Love the aubergine/purple color. Had to order a full size smaller. Be sure to wear socks or knee highs so your feet don't get stuck inside. My large calves just fit. No room to tuck in pants, but at least my feet will be dry!
Love my Hunters -
When my original order for Hunter boots did not work out (my calf is shorter than I thought), I was hoping there would be an alternative. I found this shorter version and they are fun, fun, fun! These actually fit me better not just in height, but they hug my leg for a perfect fit.
Love my new Hunter Wellies. I opted for the short since I had heard reviews regarding the calf area being tight on the originals. The shorts fit my calves and pants perfectly. I ordered a size smaller than my usual (I wear size 10, but ordered size 9) based on other reviews. I was also very happy with this decision. I got the purple ones and think they look good with all colors (black pants, brown pants and denim). These have been great in Chicago's rainy spring weather.
Comfortable, practical, springtime boot -
I got these mainly because I walk and bus to work and in the spring/fall I've trashed some good shoes on rainy days. So I decided it was time to get some comfortable rain boots and these seemed like they would fit the bill. Perhaps they're not as stylish as some others that have cute patterns, but these are definitely more comfortable. I read other reviews stating that these run large, so I ordered down in size and am glad I did. Maybe they're made for wearing really thick socks as they do not have any sort of warm lining (as in, they're great for warm weather, not suitable for winter wear). But I'm wearing them we trouser socks, so I'm glad I ordered down. The arch support is pretty good, though I might just get a pair of drug store inserts to add a little bit more. These are exactly what I was going for: practical, completely waterproof, and comfortable to walk in.
Perfect boot for rainy days. Previously I tried the taller Hunter boots, but they felt too tall and therefore not so comfortable. I usually wear a 7.5 but ordered a 7 and they fit just fine. The only issue I've had is they painfully rubbed the back of my calves when I didn't wear long socks. They are fine with long socks or when tucking pants into the boot. I would recommend these boots. They are comfortable, fashionable and practical.
Wellingtons in review -
I’m very pleased with the fast processing, packaging, and product. My only real disappointment was that my "British" boots were Chinese made. I try to avoid Chinese made items whenever possible to support American- or British-made goods. However, I've always wanted a pair of Hunter boots so I'm ignoring the Chinese part. I still think it's a shame though.
The fit was a little big for my size 8 wide foot, but I think a smaller size would be too tight. I'm hoping a lot of sock will get rid of any sliding. Just got to use them outside today in the rain. Felt great and as an English friend of my told me, "They're posh!"
So these boots work exactly as indicated. They keep the rain out and keep my feet warm. They're comfortable and stylish. However, I was a bit disappointed that the shiny finish doesn't last through one wear or out of the box even.
The first pair I purchased came all scuffed up and discolored so I exchanged them for a second pair, which Zappos did with no issues. The second pair came and they looked beautiful.
I wore them once in the rain and the shiny finish disappeared and looked like the first pair I received. In the future, if I purchase another pair of Hunters I'll be getting the matte version. I'm going to invest in the shine restorer to see if that makes them look like new.
Overall, these boots are great. I know they're rain boots and meant to take a beating and the manufacturing quality ensures they'll be able to. However, buy them for the utility and not their beautiful appearance if you intend on using them when it rains.
I think these are great, practical rain boots. I have wider, athletic calves and they fit perfectly. My only complaint is that the smack you calf when you walk & make a noise, which is kind of annoying, but not a deal breaker. I'd still recommend them!
I don't agree with Hunter's sizing. Combining the U.S. size 9/10 into one boot (41 European) doesn't work for those of us with the size 10 foot. I ended up with a 42 in this boot, and it's just barely big enough.
So, ladies, if you're a true size 10 or on the large end of size 10, get the size 42 boot. (Normally I wear a size 41 European.)
Also, men's feet and women's feet are shaped differently. Men's feet are normally wider. As a result, my boots slip in the heel if I don't wear heavy socks.
I'm keeping the boots because they do fit and they work perfectly for what I want them for. But the sizing needs to be tweaked and improved.
