Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion @ Zappos

On May 25, 2020, George Floyd was murdered by police officer Derek Chauvin on the streets of Minneapolis. The tragedy sparked one of the largest racial justice movements in U.S. history and reignited focus on nationwide racial equity that should no longer be ignored. The Zappos Family continues to stand in solidarity with the Black community and condemn police brutality and racial injustice.

Over the past year, our Zappos Family has mourned, processed, and reflected on the changes we have committed to making and doing so with meaningful intention. Diversity and individuality have always been central to our core values, but after looking inward, we were and remain compelled to do more. We know that we need to be abundantly clear about the urgent need to dismantle systemic racism and protect and empower all marginalized groups within our communities.

We are in the process of developing and putting into action a multi-year plan that is centered on diversity and inclusion. We recognize that this work is never done, that it is an enduring process, and we uphold that responsibility with passion and determination. Zappos is committed to sustained action and providing transparent updates in the following areas:

OUR PEOPLE

• We reviewed our hiring, recruiting and progression practices and are in the process of refining our DEI strategy in collaboration with third-party consultants. We’ll be rolling out a three-year strategy with clear goals, commitments and tactics by the end of 2021 to provide greater transparency with employees around our progress, goals and path forward.

• We remain committed to empowering communities through ZapposOne (Zappos’ internal team focused on fostering an inclusive, diverse, and equitable environment for employees) by investing in, supporting, and amplifying voices of our Black Awareness and Empowerment Circle (BAAE), along with other Zappos Employee Resource Groups including AAPI (Asian American and Pacific Islanders), Zappos Adaptive, LGBT-Z, Women Empowered (WE) and Zappos Organization of Latinx (ZOL).

OUR LEADERS

• We have invested in DEI resources to provide employees – particularly leadership, continued education on unconscious bias, anti-racism and inclusive leadership.

OUR SITE

• We are continuing to prioritize supplier diversity by expanding our partnerships with Black-owned and minority-owned brands on Zappos.com. We have also committed to a broad representation of models and creative assets.

OUR SOCIAL IMPACT

• In addition to financial donations, we are building sustainable, long-term partnerships with advocacy organizations committed to fighting for racial and social equality including Color of Change, the Las Vegas chapter of the NAACP, and Asian Americans Advancing Justice.
