Our son walked the Pacific Crest Trail, 2680 miles, in these shoes. He started with a different brand, but switched, and wore thru 3 pairs of the Altra Lone Peaks. Our whole family now wears these shoes for running and hiking.

Oh, Altra. How I missed you. I’m not sure what you guys were thinking, or where you misplaced your brains for the last couple years, but I am *so glad* you found them again. If you knew the Lone Peak 2.5s, you know what I'm talking about. I ordered a pair in 2016 and promptly fell head over heels in love with them. They had a nice wide forefoot, a snug heel, and a supportive but non-interfering base, comfortably low to the ground. But then I waited too long to reorder and couldn’t find them anymore, as they’d been replaced by the Lone Peak 3.0. Which didn’t even look like it was made by the same company. For some reason the 3.0 had a crisp little V-shaped toebox. All that spacious room that had been so incredible for my wide FOOT-SHAPED feet (not to mention my Morton’s neuroma) was just—poof. Gone. I tried a couple other shoe models and they were all the same, shaped like women’s dress shoes instead of old-school Altras. So I mostly gave up on Altras and looked—often in vain—for a replacement. But I never quite forgot my first love, and this week I looked again. Y’all, the 4.0 is everything that the 2.5 was and that the 3.0 (and 3.5) wasn’t. Get you some. You’ll look a little bit like a duck with a nice wide forefoot, but oh my goodness will your feet thank you.

I've been wearing the Lone Peak shoes since the 2.5. I've had so many pairs... I've lost count. My favorite shoe. The Lone Peak 3.5 were not that great. For some reason, the toe box was more narrow (isn't a wide/foot shaped toe box the cornerstone of Altra??) and the shoe just didn't fit as well. I'm so so happy that the 4.0 is back to normal with the foot shaped toe box I expect (and my feet love). A great shoe. So comfortable and has good traction for trails. The Lone Peak is back to being my favorite shoe.

I was so happy to find that this Lone Peak 4 has the same wide toe box of the Lone Peak 2.5 that was lacking in the Lone Peak 3. I put them on and they were instantly comfortable. I went back and ordered 2 more pairs in different colors.

These shoes are undoubtedly comfortable. Due to the width of the toe box, they do not rub your toes at all, even with bunions or other foot deformaties. The zero drop nature of these shoes is problematic for many people who are used to having a lift in the heel. Over time, the tendons in your heels shorten and get tight, so transitioning back to zero drop can take time and may be uncomfortable at first. I have been wearing barefoot shoes for many years so this was not an issue. However, the shoe is generally unstructured to mimic more of a barefoot walking. For purposed of hiking long days with a pack, the lack of cushion and arch support in these shoes made them unworkable for me. While I didn't try them long enough to determine if they would eventually cause injury (knee issues etc.) I did find that after more than an hour my feet were simply fatigued.

I love the style. Great trail shoes for thru hiking. Taking some like these for the Camino. Did not keep these because my husband surprised me by purchasing a pair elsewhere. ??

I wore a size 11 shoe when I was 12 and since no shoes were made in that size for girls in my day my toes and feet took a beating. These shoes are the most wonderful things I have ever put on my feet. They are super comfortable with a wide toe box. I will buy these shoes as long as they are available.

I’ve been hunting shoes for my Camino walk and these are the winners! I put them on and walked 15 miles with no issues and haven’t had any since. These shoes are super comfy and I love the wider toe box.

I love Altras shoes. Granted, I like some styles better than others. Its not the kind of shoe one would consider svelte. But...no foot pain, the drop helps me actually "grip" which I need to do with getting older knees, and the wide toe box, the wide toe box is amazingly comfortable. No more suffocated toes. And I can walk miles in these things. The only complaint I have is that the inside heel wears out rather quickly. I solved that by ordering heel grips from Amazon. But, it would be nice if that area was as durable as everything else. As always, Zappos rises above in terms of customer service.

Love these! wish the bottom sole had a bit more cushion but overall not bad. I have Plantar Fasciitus and it helps with that. I use it just for casual wear and not for hiking.

My star rating seems quirky, which is how the fit of these shoes seems to me. I actually had to wear them a couple times to determine what was wrong with them. My feet seemed to swim around in them, even though they are the same size as my previous pair of Altra Lone Peak 4. The toe box had too much room, even though the length was fine. The upper material seemed not as sturdy as my previous pair. I even measured the width to see if it was the same. First time measuring, it wasn't; second time a week or so later, it was. The shoes confound me. Now I'm anxious about trying another pair of the same style. I wear size 12B so it is difficult to find shoes that work for my taste as well as size. My previous pair fit excellently. I don't understand why these would fit differently.

Love, love, love these shoes! I normally have to find a wide shoe or shop in the men's section, but these shoes work great for me: plenty of room in the front of my foot, and my heel stays in place. Love the cushioning too--so comfortable!

