6 Winter Date Night Ideas To Do On The Cheap

The winter months can bring on panic when it comes to date ideas.

Although there’s nothing wrong with cuddling on the couch and watching those Hallmark movies with your significant other, it can get boring pretty fast.

Whether you're new to the dating scene, getting back into it, or are "an old married couple" who needs a new spot for a Saturday night hangout, try something new and winter friendly! Don't be afraid to use a few of these date ideas to stoke the flame in each other's hearts.

1. Snow bunnies

If you’re lucky enough to have the magic of snow, use it to your advantage. Carriage rides through the park; car rides hunting down all the holiday decorations; or just slow dancing in the snow are intimate moments of love. Quirky snowball fights, snow angels or building a snowman together can also be a lot of fun. The dates don't always have to be serious (or expensive, for that matter) to leave a lasting memory in your relationship.

2. Weekend getaway

It might take a little more planning, but a romantic getaway is just what winter date nights are made of. Many woodsy or mountain cabin resorts have some great discounts for staying the weekend. With a little bit of research, you can even find deals with an amazing and romantic candle-lit dinner included. Cozying up under a blanket and talking through the night with some hot chocolate is straight from those holiday romance movies. If you’re coordinated enough to ski, sled or snowboard, go for it! Some friendly competition down the slope to decide who pays for dinner and drinks is perfect.

3. Holiday festivities

'Tis the season for festivals! All the planning is already done with this one. Every town has something going on to celebrate the joyous holiday season. There are annual tree lighting ceremonies, school holiday theater programs, Christmas lights strewn throughout the parks or gardens, and even festivals for the whole town to come together. There’s plenty of magical twinkles and romance going on outside for you and your significant other to enjoy.

4. Volunteer for cheer

The holiday season can be blissful, but also challenging for those in need. Take some time to volunteer this winter. Serve hot dinners to the homeless, play with the animals in shelters, donate time and toys to charities or hand out blankets and meals to families that can't afford to celebrate this year. Not only will you get to spend time with your love, but you'll also warm the hearts of others you’ve helped. There is never a shortage of need, just look around.

5. Paint the night away

How does an evening of canvas painting and a few glasses of wine sound? Sounds great! These businesses are popping up everywhere. You can look and find a great holiday or winter painting that you'd like to recreate and go for it! They provide all the supplies you need, and you get a free drink to go with your finished masterpiece. If you can't find a place near you that offers paint nights, go to your local craft store and grab some quick supplies. Discover a winter photo online that you like and paint away in your living room.

6. Ice skating

Having snow comes in handy again, but even here in Las Vegas skating is a great date night. Our grandiose hotels often create their very own makeshift skating rinks. They can tend to be a bit crowded as the holidays grow nearer, but it's such a fun time. Rent some skates for you and your only and glide hand in hand. If your town has a hockey rink, make sure to look for free skate nights for some indoor fun. It'll be a little warmer for you, so a mid-weight jacket should suffice. Be careful, though. While it's an “Aaaawww!” moment on TV, slipping on the ice can hurt a bit.

It might not feel perfect at the time, but trust me when I say your significant other is going to love any effort you put into making winter date nights special. It's time to enjoy our families and loved ones this time of year. Stroll through the park, watch those sappy holiday movies, cuddle by the fire and drink as much hot chocolate as you can.

Winter can bring something amazing to your winter dates. There's magic happening everywhere. Bundle up, grab your cutie and head out to your winter wonder dream date!
