Frye

Frye Logo
The Frye Company was founded in 1863 by John A. Frye, a shoemaker from England. Frye products have a long and illustrious history. Frye® boots were worn by soldiers for both sides of America’s Civil War, soldiers in the Spanish-America war, and for Teddy Roosevelt and his Rough Riders. Many New England families during the mid and late 1800’s wore Frye boots as they pioneered across the country to the West.

Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.

In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.

The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

I really like the shoes, BUT i did not realize they had rubber on the bottom of the sole. My whole purpose of buying them was to wear them dancing.

I haven't worn them much, only around the house. I'm hoping they don't stretch out to much. Wondering if I should order the Size 8. Other than that concern they are very nice shoes even if they are a bit pricey.

These fit so well, I purchased them in all colors. Well made, supportive around ankles, lovely design! Can be worn dressy or casual. Purchased my usual size and it fits well.

I am disappointed in this shoe. I was trying to reorder a Chukka that apparently is no longer carried. So I opted for this Chukka. The leather is soft to the point of not carrying any sort of a shine for more than a few days. The shoe starts to loose its black color and is replaced by a whitish grey color.

Runs small and tight, 90% of my shoes are 8.5 and I need a 9 for this shoe. It’s more firm and less forgiving, had a tough time getting my foot in and it was uncomfortable on my slightly wide foot. But really cute and the exact style I’ve been looking for, hoping the 9 fits me well and is more comfortable!

The boots are relatively easy to slip on and off. However, there is absolutely no tread on the sole of the shoe. It’s smooth leather. I was slipping and sliding just testing these on my hardwood floors. I can’t imagine trying to walk in these in wet or icy conditions. Sending them back!

These are well-built shoes, and were very stiff at first. I like the blue, but the toe caps and heels are a darker, solid blue, which I didn't particularly like. Took some Scotch Brite to them, and now they're fine.

I like these. The color is exactly as on the screen (taupe). They felt true to size; I often run between 7-7.5 so, based on reviews, I ordered 7.5. It feels like there is plenty of room but my foot is not falling out so I will stick with this size. No real arch or foot support yet that feels acceptable in this shoe, likely since I see it not as a heavy walking shoe, just a “throw it on and go” shoe. I have a long vamp and, my guess from the other reviews, my foot is a good shape for this shoe. Those with a short vamp may have trouble getting the pointy toe configuration to work. I think it’s why my foot stays in despite the shoe feeling roomy. I may return for the cognac color but other than that, these are keepers for their purpose. They do resemble slip-on sneakers but also have the look of a flat, so a little tiny bit more refined than a slip-on sneaker.

These shoes are super cute and soft, but have to go back. This is the second time for this shoe. The first one was enormous on my feet. I returned and ordered a half size smaller and those were way small. I give up.

Very nice quality. The straps do not adjust so they ran too long on me which made it awkward to carry. I had to return. And the chain straps I thought were just a nuisance. Not comfortable. But beautiful leather.

I really wanted to keep these since I love the look. Unfortunately, they’re a bit narrow. I have an average sized foot (size 8, medium width) and the sizing in the 8 felt off. Too much room in the heel but pinched at the ball of my foot. Sadly returning these.

I've been hunting for some ivory/white ankle boots for a couple of months now, and after staring longingly at these babies for two weeks (full price was a bit too rich for my blood), I snapped them up on a 30% off sale. I took my usual size 9.5, and they start off snug and a bit narrow when you first put them on with a sock, but after a bit of breaking in, no more than a day, they stretch out and feel great. They're a comfortable height and the pointed toe is shaped at the right place to not pinch your toes. As for the cutouts, they're just the thing to make these more warm-weather appropriate, and I find they are just covered up enough by the straps that I don't mind the little peek of color when I wear an ankle sock. If it's a splurge for you, wait until it's on sale and less of a splurge, but trust me, it's worth it for the quality leather and craftsmanship. I'd rather pay $200 for one solid pair that will last a few years instead of two $100 pairs that will break apart after a season.

Gorgeous, classic, well made sandals. They do run a half size small I would say. I am normally a 7.5 and took an 8 in these. These are sandals that will last for years if taken care of. Simple and go with everything. The back strap has stretch so you don't need to unbuckle and gives a little more security than a slide.

Ok so 1st I ordered my true size 6, felt like a 6.5, my heel didn’t go all the way to the back of the shoe. Another reviewer also mentioned the same issue. Wasn’t sure I wanted to order again because the price tag was high for an import, but decided to try the 5.5, it fit like a 6. Decided to keep it because the color, style is so versatile for jeans, leggings, dress shorts, skirt or dress. So I felt it was a worthwhile purchase that will pay for itself.

I waited quite awhile for these boots as the size 9 in black sell out quickly. I have two other pair of Sabrina double buckle, one in tan(comfortable right out if the box) and one in brown-- this pair was too tight out of the box but only took several days to break in. The black pair, which I just recieved, were so small they actually hurt my entire foot. Sending them back was a no brainer but still a boot heartbreaker! My Sabrina lace ups are super comfortable so I am going to get a pair of those in black. Frye boots and shoes are my absolute favorite brand.

Best ballet flats I have ever owned. They fit like a glove. They do not rub any part of my foot. I have worn them all day long walking around campus and I feel nothing but comfort. I have owned several expensive flats in the past and after walking a while they all rub/bother my foot in one area or another, but not this flat. I didn't think it was possible. I'm buying another pair today and that's what made me want to write this review. I have the snake print (which I love). I'm purchasing the metallic today and I can't wait until they arrive.

These are so cute and I wish they worked for me, but they are obviously not for people with wide feet. I even tried a half size up and they were still too small (plus narrow, which sizing up can't help). If you have small feet, though, they would probably work!

These boots are beautiful and the leather is soft. However, I could not zip them up! I have slender ankles and calfs and I have never had this issue with boots in the past. Perhaps the zippers are sewn incorrectly? It too bad... I bet they would have looked great.
