These are real boots, not fashion boots, but they have the neatest features of any real boot that I own - and I own plenty of both kinds. They could almost make it as fashion boots. (For those of you thinking about getting them for that reason, they will look very bulky with your skinny jeans.) They have a lavender lining and great detailing on all the metal parts, so they don't look like your husband's boots. I have owned Ariat boots for many years, and these lacers are exactly what I would have expected. The sole is composite but smooth, so they don't pick up that much in the barn even though you won't easily slip in them. They easily run a half size big - maybe a full size. These are boots to plan on wearing for a decade.

I ordered a 6.5 I usually wear 6.5 or 7. They were too big so I ended up with a 5.5 and they fit great. Love Zappos, they sent me the smaller size before I even sent back the shoes. I ended up taking off the leather fringe thing, I think it made the shoe look too clunky. I live in the desert and these are perfect winter shoes.

I could not believe that I could get a perfect fit from online orders. The Lacer not only fits well but is very sturdy. It goes well with casual or dress-up attire. I have been looking for a lace up shoe that would support a weakened arch and this shoe fit the bill. Thank you, Zappos

About Ariat
So they assembled a group of top footwear engineers and designers, and set them on the task of creating the world's most technically innovative performance riding boots. They started by re-designing the outsole, rethinking the arch support system and finally taking a hard look at the suitability of "traditional" last shape and fit. While they were building the technology platform for Ariat boots, they were also talking to hundreds of top riders who helped in the design and development of the final product.
In 1993, Ariat shipped their first pair of boots, and today Ariat is the world leader in performance equestrian footwear, offering a full range of English and Western riding boots, work boots and casual footwear – plus new lines of performance apparel and accessories to fully outfit today’s equine athletes and equestrian-inspired lifestyle enthusiasts.
Whether you are a professional equestrian athlete or a novice rider, you will find an Ariat boot with the performance technology that is perfect for you. Ariat boots cushion the foot while stabilizing the heel and arch, dramatically reducing fatigue and stress to the feet, legs and lower back. This amazing technology can also be found in a variety of casual Ariat shoes – providing you with comfortable and stylish alternative for those relaxed, easy-going days.

These are great boots. However, they do run large, as I later found out by reading reviews after I ordered my normal size. But, when I went down 1/2 size, they fit great.

Really great boots. I bought them for showing in horse shows. Very comfortable. I wore them all day and had no problems. No break in necessary. I wear an 8, but got a 7.5 and they were perfect! I also have very narrow feet and these fit like a glove. So if your feet are wide, they might not work. I have several Ariat boots and they are always comfy right out of the box!

I love these boots. I've been looking for at least five years to replace boots much like this that I couldn't find anymore. These boots do run a little big, though. I tried my normal size, 7, and they were so huge I went all the way down and tried a 6. A little tight. So finally I tried a 6.5 and they were just right. So comfortable, in fact, that they required no breaking in time, felt great from the first moment. Also, I have high arches and need great arch support or my feet cramp up. These are great, and my feet never hurt at the end of the day, and no cramping up. I immediately ordered the brown pair! Love 'em! I'm all set for years!

I love these. They're very comfortable and versatile. As other reviewers mentioned, these aren't dainty little boots - they have a slightly "tough" look to them. I'm not sure yet about the kilts - but they are easily removed, so I might take them off for a simpler look. These do seem to run a little bit big both in length & width. I ordered an 8 and could have gone with a 7.5.

