The Homestead Boot is my third pair of Chippewa Service Style boot. I wanted to try something a bit different (my other Service boots are the Black Odessa and the classic Cordovan boot). I wanted to have a boot with a cap toe design, and I am so pleased to say that these boots are not only fantastic and complement my other two pairs, but they already have received countless comments about how classy they look! A few comments about Chippewa's boots and then this boot in particular. Their Service style boot is made to last - great leather, a solid Goodyear Welt, perfect stitching and solid soles. The break in period is next to nothing and I have found that I can wear a new pair of boots all day long on the very first day. You can make these boots look like new in five minutes if you use quality shoe care product. The Homestead boot is a two-tone boot. The toe is almost a cordovan color, rich and consistent and makes the shoe pop. The remainder of the leather is a medium brown. The pair I received is almost identical to the picture. I find Chippewa boots (Service and Homestyle) run true to size. I also have RedWing Beckman's and Wolverine 1000 milers - I find those products (which are excellent) run at least half size large (the Wolverines may run a full size large). However, I am size 11½ and the Chippewa's are a true fit. You cannot go wrong with these boots. Buy a pair. Or three pair like I did. There is not a lot of arch support; but I always use a quality insert like Superfeet to provide support and comfort. You should take this into consideration when you decide on your size.

Awesome boots. Came as advertised. Zappos as always is amazing. Love the thick leather and feel of a handmade boot.

Great looking, soft&supple leather, comfortable and as elegantly styled a work boot as you will ever see. I can't recommend them highly enough, great for work or, cleaned up and during winter, out on the town, to diner etc as they go great with all types of jeans...ordered a 9 and knew immediately they where a full size to big but that seems to be the case with most boots as same thing happened with Frye boots I ordered.

The boots are fairly comfortable right out of the box, but I do think they'll require some break-in time. The tread/sole of these are pretty useless on anything other than dry, textured ground. You may as well be wearing roller skates when walking in these on snow or mud. I like the boot but am wishing I had chosen something with more of a tread.

I picked these boots for some serious caving, but I love them so much they are rapidly becoming part of my regular wear. I take a woman's size 8.5 and ordered a men's seven, which is perfect with thick socks. No break-in to speak of; comfortable right out of the box. I love the way they look, but above all I love the way they feel.

After reading reviews ordered 1/2 size down (9.5). After 2 day moderate discomfort breaking in these boots fit like a glove, Super comfortable and stylish. Can be worn with jeans/chinos/corduroy's. I give these boots a 10+.

I had a pair of Red Wing Iron Rangers. I prefer the look of the IR's but not by much. These are really nice. I'll compare the two since I bet many of you are looking to make the decision of which to get. First off, I am in between a 7.5 and 8 in Red Wings. 8's are a little too big, and 7.5's are a little tight. The IR's I have are 7.5's. I got an 8 in the Chippewa Homesteads. Fit: The IR's were really narrow, tight in the toe box. They did mold around my feet pretty well. The big issue for me was the toe cap was basically where my feet "folded" when I walked and they cut into my feet. The Chippewas toe cap is much smaller and just covers my toes. Not even close to the foot fold when I walk. They are also a bit wider than the IR's. (Win: Chippewa) Color/Look: I got the Crazy Horse and they aren't the nice deep brown that you see in the picture. Almost more of a greyish/brown. High Quality leather can have variations though. The IR's color is second to none. (Win: Red Wings) Soles: Neither have very good insoles at all. If you need the support/comfort, then I would get a half size larger than you would if you didn't use the insoles. I actually prefer not having insoles. The IR outsoles are TERRIBLE. 100% flat. I live in MPLS and the ice/snow is brutal with the RWs. The Chippewas have a nice Vibram outsole and actually have some tread to them. (Win: Chippewa) Price: Red Wing Iron Rangers are more than the Chippewas (Win: Chippewa) Overall, I'm going to sell my Red Wings. I love these Chippewas so far. My other RW's have lasted years, and this is my first pair of Chippewas. If these last as I expect they will, I'll no doubt be getting more in the future.

