Get this: Angela Tafoya doesn’t set an alarm most mornings. “I usually wake up around 6:30 a.m. naturally,” says the editorial director of design site Lonny.com. That doesn’t mean that mornings in the San Francisco house where she lives with her family are zero chaos though. “They vary week by week,” she says, but she does try to stick to a Sunday game plan of grocery buying and lunch prepping, which gets them all in a calmer headspace and fights off the Sunday scaries.

Her daily closet grab varies, too, but she’s found a method that usually works: “I build my outfit around the feeling, ‘What vibe am I into today?’” Which for her, usually means a pair of jeans—“they are the wardrobe staple,” she says—and sneakers or a less-than-2-inch sensible heel.

And though she meditates and listens to Oprah’s Supersoul Conversations podcast on the reg, Angela believes that having work-life balance (she and husband, Eric, have a 3-year-old daughter, Tallie) is a myth, anyway: “There is no ‘balance.’ It changes day by day, hour by hour, and once we embrace this, we can finally lean into our decisions without guilt or shame.” So she gets herself together and out the door without feeling bad about forgetting the little things. But, there’s one thing she’ll never leave without doing: “I always give Tallie a kiss and a big squeeze!”

5-MINUTE WORK OUTFIT

Why is this outfit the go-to?

“When we’re rushed in the a.m., thinking about what I am going to wear can take extra time, so throwing on slip-on shoes with a jumpsuit helps me save time and still feel put together—or as put together as I can.”

Where would you wear it?

“Heading out the door to drop Tallie off at school, a day at the office, or running errands.”

Why does this particular outfit make you feel most like yourself?

“I never met a jumpsuit I didn’t like. I love that this one is comfortable and is very easy to tackle the day in.”

Do you have a morning beauty routine?

“I start by washing my face with True Botanicals cleanser then follow it with their radiance oil and sunscreen. If I have time I will wash and blow-dry my hair. I typically do a little concealer under the eyes, swipe on mascara, and I’m out.”

And if you’re especially short on time?

“Pretty much the same as above except dry shampoo is my BFF.”

Are you a breakfast eater?

“Yogurt and granola!”

On that note, if you were a breakfast cereal you’d be…

“The marshmallows in Lucky Charms.”

Throwing on a jumpsuit with slip-on shoes really helps me still feel put together—or as put together as I can!

What’s the first thing you do once you’re out the door?

“If I’m not dropping Tallie off at school, probably catching up on emails.”

What’s your go-to coffee order?

“Drip coffee with a little cream—nothing too over the top, just enough to caffeinate and start the day off right.”

If you were stuck in a long line for coffee who’s the dream person in front of you?

“Solange!”

BIGGEST DENIM DILEMMA: “Finding a pair that makes my butt look good!”

—Angela Tafoya

During your commute, we’d typically find you…

“Listening to podcasts. I rotate, but right now I start my weeks off with Oprah Supersoul Sundays for a nice meditation for the week ahead and end it with Pod Save America to get a recap on the week’s events.”

What items are in your purse at all times?

“Olio e Osso lip balm, phone, keys, wallet, and snacks for later.”

5-MINUTE NIGHT-OUT LOOK

Where she’d rock this outfit:

“Out on a date night, to a party, at an event, or out to dinner.”

Why it makes her feel good:

“I am a huge dress wearer! And I’ve been on a hunt for a longer denim jacket I can pair with dresses. I love the length of this one.”

More ways to wear:

Like a best friend to everything else in your closet, a classic denim jacket comes to the rescue basically any time you need it. It can tie together a casual look or dress down fancier pieces like a leather pant or pencil skirt.

5-MINUTE WEEKEND LOOK

Where she’d rock this outfit:

“It’s a quick look to pull together for weekend runs to the farmer’s market, brunch with pals, or the park with Tallie.”

Why it makes her feel good:

“Jeans paired with a crisp white top? Classic. And these are a little trendy but still work with my style.”

More ways to wear:

A good pair of relaxed jeans is the perfect counterpart to a fitted graphic tee, something romantic and frilly like eyelet, or your favorite cropped jacket.
