Rainy Day Looks To Brighten Your Style

I’ve been dealing with a recent run of insomnia, and on the advice of a friend I’ve downloaded a relaxation app to help me go to sleep. This is a pretty cool app, where I can combine hundreds of sounds together to get the perfect mix that’ll help me doze off. My current nighttime blend is thunder, rain, rain on the roof, urban rain, rainstorm, thunderstorm and rain on a tent — yes, I know that’s a lot of rain sounds. This app actually has about 24 different variations of rainstorms, and it’s one of the reasons I love it.

Spring downpours are one of the best things about the season. There’s just something about the magical sounds of droplets falling from the heavens to earth, and knowing that water was once part of what the dinosaurs drank and swam in, what rolled off the pyramids at Giza and what fell on the fields where men fought and died for our freedom.

While many people see rain as a hassle because of the traffic snarls and frizzy hair it can cause, I like to think of it as Mother Nature’s way of wiping the slate clean and starting things fresh and new. Rain in the air, or the clean smell of wet leaves and dirt after a passing shower, is also the unofficial perfume of the season, and generally helps ease the misery of allergies. And then there’s the added bonus of rain where adults are given default permissions to act like kids again. After all, what’s more tempting than puddle jumping muddy streets and sidewalks after the rain?

This week, I’m bringing you a gathering of pieces for looking fabulous while you embrace the rain, celebrate spring and cleanse the soul!

Technical Attire

Good old-fashioned raincoats are a must if you have to be out and about rain or shine; Columbia gives you great options to keep you dry, whether you’re on the sidelines at a soccer game or out enjoying a hike and the skies open up — all with a great splash of color!

Wrapped Up

Is there a slight chill in the air, or do you need to look a little more polished? Great umbrellas paired with a spring-weight jacket with a little bit of water resistance are your best bets. Remember, that same umbrella can help you stay poolside cool on sunny days as well!

Puddle Jumping

Princess Diana was often pictured in her Hunter Classics; these new Hunter styles accommodate an athletic calf, are adjustable and will keep your toes dry, all of which are important when jumping in puddles with your favorite little (or full-grown!) people.

Remember, life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass — it's about learning to dance in the rain. If you're dancing or signing in the rain in any of the styles show here, tag us in your selfies or pics with #zapposWRR. We'd love to see your style!
