We have made two carafes of coffee with this machine. So far it is terrible. The coffee is weak and sour tasting, with no complexity at all. This is with the intensity set on bold and using the same beans we have been using for years in our former grinder/maker, a Capresso. It doesn't seem to be possible to trick the machine into thinking it has more water in it than it does in order to get an extra strong brew. I feel stupid for having bought it.

Great tasting coffee. Simple to use. Very clean. I was skeptical that this would produce better coffee than the up-market coffee maker we were replacing, but it does everything it claims. This is the best-tasting coffee I've ever had from a home machine.

After having owned cuisinart coffee makers for years we got tired of the pot leaking or not pouring right so we switched to the Breville. Love that it pours beautifully without spillage, coffee stays hotter longer and its attractive to keep out on counter. Worth every penny!

We were looking for a unit with a burr grinder but had found that most of them make a horrible cup of coffee. This unit is fantastic and brews coffee that is as good if not better than one you would buy at Caribou/Starbucks. It is a little big, but you'll get over that as soon as you've tasted the coffee. Easy to use. You can choose how strong the cup, single cup brew, the size of the single cup - up to 16 oz! or entire pot that stays hot for over three hours. We are nothing short of in awe of this Breville!

Great coffee, simple operation, easy clean. Options for strength and size are a bonus. Carafe helps keep coffee hot and built in grinder. All in all an awesome machine.

We purchased our Breville 600XL about a month ago,and all our comments are very favorable. (This machine replaced a Cuisinart coffee grinder and maker.) The Breville looks great on our counter top. The grinding noise is reasonably loud, but not as bad as the Cuisinart. It is easy to operate. The instructions are clear and easy to follow, with virtually no learning curve. Most importantly, it consistently makes flavorful, hot coffee. The boldness of the coffee is easily adjusted, and the read-outs on the machine are user friendly. This product is a huge improvement over the Cuisinart. We give it five stars in every category!

This is an excellent coffeemaker. It is well made and flexible enough to make coffee servings of all sizes from a small cup to 12 cups. The quality of coffee is very good and cleaning is relatively easy. I would certainly recommend the Breville.

I read a lot of reviews on other websites and agree with many of them. This machine is big, but it does so much though. I have used a Keurig machine for quite a few years. Love the convenience, but the k-cups are expensive and not a lot to choose from. Tried the k-cup filters and the coffee was just weak. Decided I needed a "real" coffee maker. This is the real deal. Love the ability to use either the carafe or single cup and I can choose the size of the single cup. best thing I love about this machine...it makes a really good cup of coffee!

I have owned several grind and brew makers including Cuisinart and Melitta. The Breville is by far the best one of the bunch. It is solidly built, easy to use, and most importantly, makes an outstanding cup of coffee. For those people who say that the grinder is too loud, I have to disagree. It is far quieter than the Melitta (which, by the way, uses an inferior blade grinder). My wife bought this for me for Christmas and quite frankly, I was a little upset that she spent this kind of money on it. But, I decided to at least try it and figured that if I didn't like it, I would just take it back. But, after playing with the strength settings (I like my coffee strong), I was pleasantly surprised to see that this maker does the job quite well. In fact, even at the lower settings, the coffee is plenty strong, especially if using a darker roast. Also, I used a thermometer to check the output temp of the coffee and found it to be within the perfect temp range of 200-205 degrees coming out. I had never owned a thermal carafe before and was skeptical because I like to make a full pot and drink it throughout the morning/day. Preheating the carafe is recommended and not a big deal for me. Just put some hot tap water in the carafe for 30 seconds to a minute or so before you use it and then dump it out. If you are setting the programmer to make coffee in the morning while you sleep, of course you can't do this...but for me, I enjoy my coffee hot and have no problem just doing it when I get up in the morning myself. Again, not a big deal for me. By preheating, my coffee stays plenty hot for 6-8 hours easily. Still warm (not hot) even after 10 hours. Clean up is easy (much easier than the other brands) and I use paper filters (brown) instead of the included gold filter to make clean up even easier. The bottom line is that I absolutely love this coffee maker and it is absolutely the best one I've ever owned.