I bought these last fall on a whim. I searched Zappos for black, leather, lace up boots. I wasn't sure what I was looking for, but by process of elimination - these won out. The price was right and I really enjoyed every last detail on the boot - from the kilts down to the engraved shoelace hooks. Right out of the box, these looked fantastic on my feet. I only wear skinny jeans; these look great with your pants tucked into them, or with your pants pulled over. I also love wearing them with skirts. They have a slight, tough-looking, military edge to them, but at the same time they are never clunky. I wear them with everything from over-sized flannel shirts and torn denim to lace camisoles. They always seem to work and I always get compliments. Now, the best part - they are extremely comfortable! I work a job where I'm on hard concrete for 50 hours a week. Danskos were my salvation, but attractive - they were not. I was able to swap these in, and (excepting a few crazy Christmas shopping days) I experienced no comfort loss compared to the Danskos. Arch support and a slight heel give support to your legs and keeps your back nice and straight. So, I basically wore these every day in the fall, winter, and spring in cold and miserable Vermont. They were also very warm, very waterproof, and easy to clean if I stepped in a puddle of salt/slush. Now I see stores like Urban Outfitters and TopShop selling look-a-likes of these boots. There's no way they could match the Ariat in terms of comfort and workmanship.

I absolutely love these boots! After trying many brands and styles including Dr. Martens and fitzwell, I lucked across this brand in someone's review. My feet are hard to fit. They are wide, the left is half a size smaller, and I have arthritis and a cyst in my large toe. These, however, fit comfortable. I was worried the right foot might be a little loose in the heel area, but after wearing them two full days now I can say they didn't need breaking in time. These should be the perfect shoe for everyday wear and trips. I didn't have a problem with the heaviness of the shoe, like some people.

This is a great pair of boots! They have wonderful arch support, are very well made. The manufacturer seem to expect them to last beyond the life of the very sturdy soles. They even offer re-soling services. This is not a glamor shoe, but it is not clunky. It looks fine with pants. I like the kiltie, but it is removable if a buyer wished to take it off. They are very comfortable for all day wear. I originally bought my usual size (11) but it was too long. The size 10 fits me well.

I’m very happy with these boots. Appearance: stylish enough for work. I like them better with the decorative kiltie even though it’s not my usual style. I’ve had several compliments on them. Fit and comfort: runs a bit large. Would order a half size smaller next time and see how they fit. I’m wearing with double socks. The leather is soft yet sturdy. They are comfortable walking shoes. Utility: I wanted a boot that would protect and support my ankles for riding my scooter to work, yet look nice enough to wear with slacks. These boots were just the ticket. The soles are "grippy" enough to provide the needed traction for riding a motorscooter. Quality: The boots seem very well made. I’m not hard on my shoes, but based on other reviews here, it appears they hold up well.

This style is very popular on sites like Urban Outfitters and Topshop right now. I love the trend, but didn't want to pay tons of money for something that is poorly made. I stumbled upon the Ariat Heritage Lacer II and was impressed with all the (+) reviews. My boots arrived last night and I was very happy with their appearance. The soles have excellent tread and provide support that you won't find in similar boots. Good quality leather too. My only warning to the ladies: these boots are not dainty. Not super clunky, but if you are self-conscious about your foot size (I'm a 9.5), just be aware that they won't do you any extra favors in that department. Definitely recommend this to others. Plus, if you get sick of the kiltie style, you can remove it and are left with nice black boots.

These boots are great. I took the tassel off and like the look better. They are great with wool socks, and they keep my feet warm. I love the combat boot look with jeans.

These boots are a good buy: good leather, good enough leather and fabric interior, plus a brilliantly designed sole which provides amazing support. The patented Ariat stabilizing "system" is not hype: it provides great comfort, a really stable fit, and is made from long-lasting materials. My first pair of Ariat lace-up boots were my go-to boots for walking in all seasons, and they lasted 15 years (not kidding). (I oiled them several times a year with a good quality leather cream; that's all I did to take care of them.) Predictably, given the nearly universal decline in manufacturing standards, this pair is slightly less well made than my first pair, but is still good quality. They are not clunky, and I can wear them with casual or business clothes. I just bought a pair for my 81-year-old mother, who needs to be steady on her feet. At first she wasn't thrilled with the lace-up height and the sort of work boot look, but she is now sold on the fit and comfort as I am. Five stars all around!

I don't ride horses, but I like Ariats. These are super cute and very comfortable. They do feel slightly like a work boot; the tiniest bit clunky, but that may just be because they run a little on the large side. A half size down may fit more like what you'd expect from an every-day boot if you're not wearing them with thick socks.
