Nice shoes that take a bit of breaking in. The toe box is smaller than other shoes I am used to, but they have become more comfortable with each wearing.

I've had this pair of shoes for a month. It's a very comfortable pair of shoes: light and well-fitted with thick soles for cushion. However, the leather isn't as glossy as it shows on the picture and when I applied some brown shoe polish to one, I almost ruined its natural color. Make sure you use brown shine sponge for gloss, not the conventional shoe polish. Nonetheless for its price, this pair is definitely a bang for the buck!

Great look but comfort questionable - I bought this shoe about 2 1/2 months ago and wear it 2-3 times a week. The shoe has a great look, however, it feels too narrow, and the leather continues to feel stiff. I find this shoe to be very uncomfortable after a few hours. I'm still hopeful the leather will soften enough to improve the comfort. I'd recommend a size wider than usual.

I got these in the merlot. Great looking shoes with a nice fit. Perhaps a bit narrow, but comfortable. Noticeable high quality. I suspect I'll be wearing these shoes for years.

Very high quality shoe. Excellent workmanship. I love the design, contemporary, but still conservative. The leather is quite stiff and will require several wearings to start feeling really comfortable. My past experience with Allen Edmonds shoes is extremely positive.

Good Shoes Don't Need Break-In - I have heard it said and firmly believe that you should never get shoes that need break-in. If a shoe needs to be broken in to fit and feel comfortable, then don't get it. These shoes are expensive, very good looking, and outstanding quality. Out of the box, they fit perfectly and are very comfortable. They are fully leather lined and you can wear them with slacks, jeans, maybe even a light tan suit. I flinched at the price... but I expect these shoes will last a long time. I fully expect that if the need were to arise, the sole can be easily renewed.

The Allen-Edmonds McAllister is the epitome of the businessman's wing-tip dress shoe. Originally manufactured in the mid 1950's, and recently reintroduced, its design stresses tradition and value without the excesses of contemporary trends. Allen-Edmonds shoes are very well made in the U.S.A, and although more expensive than many other brands, their shoes are steps above in quality, fit, and appearance. If you appreciate substance, as well as a style that endures for decades, try on a pair of McAllisters.

My husband's favorites! I had my husband try them on and wear them around the house before I told him the price. Once he had them on he got over the price quickly. They are comfortable, great looking, very well made and durable. Classic business shoe.

Beautiful Well Crafted Shoes - PROS: One continuous piece leather. Extremely easy to clean/shine. Simple but very elegant and enduring design. Flattering, enduring, classic shape, upper and sole. Durable high carbon rubber outsole heel for durability. Soft leather, little or no break in required for comfort. Fully leather lined interior to eliminate friction. Attention to details craftsmanship. CONS: Very traditional dress shoes, so no arch support if you need arch support. But there is some room if you add orthotics. Again, these are traditional dress shoes, so the soles are hard, stiff, a little noisy, slippery, not designed for long standing or far walking.

Snazzy shoe! A very dashing shoe! I gave it to my rather conservative husband for his birthday, & he loved the traditional lines of the shoe, combined with the snazzy, contrasting woven & smooth leathers. The shoe is different, attractive, but not outrageous!

Perfect Shoe! Beautiful and comfortable. An amazing sole absorbs all of the shocks during a day and the distressed leather gives a very cool appearance. Pricey, but worth every penny!

Allen-Edmonds Copley

Reviewer:Nick from Newark, DE

Overall Rating: (5 stars)

Allen-Edmonds crafts a very fine shoe, and the Copley lives up expectations. The sizing is perfect (11-D for me), and no break-in is necessary. The patent leather is substantial, featuring a very high gloss. The detailing, such as the black lacquered leather sole and traditional red leather lining, adds a measure of refinement, too. The shoe's proportions are determined by Allen-Edmonds number 8 welted last, which is now used on a number of their products, such as the McClain, Thayer, and Rawlins shoes. For formal events the Copley is well worth the expense.

I love this style and all of the Allen-Edmonds shoes I bought for professional wear. They are as comfortable as running shoes--minus the inappropriateness for many situations. I learned valuable lessons from Allen-Edmonds shoes, the first I bought (on sale) when getting my graduate degree. So I'll pass them on, because when they don't fit right, it might be your fault!!! The last--some shoes are on straight last, some on curved--just look at your footprint in some sand and compare to others. Lots of variation, yes? Not only that, but you may measure "normal" from heel to ball of your foot, and short thereafter, as was my case. So, I thought I wore a 9, when I really wore a 10.5. When I got my first pair of 10.5s, problem solved!!!! Some extra room in the front, but they fit where it COUNTS--heel to metatarsals, and higher arch (you Keds wearers now know why other kids work "tie shoes." Those lessons--different lasts plus size modificaton because of my short toes...plus number three, a quality LEATHER insole (typical for AE) and you have wear-em-all-day business/professional shoes. And no-one makes them better the Allen Edmonds. It is like buying American--you shouldn't be buying Asian cars, or Asian shoes, at least not right now. The shout "American" like pair of American made Justins or Lucchese boots. Go get 'em!

Lefty loosey, righty tighty - This is my second pair and I loved the first. This time, the left and right shoes were significantly different in fit (left MUCH looser than right though length was the same). As these are relatively expensive shoes, I was somewhat disappointed. The look and quality (except for the left one sometimes falling off) are great.

I couldn't wear the shoe long enough to determine comfort because it was not as wide as I needed although I ordered 3 EEE.

Great overall casual/dressy shoe - This is a great shoe for the casual office environment. It is well-made and very supportive. One great feature is the removable footbed, which allows for custom orthotics. This is a rare attribute in an upscale dressy shoe. The styling is up-to-date and will easily move from a casual setting to a slacks and sport coat affair. The leather used is soft and elegant-looking as well. Overall, I am very pleased with this shoe and I'm considering buying another pair in brown.

Comfort TBD - These shoes are built so sturdily that they are yet to be completely broken in after a couple of weeks of wear. Their size runs true, and I believe they will ultimately prove to be an extremely comfortable shoe. Style-wise they have a very classic feel with khakis and even a nice suit, but I do not see them working well with jeans. A very utilitarian pair of shoes; I am very satisfied with them.

Great shoe - Already own a few pairs of Allen Edmonds and I rated them a 4 out of 5 stars b/c I consider tennis shoes to be a 5. These are great, but require a long break in period. Highly recommended, just have to give it some time to break in.