Based on customer reviews, I ordered the Hunter Original Short Gloss. (I am 5'4", 120 pounds, athletic build). These boots fit beautifully -- still had ample room for tights/thick socks and for tucking in my bootleg jeans. Ordered the UK38/US7 as I typically wear a size 7.5 in most boots. However, was quite disappointed in the height of this boot as they were less than 9.5" from bottom of the heel to top! Due to the unflattering mid-shin boot height, I opted to exchange for the Hunter Original Gloss. Fortunately, the Zappos team make returning a snap!
After reading the reviews, I purchased the glossy short boot. I expected these boots to be super glossy; however, they were not at all. They were very matte and I wonder what the original (non glossy) boots look like. I first saw them and tried them on at a department store, and saw that the originals had all this white film on them. The lady said that that's how they come in and they have to wipe them down. I'm glad that the glossy ones that I ordered did not come with any film. I originally ordered my regular size and it was way too big. I exchanged them for a size smaller and they fit better. The only problem that I have is getting my feet into the narrow part of the boot. Once the foot was inside, it was nice and comfortable. Trying to take off the boot is another problem...very hard to do!
So cute! My dear husband bought me these and a pair of BOGS for Christmas. (In two different sizes for me to pick which I wanted). I think I'm keeping both. The height is mid calf and I keep getting comments on how cute the buckle is. With my pants tucked in, sometimes they press on a seam and it bothers, but since they don't come half sizes, this is my bare minimum size. I just twist the seam a little and it's better. I wear them when it even looks cloudy as I love them!
Adorable. Couldn\x5c't wait for it to rain so I could wear these! The calf opening is nice and wide, and they come off without too much of a struggle. Most importantly, of course, they keep my feet dry in the rain! No need to avoid the puddles!
I bought the shorter version because I'm 5'3" and everyone was saying the high boot was too high; I'm happy with the shorter ones and got compliments the first day I wore them. I used them to walk to and from work with my work shoes in my bag on a very rainy day and my feet were dry as a bone. I walked a mile each way very comfortably with no break-in needed.
Good comfort and support in the sole. However, felt the heel was a bit loose so kept slipping up and down and caused a blister. Probably need to wear with heavier socks. The shorter shaft was perfect for my large calves and still able to slip my pants in them. And of course easier to remove than the tall shaft boot.
The boots are great. I picked the shorter boot because the higher ones which I originally bought did not fit around my calf area, too tight. But I love the shorter ones, fit great, true to my size. The only downfall is that the ridge of the boot cut into my leg while walking and irritated my calf. I have to put a sock or lining in the boot for comfort.
If you have narrow feet and\x5c/or thin legs, then these boots are not for you. The colors are gorgeous and the boot is as chic as a rainboot gets, but the width was an issue for me and I will be returning these boots.
Functionally speaking, these boots are fantastic. But if you’re into the GLOSS finish vs. other Hunter boots, think twice. These boots "bloom" (as Hunter calls it) almost immediately after the first or second wear, and the finish on the boot looks like the regular Hunter boots in no time at all. I’ve tried wiping them with a damp cloth (as instructed by Hunter), but I have yet to find a way to restore the shine that drew me to these boots in the first place.
I'm 5'4” and thought the shorter boots would be better for my shorter legs. They are adorable! I with they were a little tighter in the calf but there's lots of room to tuck in your jeans, etc. I also wish I would have purchased a size smaller. And I'm sure I'll figure out how to slick them up again, but one boot remained shiny while the other has that typical Hunter-dullness to it after walking around in the rain for 3 days straight.
These boots are very comfortable to walk in. If you’re short in height, this boot is definitely recommended. It’s not as glossy as it looks, but it’s rather trendy & doesn’t look like ordinary rain boots.
These boots are very sturdy! I have a pair of Uggs and I'm usually wary of slipping and falling when it's wet outside; however, the bottom of these boots have a strong grip so I feel confident now. However, I don't know if anyone else has this problem, but my feet begin to stink after wearing these a while. I haven't gotten it yet, but I think there are welly socks that are sold. When I went to go look for welly socks, they only had it for the tall boots and not the short ones! Bummer!
