The first slot is the only one that uses power and does it ever hone a new edge! The finishing slots hold the blade in the perfect position. You do have to be careful of the newly sharpened blade, it is that sharp!

Brogna from San Francisco, CAOur needs for a coffee grinder are quite simple -- we only use it for perked coffee (yes -- we use an old-fashioned Faberware percolator -- like it much better than drip). The Breville grinder works great -- is quiet and fairly clean and grinds enough for 12 cups in 30 seconds.
