I was comfortable enough to walk all day. They didn't need much breaking in at all. I would definitely recommend Columbia Newton Ridge 2.

I am pretty happy with these boots. I bought them as light boots for winter walking and so far so good. As someone else mentioned, the tongue is very thick and doesn't want to lie in place, but I expect it to mash down with more use.

I love these boots. The first day I wore them for an entire day without any discomfort. I usually wear a 6 and 1/2, but they were out of that size, so I ordered a 6, and they fit perfectly.
Brands I'd also recommend: Have not tried any other brands.

I ordered these for day hiking, they arrived in 2 days! And I finally tried them this weekend. We did a short 3 mile hike with a small back on. The boot is pretty stiff, needs a little more breaking in (in my opinion) than other people say on this. I had a few blisters. Lots of room in the toe box, nice cushion around the ankles. True to size, great price for a good brand. Overall, I'm happy with my purchase, just gotta break them in before doing any serious hikes.

Nice style, waterproof, nice ankle support. But I found them to be heavy especially with mud on them. I have flat feet, and after about 6 miles - I had some blisters in the insole on my feet. I would return them but they have already been broken in, and I don't have the original packaging. This is normally a good brand, but I felt it fell short this time. I would recommend getting something else. You really don't want to compromise a good hiking boot.

Don't buy this if you are looking for a rugged hiking boot. I am a field biologist; and hike over a thousand miles every summer. I've never been able to keep a pair of boots (no matter the brand or price) for more than one season. This boot is already starting to fall apart. The front of the boot where the sole meets the toe is already coming apart. I have only hiked in these for three weeks. While they have gotten soaked on several occasions, there is no reason they should have this much damage in only three weeks. I'm sure this boot would hold up to occasional trail hiking, but do not purchase it if you intend to actually use it roughly.

I have very large, flat, narrow feet, so I thought I would never find hiking boots. These worked out well once I added memory foam insoles and heavy socks to help fill out the boot. They are very comfortable. I also like the eyelet lacing. It is far easier to get the boots off and on with this feature. I ordered 6 other styles of boots, and these worked out the best. That being said, if my feet were not so hard to fit, there were other better boots, but they cost a lot more. These were a good value.