I honestly cannot rave enough about these shoes!! I have bunions that cause pain with any long distance hiking. We were planning a rim to rim hike (23.9 miles) at the Grand Canyon and I was very worried about how my feet would hold up. The Altra Lone Peak 4 were the answer!! They were so comfortable! While everyone else in my group complained about how their feet hurt on the hike, I never felt a thing. It is just unbelievable to me that I had no foot pain during or after hiking that distance. I'm so thankful that I found these!

Best hiking shoe ever. I'm training for the Make a Wish Trailblaze Challenge and was suffering from blisters from my hiking boots. My son recommended Altra as he has a pair of their running shoes and loves them. Long story short - these trail runners are amazing! Light, supportive and no blisters! WooHoo!

These shoes are great right out of the box! I am used to wearing negative heel shoes, sadly, they are not available anymore. I am very pleased to find these shoes. Now I hope altra will make winter boots! I recommend these shoes.

These look super cute when standing still, but there's a big crease / wrinkle / bulge at the toe when walking - looks cheap. These shoes feel wider than other Altras.

Perfect for comfort with a stress fracture of the sesamoid bone. Roomy enough to fit an orthotic to help with comfort and healing and I love the zero gravity feel as it takes pressure off of the ball of the foot. I will continue with these shoes long after the bones have healed. Love them!

I was looking for a good hiking/walking shoe that would be lightweight and good for travel. I read some high praise reviews and though I'd never had Altra shoes or zero drop shoes, I figured I could give them a shot and see what I think. These are SO comfortable! I have been wearing them for three solid days as we've done major house cleaning, including shampooing carpets. I've been up and down stepstools and on my feet and walking around the house and going from knees to standing. I've left them on when we've taken our dog for walks. I normally wear Ugg Coquette slippers around the house (hate to be barefoot) but I haven't felt compelled to kick these off early and slip those on. I am so pleased to find comfy and not completely ugly shoes with a wide toe box that means your toes don't get squished even if you are on your feet alot and maybe swelling.

The shoe brand should be called "Ultra" as it is ultra comfortable and ultra creatively/uniquely designed. It IS shaped for a woman's foot meaning it is narrow in the heel but gets wider where you need it (especially if you have a corn or rubbing issue on the outside of your foot. Very pleased with the shoe and would recommend trying it if you are looking for a respectable toe box in a non- orthopedic / non- therapeutic looking shoe.

I love Altras. After a long walk, no pain. The wide toe box is incredibly comfortable. No more suffocated feet. The only problem is that the inside of the heel frays and the rest of the shoe remains just fine. I solved that by ordering a heel slip protector to insert.

The shoe is perfect for my feet. With a narrow heal and wider toe box it is easy to adjust to my feet. And talk about cushion! They are like walking on clouds. My inserts work great. Didn’t need to break them in at all. Couldn’t be happier

I’m an Altra fan and have worn them for years. My previous lone peaks required sizing up 1/2 size but these were my true size. It’s annoying when I have to send them back but this is why I buy from Zappos since it’s so easy!

This is my 5th pair of low cut Lone Peaks. I did not really need another pair but I purchased the waterproof Lone Peak model and noticed these were available in (mostly) solid black so I got them as well. I prefer black shoes as I wear them for traveling in Europe and want them to look like regular shoes while keeping my feet in good shape for 6-10 mile walking days. There is some neon green trim that is easily stealth'd out with a black sharpie altho the neon isn't as bad in person as it looks on the online picture. I found the same sizing with these as I mentioned in my review of the Lone Peak RSM's. They've changed the last a bit and I no longer need to size up. Of course, I had ordered my regular Altra size so had to immediately order the smaller size to compare and chose to keep the smaller size. I wore these right out of the box for a 4 mile walk and they are supremely comfortable. Since the original wearing I've probably logged 20 miles in them mostly on paved trails. They have just the right amount of cushioning for me and a more comfortable collar and heel tab than the Lone Peak 3's. I wear them with Correct Toes toe spacers and Costco wool socks. The forefoot width is excellent which is what I look for in these shoes. They may feel too wide if you are not used to a natural toe splay. The sole is fairly grippy altho I've not tried anything more than light off pavement hikes with them. If you are not used to a Zero Drop platform, you should use the information in the box on how to get your feet accustomed to it. In these as in the Lone Peak RSM's part of the tongue is sewn down so if you use an alternate lacing pattern to give yourself more space across the arch these may not work for you. They are comfortable to me with a medium high arch. Thank you Altra for providing a mostly solid black shoe. I wish you'd offer a black choice every model year. Thank you Zappos for the free shipping and free returns. It encourages me to buy from you so I can try different sizes knowing the returns are easy.
