Bostonian Reviews
The shoe looks very good and feels pretty good, but the first few days I wore them my ankles were getting scraped pretty badly. I think this might just be adjusting to the shoe though. Either way, looks great and feels great now.
Two years ago I purchased a similar shoe from ecco and it looked great but was a little too narrow in the toe box. I lived with the shoe compressing my toes for a while but finally got annoyed on a long business trip and decided to fin a wider shoe. Zappos is my shoe vendor of choice so I surfed the models and makers until I found the style most near the ecco style that I liked and picked this Mendon. Ordered it in the "wide" size and couldn't be happier. My forefoot has room to spread out, the sole is rubberized for traction and they are very light. If you get the correct size for your foot you will love this loafer.
Super comfortable. I was worried the collar would be too stiff, but I didn't feel it. Good width at the ball of the feet. I was on my feet all day in these and didn't have any discomfort or blisters. Well made, good looking shoe.
My husband doesn't have a particularly wide foot, but he couldn't even get his foot in. The top of the shoe is tight and narrow so we aren't even sure if they are comfortable or true to size because there wasn't enough give for him to get his foot in.
I have worn them for last 20 years. Very soft and comfortable. In fact I don't even look for other brands.
A good every day shoe for either wearing with your formal or business casual attire. You can also use this with jeans. I'm comfortable for walking. I walk around NYC around in these shoes and i'm happy with it. It's obviously not a pair of sneakers where you can walk the whole day but I definitely recommend it.
This is my third pair of Bostonians through Zappos and second identical purchase of this shoe. Shoes hold up great, are true to fit, look beautiful out of the box, and feel good on my feet.
Great shoes, well built and designed. The leather is a bit hard and takes a bit of breaking in, but the design is beautiful and I have gotten many compliments from these shoes.
Loved the size, comfort and style of this shoe but it was a little lighter in color in person than as seen online.
Very nice looking shoe, but extremely uncomfortable to wear. The bar across the top rubs on my in-step and is very annoying. I am returning.
These are nice shoes. Very comfortable, if slightly snug (for me, at least). However... The big issue with them is that they are *extremely* slippery when walking on smooth wet surfaces. I can't count the number of times I've slipped when wearing these shoes in the rain. (Luckily I haven't fallen.) I now avoid wearing these shoes when the forecast calls for rain.
I bought these to replace a similar pair of Bostonian captoed shoes but found these to be 1/2 size too big. Also, that piece of elastic by the lacing seems like a bad idea: in my experience, the only thing it did was help the shoe slide off your heel as you walk.
I love the shoes, but they're really not durable enough. I've worn them to work every day for 6 months and the soles are giving out. I'm not buying two pairs a year.
Good looking, comfortable, needed a little stretching to fit well...liked the style and the pricing was significantly less than Feragamo, which also had some great styles.
I was replacing an incredibly comfortable tired old pair of very expensive dress shoes and didn't really expect to find a viable replacement at half the price of my expensive Italian loafers. this shoe is perfect with a contemporary cut and extremely comfortable. I think the key to online shopping is trusting the vendor. Amazon and Zappos are the two of the most reliable, trustworthy on web or brick and mortar.
I bought these for my husband because he has very wide feet. Its a very comfortable shoe and his feet don't feel pinched and he didn't need to break in the shoes at all. My only issue with this shoe is that the gold buckle on the front came off the leather. We can't tuck it back in or even rip it off because it left holes in the leather from where it was originally fastened. It now ends up flapping along and looks awful. Too bad this happened because its a well made shoe except for the inferior trimming.
I have the same shoe under a different brand name. I had chrome leather (suede) installed on the sole (at a local shoe repair shop) converting them specifically as ballroom dance shoes for the past couple of years. I have a hard time finding dance shoes which generally run too narrow for my 3Es and high arches. They are very comfortable shoes, super lightweight and flexible - all necessary for dancing. They have performed well continue to hold up, still look and feel great.
Zappos service is great. Fast delivery as always. The shoes looked fine out of the box, Put them on, spent 10 minutes inside house, felt good. I went outside, my daughter had an honor night at school. I had them on even a full hour - two blisters. I read reviews carefully, overall - people had great experience. I am most seriously displeased. I never had blisters in my life. I am unable to return them now, I guess. I will never buy Bostonian again. This was my first and last time.
We'll be sending these back. The styling is fine, but the quality is terrible. The lace hole tore as my husband tried to tie the lace when trying them on.
My son, age 23, loves these. He usually wears a size 16 in athletic shoes, but found that he needed to size down to a 15 in dress shoes. He plans to wear these in a wedding. They are very nice looking and stylish.