I got these boots for my son and he loves them. The quality is superior and they can be worn all day comfortably as he climbs up and down hills. Zappos has great customer service. I'm happy with my purchase.

Very comfortable, nice-looking boots...until the sole detached after 10 months of very light use. Completely unacceptable level of quality for a boot at this price level.

I bought these for my son who wanted a sturdy workboot. He liked them very much, saying they are very comfortable. He normally wears a size 14 but the size 13 fit him better so they probably do run a bit large.

These have a very stiff footbed. They will take some time to break in. They are made from heavy duty leather. They are built in the true Chippewa tradition work boot with a bit more style.

The 9½ that I got look a bit narrower than those pictured. They are snug width wise, but I expect that they will break in with wear. Otherwise they are comfortable and swank looking.

These are nice boots! I drive a flatbed truck and need steel toed boots for my job. I treat them terribly and they have held up amazingly well. I tend to crush the lace posts down, but I think that would happen with any boots. These fit me, so I will be ordering another pair in the next few months.

True to size. Very comfortable and great ankle support. I wear them for 12-hour shifts and my feet never hurt. They are holding up well so far.

This is my first pair of Chipewa boots. I have had Red Wings, Vasque, Keen, Danner etc in the past. These boots have a very open toe box. I have kind of narrow feet and they are very wide. The soles seem like they will be tough and hold up but the upper leather is very flimsy. These boots have the soles of expensive boots and the leather of a cheap pair of boots. They do not have a lot of cushion in the soles either. These boots are for occasional use only not 40 hours a week. Good luck.

GREAT 6" LIGHT DUTY BOOT PROVIDING GOOD VALUE Picked these up for use as dedicated truck boots. Normally wear 11.5B, the 10.5D size fit snugly all around. Oiled up (thirsty) and changed laces prior to wearing. Leather is supple and seems break-in will be uneventful. Tongue is only partially gusseted, but that's very common in this price point. Really like the traditional last profile used on these boots, compared to other brands which simply do not properly capture my foot. Have high arches, and enough room to use full length arch insert without discomfort. Fit & finish are all as expected, no out of the box issues experienced. Stitching is uniform throughout, nothing loose. Welt is in line; no sole or heel issues. Leather has no unexpected surface blemishes. Overall, this is a solidly constructed, made in USA boot providing good value. I can recommend to anyone looking at this price point without hesitation. Good job Chippewa! I bought these EXPENSIVE boots a few months ago. They were quite a bit larger than the advertised size, but I put in some cushioned insoles, and fixed that right up. They are CERTAINLY a boot that will require a breaking-in period before they are comfortable, but that is to be expected. My issue is this- after a relatively short period of wear- the black of the leather is scraping off to show the grey underneath. I do not use these boots for work, or other rough activities, so they do not get banged around. I wear them around town, and for evenings out. I have some leather dye I will apply to the EXTENSIVE area of leather damage- but I doubt to will look as nice as they did when I got them. I bought these about a year ago, but did not start wearing them regularly until three months ago, so this deterioration happened very quickly. I am disappointed I spent this kind of money to get such a result.

What's interesting is the reaction that these boots provoked. Normally, guys don't comment on other guy's shoes. But there is something about this boot that has random strangers and delivery men saying how good they look. Like 3x a day!!! I normally wear a size 11 and that was the right size for the boot, as well. They are hard but I haven't felt a need to add an insole. My feet aren't tired at the end of the day, either. What I like most is that I am a design professional. These boot move with lan between client meetings and construction sites. I can dress them up or dress them down.

To sum it up, what a great boot! I got this pair to use as my everyday kicks. They are comfortable once broken in, which does not take long. I have been a lineman for the past 25 years and always buy Chippewa . They stand up to all kinds of weather, just take care of them and put Sno Seal on every few months. My first pair of Chippewas lasted over 10 years. I had them resoled twice and yes I had to reglue the soles here and there through the years, but that is expected when you use them daily. Nothing is going to last forever. Do yourself a favor, stop shopping right now and buy these boots. When you get them, throw some Sno Seal on them, which darkens them up in a nice way, and start breaking them in. An awesome boot that is made in an awesome country.
