First off these are beautiful shoes with great leather, stitching and hardware. BUT the stiffness in the heel backing feels like a blister waiting to happen (not a millimeter of give). Add onto that that the laces need to be cinched up like a fat girl in a corset to avoid heel slip (seriously, the heel has the same waxy smooth leather INSIDE the heel bed but nowhere else inside). Who needs a shoe horn when you have one built I guess... Everything about actually wearing this boot rubs me the wrong way, literally.

The Chippewa (55160? 55161? style but before the "comp toe") boots were the best I have ever worn. They lasted three years in a brutal sand-casting foundry environment walking over steel, gravel, rough concrete, hot sand, oil, grease, water, etc., and even then the soles did not wear through. Then I tried to order another pair and alas, the "comp toe" was instituted and gone were the shoes that fit and felt great. I can't say enough bad about the "comp toe": The boot may still be true to size, but the "comp toe" apparently comes in one narrow skin-shredding toe-rubbing unyielding size. I have tried several sizes through Zappos, but alas, Chippewa is ruined until that miserable "comp toe" is removed. I wear a 9.5 5E although I managed to get by with the 3E from Chippewa without discomfort. Chippewa is far superior to Propet in durability and quality of the seal between the sole and the leather upper (Propet starts coming apart within a few months of squatting and the Propet sole only lasts about 10 months before the sole wears through). Please remove the miserable "comp toe" from the best boot made! At least give us a choice, there are still some of us who tell OSHA to go to hell where they belong. Sincerely, David Parker

This is the second pair of the same shoe that I've ordered. They're holding up extremely well, fit perfectly, and are very comfortable. I walk 4 to 5 miles per day in them. Zapped delivery was extremely quick. Will order from Zappos again.

I have had this boot for about 5 weeks, and there appears to be delamination from the welt and the sole, which to me even for a cheap shoe would be unacceptable, I've read about these types of problems with Vibram soles before but was not expecting it to still be happening, will be contacting Zappos shortly to see how to resolve this, I expect most shoes, specially work boots to perform for at least 6 months, this is does not lend Chippewa a good name. Will look at other brands in the future.

As soon as the boots arrived I tried them on with excitement. They fit pretty well, I ordered a half size up and wide and there were no issues. Went I went to the remove the tag I noticed a warning label "Warning, this product contains materials known to the State of California to cause cancer or reproductive toxicity". After reading the warning I packed up the boots and washed my hands. The boots are made in China and are toxic! Don't buy them. Shame on Chippewa for producing such a cheap product! I am returning them today. I am very disappointed...

Great boots, just a little big initially. Sized about 1/2 size bigger than my other Chippewa boots I've owned for several years. Returned first purchase of size 12 and purchased size 11 1/2.

This Homestead Boot is fantastic. I originally chose the Red Wing Iron Rangers due to their popularity and reputation, but I found the width to be terribly narrow--my foot is anything but wide. The IRs are offered in a 2E width, but I opted to have a shot at the Chippewas and I'm glad I did! These are exactly what I wanted: hand crafted, made in USA, classic, timeless, resole/heel-able. If this silhouette and description is what you are looking for in a boot you will be well served by these.

I bought these boots because I needed a steel toe for my workplace activities. I am super pleased! The leather uppers look great, and the sole won't pick up mud when I'm outside. I first ordered the 10.5, but returned it for the 10. I wish it was a bit wider, if so I may be able to use the 9.5. I am still breaking them in by wearing them every other day, but it's going great. They are a bit heavy, but they are a lot of boot. I had some Finnish shoe grease I put on them and they darkened slightly and look even better. These aren't make pretend boots, I highly recommend them!

Best boots ever! I took the advice of earlier reviews and ordered them smaller than what I'd usually wear. I wear a 11.5 D in everything and ordered these in 10.5 EE and they fit perfectly. There was no break in time for me at all. Solid construction throughout the boot and with a heavy sock I can wear them all day without any discomforts at all. I'd absolutely order more from Chippewa and am deciding what pair(s) I want. They are absolutely expensive, but these are going to last me for years.

I have three different pairs of Chippewa boots. The original pair needs to be resoled after four years of almost daily wear. Well worth the money.

By far the most comfortable shoes I own. They have great arch support and a comfortable insole so you can walk/stand/work for long periods in them without your feet hurting. They are surprisingly light weight while still feeling strong and durable. They have pretty good traction. I wore them out in the ice/snow and didn't have any problems with slipping. They take a few wears to break in. I usually wear a 10 and sometimes a 10.5. I ordered 9.5 in these and they fit just right.

Just got these boots a few days ago. First of all they are much more stunning in real life compared to the photos. Excellent craftsmanship. They look and feel tough as nails. I own a couple different pairs of Chippewas and mostly they run true to size. These though I'd say run half a size larger. I usually wear a 10.5, but based on other reviews of other Chippewas, I bought a 10 in other boots and came to find out they were indeed too small after a lot of wear...so I did move up to 10.5 and found that was much more comfortable. With these boots, I wore the 10.5 round the house and it really felt like it was a bit of a clown shoe because the end was much longer and I felt like I was going to trip...so I ordered the 10 and those are a better fit. Chippewas are tough and reliable. I use them to work outside quite a bit. They feel very comfortable after the break in period, but then most boots do require that. I wear a light or medium weight Smartwool sock or thick Dickies socks and those really help with padding and support. Whatever sock you will wear most with your boots is what you should wear when you try it on. Stick with USA made boots! There are several brands out there like Chippewa that make quality, reliable boots as well.

So far, so good. Comfortable fit. Warmer than dress shoes. Safer in icy conditions. Look great.

Fantastic boots. Mine ran a little long, but I still love them. Durable, wear well, and so many compliments.

My husband needed new all purpose, all weather boots that were waterproof, and these had great reviews and looked perfect. They are more heavy duty than the average person probably needs, but they are very nice looking (it's hard to find nice looking boots in wide sizes) and seem very well made. They do seem to run large, so I will have to return them. He normally wears a size 12, 4E width. I accidentally ordered a size 12 in 3E width, and they were too long but wide enough. The toe is reinforced which makes the toe box spacious, and he really liked that, since usually his toes are squished into shoes, his feet being wider than most. Still, it's nice having options for footwear for wide sizes on Zappos.

These are a great boot that I use while on my motorcycle. They felt good out of the box and even better each time I wear them. Once they are broken in with the crease at the toe they should be perfect. They are heavy as expected so bring some walking shoes if needed on a trip. Oh yeah, they grip the asphalt like no other!

I bought those shoes for my husband when his shoes become too slippery for the winter. Those shoes provide much better traction.

Super comfortable and great looking (after the silly flag was removed). Order a full size smaller. Why even have sizes if not standardized?

Would like to give these 5 star because they originally started out at it. They are comfortable and stylish, and thought to be pretty solid as far as construction until the sole started coming apart over the past week. I've only had them about 2 months too and at the price point these should last a lot longer.
